The Hidden Love production was only 25 episodes long and a much lighter story. He notices her in I believe episode 11 of 25 and they also get together at about the halfway point at episode 16. There is flirting and cute moments but still somewhat of a slow burn romance imo as there was a lot of build up to there actual relationship. The First Frost is more of a second chance at a beginning...friends to lovers....deep love. It deals with a lot of triggering topics. SA, parental death, abuse, neglect/abandonment...etc. There are a lot of light moments as well...but there is trauma that has to be overcome.
Novel had no direct interaction between the two. Even I didn't liked it given Sang Yan's protectiveness towards…
But he's still a man that she doesn't know. No matter how much he trusts his friend Sang Yan would never have another person in her space without first running it by her. Even more so a man SHE doesn't know....because that's what actually matters. Not his comfort with his friend, but her comfort in her home. I watch a lot of book to screen adaptations and can think of 3 different ways to have the same result without compromising basic characteristics of a main lead.
Someone please tell me honestly, is the screenplay slow? I'm already watching one slow drama and don’t want…
This is a slow burn romance so don't expect much development until about the halfway point. This one might not be for you right now. A shorter web drama might do the trick for you to have a nice balance. Or, maybe it's time to pull out an oldie but a goodie....aka one you've already watched so that you can skip the scenes that don't matter to you. This is what I sometimes do when in a drama funk.
(edit: just want to say this is not in an angry voice this is in a reassuring PSA voice in case anyone was like "I'm sorry he did what now?" after the now 2nd unannounced invite.) Okay, I'd like to state for the record that Sang Yan would NEVER and I repeat for those in the back NEVER invite someone over to their shared apartment with out FIRST running it by Wen Yi Fan. In the novel even when he was bringing his own little sister over he would double triple check that it was okay and tell her when. He would never, ever ever invite a man over that she doesn't know and let him shower in their home and walk around half dressed. This plot is literally just not a thing in the novel. I think production wanted a reason to have Duan Jia Xu around. She doesn't meet him until much much later. Like I honestly don't even remember them(DJX and WYF) interacting, as he was always working during this time period, and he would maybe visit during major holidays. Adding this is very against Sang Yan's character. The scenes are funny and lighthearted, but Sang Yan in this drama has seen her be chased down by a group of men...and then overheard and then beat them up...he would never bring another man into her personal space. I'm not really mad at production...but I just wish they would include a "hey is it okay if my friend stays over tonight?" and have them introduce themselves to each other over the phone through a video call in a previous scene so it would make more sense for her to be okay with it. They could have still kept the comedy of him using Sany Yan's shower and the funny scenes in episode 11 but maintained Sang Yan's character...aka protect Wen Yi Fan...feed Wen Yi Fan.
Haha 25.2.25 is very special numbers and romantic day for us Cupids.I really pray for a long time to get broadcast…
It is to my wallet. I've been meaning to get an iQiYi account for a while as a lot of the shows I watch are on the platform. I refuse to get MangoTV on principle alone...machine generated subs my 🍑 I will also be trying to ballance watching this one as well as The First Frost(I've read it's web novel & have been looking forward it it for years at this point.) Shows that I know I'm going to be active in the comment section I tend to want to let them have their own space(time).

I wish it was on another platform as well as iQiYi too. cause like I already have a wetv account, and youku account not to mention the long standing viki and netflix account. Seriously my viki account is older than my netflix account. I want to support this one through legal channels ya know what I mean... Why the end of the month...why....*cries in adult bills*
the main lead of first frost is the brother of the main lead of hidden love
different production so yes. think of Hidden Love Sang Yan as a what he is through the eyes of his little sister. The First Frost is how Wen Yi Fan not only sees him but actually how he is as a whole person. He has his own private world that he keeps from his family.
Am I the only one who was crying at the end of ep 10? 😭 Wen Yifan didn't feel worthy of anything, not even…
For those who haven't read the novel...Sang Yan is always worried about Wen YiFan getting enough food. She lost a lot of weight while they were separated & he feels it's his own personal mission to help her find that weight again. He sees that she was neglected & then neglected herself, and his love language is acts of service. Everyone probably already picked up on it, but he always makes sure she has access to food & reminds her to eat in one way or another.
Why is it so short with only 10 episodes?!? 😭😭 should have made at least 16 or 20 episodes.
honestly this was a perfect length for a show that lends toward multi season storytelling. Also, with how technical everything is production wise 10 episodes makes sure that the appropriate about of prep goes into each episode as well as post production work. The stunts alone, not including trying to film them takes weeks to learn. I would rather cast & crew remain safe & able to be creative without the budget/time constraints that a 16 episode show would put on production. better to have the budget of 16 episode & make 10 than the other way around...ya know what I mean jelly bean?
I've been looking forward to this one...but I'll have to delay my start time. Why iQiYi WHYYYYYYYY? You couldn't have waited like one more week...just ONE?
So far I don't like the fl family. Mainly the aunt. I hope she doesn't forgive them like in a lot of dramas.
Yi Fan goes through a lot of growth when dealing with them again and with Sang Yan by her side she feels the need to protect him from them, she becomes stronger with her self worth. Sang Yan can hold a grudge to his grave, aint no one getting forgiveness as long as he's breathing.
