I don’t find him just slightly unpleasant but actually very unpleasant. I only felt slightly uncomfortable watching the show in general because I kept having to see him, even when I was trying to skip his parts.
I can seriously rant on for ages on why I find him very unpleasant. Here we go...
So, Lee Seung Gi lost a lot of my respect when he stood by his in-laws despite everything. His father-in-law’s scam was serious, involving tens of billions of won and many people getting hurt. Instead of owning up or distancing himself early, Lee Seung Gi defended them, which really shows where his priorities are. That “wholesome” image he had is basically destroyed because of this.
What makes him look even worse is how late he apologised and said he’d cut ties. He only did that after his father-in-law literally got arrested again and people got angry. It felt like damage control rather than genuine responsibility. If it wasn’t for all the public pressure, I bet he’d still be defending them.
I saw that a lot of people have been calling him out for this from the start. He used to be seen as a good guy who stood up against his agency and gave to charity. But then he married into a family of criminals involved in huge financial crimes and stayed silent for so long. And he still follows some of them on social media, so his “cutting ties” was basically a complete lie, I felt that he’s just trying to look good. It’s disgusting to see someone pretend to be decent only when it suits them, but turn a blind eye the moment things get real.
I feel really bad for the victims of the scam. Imagine people who worked their whole lives, saving every penny to invest, only to lose everything because of this scheme. Some probably had to sell their homes or take out huge loans to try and cover their losses. Others might have lost their retirement funds or their children’s education money, just imagine this...
Sure, Seung Gi might not have been directly involved in the scams. But the problem is he married into that family knowing their shady past, yet stayed quiet and didn’t distance himself from his in-laws when it mattered. “A cop doing things without thinking”? listen, he’s not thinking clearly because he’s suffering from punch-drunk syndrome and untreated trauma. On top of that, there’s a criminal who killed one of his family members, left another in a coma, and now controls half the city. He’s not acting logically, he’s driven by anger, grief, and pure survival instinct. This isn’t stupidity; it’s what happens when someone has been through hell and didn’t come out unscathed.
“He’s more focused on love”? I dont think this is true. Yeah, there’s romance, but that’s what keeps him going when everything else is falling apart. It’s not some soft distraction, it’s the fire that drives him to fight harder and protect the people he cares about. If you think love makes him weak, you don’t get his character at all.
“He wouldn’t survive a day in real life”? That’s true. In real life, he’d be in hospital, kicked out of the force, or worse. But this isn’t real life, it’s a revenge drama. Dong-joo is the kind of guy who drags himself through hell, bleeding and barely conscious, yet still fighting because no one else will. And you’re laughing at him? thats on you.
You can say he’s reckless, sure. But calling him dumb just proves you’ve completely missed what this character is about. He’s not meant to be a cool-headed strategist; he’s a walking tragedy, a man who’s breaking in real time, and the drama makes that crystal clear.
If you're criticising him for not playing it smart, that’s on you for expecting logic in a story about emotional implosion. So do us all a favour and stop calling complex trauma “dumb” just because it doesn’t come gift-wrapped in rational choices.
I really like this drama overall, and I’d highly recommend you giving it a watch. No, he’s not as dumb as people make him out to be. He throws himself into every situation with heart rather than calculation. It looks like he walks straight into traps but that’s less a sign of stupidity and more of eagerness to do the right thing without overthinking. Also a lot of his decisions come from emotional trauma, not a lack of intelligence. I think he’s blinded by revenge. He acts on impulse because he’s desperate to punish the person who destroyed a family member he dearly loved, and that kind of tunnel vision makes him reckless.
I believe anyone in his situation would act the same way. No one could think straight knowing that the person who ruined their life is not only free, but also controls an entire city’s government. It’s hard to stay rational when someone like that can get away with anything just because they have money and power.
Only two more episodes left. I really don’t see how this could end happily at this late stage. Dong-ju has suffered way too much irreversible damage by now. At this point, I’m 95% sure this is going to end as a full-on K-trauma. The preview for episode 15 shows it’ll probably be full of nonstop conflict as they still try to catch the villain. I just don’t see how Dong-ju is supposed to get better after everything, especially with only 2 episodes left.

After that, they held hands and shared that little running scene, which felt quite intimate. I don’t think her asking Sagye to join her agency had anything to do with asking him to date her, as they were already essentially back together. She genuinely wanted him to be the singer of the songs she had written, which had been mentioned in earlier episodes, and she has now made that official through the contract.
I think that her giving him her necklace as a collateral showed that she cares about him and trusts him deeply. It was something precious that her late mother had given her, so it carried real meaning.
Overall, I see this scene as them strengthening their relationship rather than just starting it.
