There's a Chinese remake of One Spring Night. It's not quite as good as the Korean original, but its still very good and I really enjoyed it. It also changes up the story a bit.

15 episodes in, and I'm just finding it too slow for me. Nothing is really happening. It is certainly not a bad show, and for the right fan, it is probably a masterpiece (as the MDL score would suggest). I have so very many shows waiting for me to watch, it doesn't take much for me to drop a show these days if it isnt doing it for me. I can always come back to it at a later date if I want.

I didn't say he shouldn't show interest in her. I've already said in my comment above that he DID express his interest, and I haven't criticised him for doing that. The issue (which I thought I made clear above) was he was acting like she was his girlfriend BEFORE she was. This made me uncomfortable, as it seemed a little bit pushy for my liking. Clear communication and unambigious consent are things I want to see in dramas. I don't remember which episode it was, and I'm not going to go back and rewatch episodes just to provide you with an answer. I've only watched 10 episodes so far, and it was a few episodes ago, so if you are really interested in discovering what episode it was, then simply go back and rewatch some episodes yourself.

I wasn't suggesting she was unaware - quite obviously she was aware because he told her. But what had not happened was she hasn't yet accepted him. In a recent episode (I forget which) he refers to her as his "girlfriend", and she then says to that person, we're not a couple.

I'm keeping an open mind, but I'm also going to honestly express my opinion. And I'm sure this next opinion will be one you also disagree with, but I'm finding his silent staring at Yin Guo kind of creepy, and she also seems a little uneasy with it. Also, I found it a bit uncomfortable that Yi Yang started acting like Yin Guo was his girlfriend BEFORE she was. Again, I found that a bit creepy.

I look forward to seeing him show me some more of his acting range later in the drama. But I still think a skilled actor can play a very reserved, introverted character without being stone-faced. My general observation (admittedly on limited data) is that secondary male characters, and (almost) all female characters are generally better actors than the male leads. But I'll keep an open mind as I watch more Chinese dramas, and perhaps my opinion may change.

Only 8 episodes in and I am really enjoying this drama. I will say however that Leo Wu appears (so far at least) to have quite limited acting skills. I'm relatively new to Chinese dramas, but one thing I've noticed is that many of the male leads aren't very good actors. The female leads on the other hand, generally seem to be quite capable actors.

They've unfortunately cut out a LOT from the novel. To be fair, I think they had to do this to make the series less contraversial. In the novel, Anueng is still a minor (by Thai law) when she moves in with Nueng, who becomes her legal guardian ... and shortly after, her lover. A section of the later half of the novel deals with the issue of Nueng's "betrayal" (in the eyes of Anueng's family), by starting a romantic relationship with Anueng while also acting as her guardian. But because the drama aged Anueng 2 years (to make her a legal adult from the start), the whole problem with Nueng having a relationship with a minor disappears. Having said that, I'm sure in the last episode, there will be some push-back from Anueng's family to their relationship - it will just be for some different reason.

Far too many drama script writer seem to have very limited imaginations. They have a small handful of tropey plot devices that they use in almost every drama. Some of these are profoundly annoying - pointless love triangles, evil parents/grand parents, nobel idiocy just to name a few. They exist just to create contrived conflict to (painfully) force the plot forward. It is so refreshing when drama writers have the skill and imagination to write a high quality drama without having to resort to these way-over used, tired and frustrating tropes.

I can see how many viewers would love this show, and I did too at the start. But half way through episode 14, I realised that I just didn't care any more. I think historical/fantasy dramas just aren't my cup of tea.

I might be misinterpreting this, but I've just been rewatching episode 2, and I think the writer was being a little playful, paying homage to the original book. Anyone who has read the book knows that Anueng is into BDSM. If you watch this little bit of playful banter (see time-stamped link below) , it looks to me like Anueng is being flirty, emphasising getting a "scolding", implying she might enjoy it. I think Neung realises this, when she changes her word from "scold" (as in 'punish' or 'discipline') to "blame", and then she swallows nervously (timestamp 6:22). Then look at Anueng's reaction to this. And then notice how she says her Grandma will "scold" her (rather than "blame" her, and putting emphasis on the word "scold") if she goes home wearing Nueng's clothes. Anueng is being very flirty and making Nueng shy.
