An easy to watch, fun rom-com. I really enjoyed the first half of the drama while they were still at school and university. Personally I found some of the episodes in the second half of the drama (when they were working) to be a little draggy. Also, the writer's decision to have Kiran not tell Peem why she ghosted her for 7 years missed an opportunity for a very powerful reconciliation scene. Writers just seem so reluctant to write characters who are able to have an adult conversation. In terms of runtime, I think 13 hours was more time than was needed to tell this story. Tighter dialogue and cutting some of the padding scenes (and giving Pok less screentime) would have resulted in a better drama in my judgement. I thought the drama finished strongly, with the proposal scene (with all the people and the band), being one of the best I've seen in any drama. I was also satisfied with how Poon got put in his place. For fans of GL dramas, it is a must watch. For general viewers, if you like fluffy coming of age rom coms, you'll probably like this. My score: 8/10
An absolute gem. Brilliantly acted. Complex but engaging story. VERY thought provoking. Respected the audience's intelligence by not overexplaining every twist or subplot. About as close to perfect as I've seen in a modern Chinese drama. I'll be thinking about this drama for days - something I almost never do. Highly recommended: 9.5/10
This movie created much controversy in Korea when it was released in the year 2000 for the potentially illegal sexual exploitation of a minor for financial gain, including marketing of the "erotic" nature of this version of the well known Korean tale. Lee Hyo-jeong was only 16 years old at the time and still in her first year of high school when she filmed the full nudity and sex scenes. Cho Seung Woo was 19 at the time.
The explicit scenes were not in the original script (according to Cho Seung Woo), so the actors were unaware that nudity was required until filming began. Due to their ages, they were very shy about performing the scenes. Reportedly, director Im Kwon-taek gave the inexperienced actors the task of watching the R-rated film "Yellow Hair (presumably to learn how sex scenes should be performed) which had been banned from screening at the time due to its explicit content. It ended up taking two full days of filming to produce about 2 minutes of nude and sex scenes and both actors involved commented that it was extremely stressful for them. As far as I can tell, Lee Hyo-jeong never acted again
All actresses in this drama are super pretty, but I gotta say Chen Hao Lan is exceptionally pretty, I want to…
In my subjective opinion, most Chinese actresses are absurdly gorgeous. Even better looking than the Korean actresses, who are also all gorgeous. The other country with a lot of incredibly good looking actresses is Thailand.
Not a perfect drama, but still a very good one. It held my attention for the duration, but it lacked some of those real powerful moments than the best Chinese historical dramas have. The acting, sets, costumes, fight choreography were very good, but the autopsy models were pretty fake looking (but to be fair, that is probably a good thing). I think I preferred the crime solving subplots over the palace politics subplots, which I occassionally felt dragged a little bit, especially towards the end. But I was quite satisfied how they wrapped everything up. If you like Chinese historical dramas, or are a fan of any of the lead actors, then this drama is definitley worth your time. My score: 8.5/10
I've put together some detailed thoughts in a REVIEW above, including a plot summary that actually explains what this movie is about. The plot summary here on this page is incredibly vague. You're welcome.
Guys where to watch it? I watched 5 eps on youtube but where to watch other eps???
I tried repeatedly to sign up to iQIYI, but kept ending up at a screen with an endlessly spinning "waiting ..." graphic. I eventually gave up, concluding that they must not want my money. I then RELUCTANTLY went to kisskh to watch it.
I can tolerate anything else but the camera angle/framing; why does the camera director think it was a good idea…
I actually like that. It just adds as little bit of variation and makes me pay more attention to the scene. The trick is to not overuse these sorts of shots - but I don't think they are overused here. Having said all that, I appreciate that some people will find such camera angles annoying or distracting.
