I love the title of your article! I feel the same thing on some parts and differently on others.
It seems to me that the point of the article is that it's ok to have different opinions, likes and dislikes of dramas. There's no right or wrong.
-- some tropes I don't like much and some I do, but I think what's really important is - does the drama tell a story, is there really a plot, and will you remember the drama after you finish it?

this actor jars me because he is so expressionless, why. all his leading ladies are so expressive and yet all…
that's Lakorns for you. There's some Lakorns where the actor is just horrible, but keeps getting shows. There's one Lakorn I saw, the female lead hardly ever said a word, mostly went through the drama with big eyes and mouth hanging open.
Then there's actors like Ken and Anne, who amaze you.

I love this drama but YES, eventually I had to press "mute" when Yang Mi says "Su Su".
I actually wanted someone to kill her for me lol.
Loved everything else, these are all good actors who've gone on to greater roles.
The CGI and production value not that great, but the story and acting were great.

I think I will write one about plot structure and whatnot, but it's a little while off. A few other articles will…
yes! dramas that tell a story don't need lots of fakery and plot devices like amnesia, twins, etc. These are dramas you never forget, too.

Plot or maybe call it telling a story. Like Miss Hammurabi. Like "Save Me".
Where it starts one place and you go on a journey with the characters.

good article, character development. Also another thing - does the drama actually tell a story or is it just a mash up of tropes and cliches?

Some kdramas, C and T-dramas rely mostly on plot devices and without them would not have any story at all. Devices like amnesia, twins, birth secrets, arranged marriages, tropes like mean rich guy made nice by poor girl, the Truck of Doom, etc,.

So that's why I like the drama Miss Hammurabi, it tells a story. I like a drama that tells a story.

And it’s non-stop. Like, she doesn’t take a break from being righteous about ERRYTHING. And how is it possible…
@kimmyyyyy Very astute observation, thanks, I learned something. :)

Title Miss Hammurabi Spoiler
does it matter what she's wearing?
In this drama, I think it does. There's different ways that attire has been used.
- like in the "mansplaining" episode. (super funny by the way).
- if you think about it, she's the only person in the drama who keeps herself covered up like this, and we know she was abused by her piano teacher (we just don't know the extent). She wasn't able to defend herself then, she was not outspoken then like she is today.
- the discussion about Go Ah Ra's clothing isn't to demean her. I like the lead actress.
- I don't think her attire is due to "wardrobe" making sloppy decisions, it seems deliberate.
The drama is still airing (at least on DF) so we don't have an answer yet on why she's always so heavily dressed.

I am not sure about Chinese dramas, but j dramas are all volunteer based subbing.
it varies. I would pay for a subbed dvd of Princess Jieyou but it isn't available. I've learned to not watch any Chinese dramas until I am sure that the entire series has been subbed. Less disappointment that way.
I love Chinese dramas, not enough are subbed. Maybe I should try some jdramas.
Thanks for reply!

Since when is huffing glue a serious epidemic? I haven't laughed like that in a while. Glue was being treated…
Benedit - I think your question is legitimate and should have been answered in just a factual way, but instead you were attacked.
1st, remember that this drama is based on a real life judge. From another blog read this:
"1. [+1625, -16] Some are saying today's glue sniffing story line is forced but it's a story that's based on a true story and that's why when the drama ended, the names of the judges that really helped that case came out
↪ [+122, -2] If you search up "Judge Shim Jae Wan glue" then it comes out. He visited glue factories in real life too and campaigned for them to stop selling it"

https://ddoboja.blogspot.com/2018/07/spoilersmiss-hammurabi-roundup-episode.html

Finally, I sympathize with you - MDL is supposed to be a place where people can share their love of dramas, post comments and bring up issues. Most of the time that happens, but there are some people who for whatever reason respond harshly.
They forget basic human decency and just attack attack.

In my younger years, in the US, I worked with young people and saw that glue sniffing was what some kids/teens used to get high with - because it was cheap and accessible.

Now in my old age I actually had a neighbor who huffed the gas from the compressed air duster cans. And his family is well off. He almost lost his eye sight.

This is why in the US, it is illegal for a shopkeeper, or anyone else, to sell any substance that will, or its fumes if inhaled will, cause intoxication to a person under the age of eighteen.

Title Miss Hammurabi Spoiler
why is go ah ra wearing a raincoat in every scene? whether indoors or outdoors? she is annoying me big time. also…
Everything in the drama is deliberate and has meaning. Could her "over-dressing" be a symptom related to being abused by her piano teacher when she was a young girl? Over dressing as a protection?

Yet we know she can dress in a short skirt, remember in the episode where she dresses in various clothing including a short skirt and a burka to make a point to her senior judge about women's dress inciting abuse?

So I've been wondering all along too about this. It's such an obvious thing that I believe it has meaning that will come out before the end.

I marked as a spoiler for people who haven't watched yet, because I didn't want to ruin the ep about mansplaining on the subway plus burka dressing.

Unsubbed dramas that desperately need to be subbed.
Prime example: Chinese drama Princess Jieyou.
That drama was subbed up to ep 18 on youtube then nothing. The drama was getting at least 100,000 views per ep on youtube! How can we get dramas subbed?

Cdramas are the worst at doing this. No surprise that a Chinese individual was involved in this. Cdramas tend…
true. I think that is because usually Cdramas are dubbed in Mandarin, but if a drama airs in US or Korea, it isn't dubbed.

Title About Time
Ikr, like when you watch a CN drama with an average of 50 eps it seems draggy, even a Korean 16-20 ep drama is…
exactly. The lets break up thing - you hit the nail on the head. It makes the drama stretch out, become annoying and then boring. Thank you for putting that into words
