Good that you're into discussions, ok with my observation saw the lipstick part came in different episodes. The…
I can understand that the manga version had large eyes etc, but when making a big screen production, you have to make changes. Novel/manga has to be adapted to screenplay. It's a very taxing job, you only have to look towards JK Rowling to know that not every author can be a good screenwriter. Even this show has a lot of changes that were different from the manga to adapt it to the screen, so making her look like a girl in obvious male outfits was a choice that I didn't appreciate.

I was just watching a clip of TLB and thinking exactly the same thing about Reba not looking like a man in any…
Yeah, Bromance also had a very credible FL playing a guy. Heiress was the first time I thought the FL looked amazing as both a guy and a girl, so they cast pretty well.

I'll check it out for sure. There are sooo many cdramas nowadays, some just slip through without me knowing.

Ummmmm...I speak for many of us here when I say that we love TLB for TLB. Is it the perfect script ever written?…
I think giving it a 7/10 shows I wasn't bashing the show. I rate based on my own bias. I won't tell anyone to think that what I am saying is 100% correct. It's an opinion I hold and has no meaning to anyone else. I'm glad that you enjoyed the show and were able to overlook some idiosyncrasies.
I probably won't ever rewatch the show to make a second go at it, but maybe I'll read the manga one day. I am a huge cross-dressing theme fan, but sometimes when the drama takes itself seriously like this one but overlooks believability, to me it's a major flaw. Every time I saw FL acting a male, but has bright red lipstick and eye makeup, I was taken out of the immersive experience. It's such a simple thing that is easily controllable, but the obvious choice to make her look pretty, disregarding the realism in the story was hard for me to accept.

Agree. I am not so shallow that I want to see goddesses and gods on screen all the time that look their best. If the script calls for it, okay, but here the script is gritty and the choice to perpetuate beauty over realism is a major flaw in my opinion.

Haha, I doubt you will be able to change my mind on this show. I didn't hate it or love it, it's just a 7/10 for me.
Dilraba put in so much effort to prepare for her role, however, the choices made by the director in terms of costume and makeup totally undermine all the hard work and effort she put into her character. The actors are working with what they're told. My biggest gripes with the show are decisions made by the director/productions team. I only have to look towards 'The Heiress" a low-budget production with the cross-dressing theme as a major plot point in the story to know that it's not hard to make a girl look like a boy if done half-heartedly. That show in particular is also trying to go for a serious historical drama vibe and I think the director did a decent job with what he had. The FL in that show actually pulled off the cross-dressing well and I think Dilruba could have done it too if given half a chance, but was made to look like a girl with obvious makeup in order to make sure that she always looked beautiful. Therein lies what I dislike, the fact that they tried to beautify the characters at the expense of believability.

Okay dude, I am going to try to answer your comment as neutrally as I possibly can. I actually lost brain cells…
I'm not sure why my comment has triggered you to such an extent. The fact that your blood boils because I have certain opinions on this show is kind of odd and not a healthy state of mind. Also, the fact that you want me to keep my opinion to myself, but are happy to share your own with me strikes me as hypocritical. Oh, and please don't assume I haven't watched the show just because I haven't come to the same conclusion you have after watching the show. Not everyone will like the same things, what might strike you as awesome might just be mediocre for me. It's a matter of taste and perspective.

Now, onto my review of the show, I did not blame the actors or ever state that they were horrible. I believe that they are good actors, not the best but not the worst either. I enjoy some of their shows, and I wanted to like this show, but it didn't live up to my expectations. I blamed the director for the idiosyncrasies I pointed out. I went into this show with the mindset that this is a serious historical drama. I don't mind cross-dressing in dramas that looks obviously fake since many of those shows are low-budget and aren't going for accuracy. But in this show, her dressing as a male is a very, very relevant plot point. The fact that I could never see the FL as a male because of obvious makeup/costume choice is due to decisions made by the director/makeup/costume artists. This a major flaw in my opinion for a show that wants to take itself seriously. I am not ignorant about the need for makeup for all actors, be they female or male due to lighting etc...but there have been shows where it's been done well and it there shouldn't be an excuse for it.

I never begrudge anyone their opinion and I think it's wonderful that you found this show to be amazing. I want everyone to be able to watch and enjoy dramas. I'm not trying to antagonize you or anyone who found this show to be amazing. I've seen enough actors to make my own judgements and I don't think the main leads in this show were mind-blowing. I can like a show because I enjoyed it, but I am honest with myself. There are some shows that I love because of nostalgia, or because I am in love with the cast, but that doesn't mean that I will elevate the show based on those biases. I enjoyed the story in TMOPB because of the fact that it's a historical fantasy. One of my favourite books is The Pillow Book, so when the drama came out I watched it back-to-back. I have a bias to it, but that doesn't mean that I can't see the flaws in the show. I love it, flaws and all, because of it's significance to me. If I judge that show critically, I would never give it a high rating, but I judge it based on feeling and nostalgia. For this particular show, it didn't have a grip on me, so I judged it critically. You can take any show and find nuances in actors expression, the beauty in the story and write essays about how it's plot is special or better than anything before it, but at the end of the day, it's a biased opinion, based on your own live experience and personal preference. You are happy to your opinion and I think we can agree that it's just a drama and not worth arguing with anyone past what has already been said.

Utter trash. Garbage writing and garbage directing. I don't blame the actors, they did their best with the s*** presented to them. Nat is the MVP, in terms of acting and in terms of getting away with everything she did.

The romance was lacklustre since all we got were forced kisses and hand dragging. The plot went nowhere post ep. 2 since the mystery (not even sure thats what I should call it) was solved so early. The 22 episodes were all filler, this show should've been max 12 episodes. The fact that we never even found out who Rin's baby daddy was (yeah yeah, they hinted that it's Cherdchai's friend, but we never really got to know) goes to show that the writer and director have zero respect for the audience.

Wasted my time watching this, thank goodness I watched it in x2 speed and even then fast forwarded through the show. Honestly don't understand why producers are still pouring money into this type of garbage and giving these types of scripts a chance to air. I'll be taking note of the director and writer for this show in order to blacklist them.

Your SFL means strong female lead? Yes, this is an amazing drama. Even the worst of the charaters in this drama…
I use novel updates for finding novels mainly because I have it bookmarked with the search page on completed. I just check daily to see if any new novel is completed and my saved list has the incomplete ones consolidated so I can check their progress using the sticky notes with total chapters listed on them. I was pleasantly surprised to find a novel thats completed wasn't on novel updates database. I love fantasy/historical novels the most, so this one is right up my alley ^^

Yeah, I found it after doing a search. I always wait for novels/dramas to be complete before I ever start reading because I like to binge them and HATE having to wait if I ever like a show.

I hadn't heard of The Blue Whisper, thanks for pointing it out! I'm sad that it doesn't have an entry in novel updates (where I find all of my cnovels). I wasn't aware that there are translated novels that aren't on their database. I'll be binging The Blue Whisper this weekend :). I would love to know how you came to know about it and if there are other novels that I'm missing.

I'm surprised by how well this drama was received. I think it's a solid 7/10. However, I think it's mostly because of the beautiful people in this show that everyone is gushing over this. The story is decent, the acting mediocre to subpar in some instances (except for some of the older cast, honestly loved the Tang three stooges and the Emperor). This also speaks about the lack of good content being released for the past few years. The drama is decent, but is being heralded as a gem and I'm not surprised since there aren't that many good dramas these days with complex plots AND good acting.
This show is mainly being judged with rosy eyes and an overload of hormones. The cartoons in random segments of the show were annoying, especially as they were used to show large scale battle scenes (I'm sure to reduce the cost of production) or very crucial plot development and took me out of immersive experience.
I did like that the FL/ML had a healthy relationship and the character growth of the FL throughout the show was commendable. But I think the director made many bad calls, such as how FL NOT ONCE looked like a male, but we, as an audience, is supposed to believe that she can pull this off? There was even obvious makeup and lipstick on her in her 'male' scenes! This is an insult to the audience as well as the cast members.
Lastly, I just want to say that this is just my opinion, I wanted to like this show more, but every time I came across an idiosyncrasy I felt let down. I think this show could've been much better if it was directed with more sincerity to realism and relied less on the beauty of the actors to gloss over major inconsistencies.

Only one thing I didn't understand or may have missed something... Though I've ignored the fact.. :D
Kind of late reply, but it's to spite her cousin, but mostly because she needs money for her revenge plan, and knowing his weekness, she knows she can exploit him for money, all the while stab her cousin.

Yup, the fact that females always have to brunt of such relationships is sad to see even in the 21st century. But I'm still shocked that the two somehow reconciled their differences and decided to do a show together. Mind-blowing!

I felt super sad for Tanya in those days, and her children as well. However, the fact that Tanya stayed with the cheating wh**e of a husband even after this whole ordeal made me even more sad. He basically got off scott free to continue to be a cheating douche but Pinky lost her career as a nang-ek and got releagted to more explicit and nang-rai roles. I miss her in the more normal rom-coms, however, I can understand the decision against placing her in those roles since her real-life actions should have consequences. You DO NOT try and break up a family, EVER. If anything, wait until the couple divorces before getting into a relationship.

Nope, it happened quite a few years ago, well before this show. I remeber how dissapointed I was with Pinky since I really liked her as an actress.

I'm back after two years to rant about him still not getting lead roles. There is an outbreak of underqualified leads in kdramas and yet good actors like him keep being relegated to side roles that go on to steal the show because even being a side character their acting shines through.
Thanks, end of rant. I'll be back again if I still don't see him take the lead in something.

There hasn't been a lakorn that I binge-watched non-stop for a while, and this one just blew my expectations away! I loved the main characters, loved the story and even the quirky side-characters are very memorable, shoutout to Taew!
I think the comedy was done really well, the timing and sound effects were used soooo well, that I was laughing out loud in almost every episode. The leads chemistry was also off the charts. I was introduced to Namfah and August (my previous) and I think I'll be looking forward to their other lakorns from now on.
I just feel sad that I'm finished, the last few episodes were a bit draggy with way too many flashbacks but overall the drama was spectacular and I now have withdrawal.

OMG, cannot believe I clicked the title because it sounded so outlandish, and then see both Pinky and Tanya as main leads. Thai's have an odd sense of humour or something? Putting people who have had real-life beef in the same show (Tanya's husband cheated on her with Pinky irl). How did the two agree to this?
