Doing comedy well is not easy, too little or too much can spoil the show however this director is actually quite good in capturing comedic moments with camera angle, with the over the top, colourful and theatrical comedy reminds me of watching a Japanese animation, which is very fun, but do not be deceived as underneath there is actually a serious plot that is waiting to be uncovered. Note: this is not just a comedy. Both Ryan and Wang ChuRan nailed their roles. I am more excited to see how Tang Xiao Tian play out the villian SML, don’t remember seeing him in such villian role previously.
Guo Rong needed to be away to do and build stuff, to work on his grief and being involved in rediscovering his meaning to live again…he came back a better ruler. Guo Wei is such a resilience and strong character…the amount of baggage he carries and yet able to do his part as a ruler…I have tremendous admiration for this character. Feng Dao is another level of a wise smart character that can survived for century.

This post should be pinned for future viewers, this script writer as PeachBlossom mentioned, a lot of ‘white-washing’ of Hu Jin Si’s character and dumbing down Qian Hong Zong’s character. The plot holes and inconsistency is more obvious for those who have read up on this part of the history. Here they definitely toned down Hu and made him a loyal subject to Wu Yue.😓

Ah yes, ShuiQiu and Hu Jin Si cannot co-exist…it’s interesting how it’s written here for Hu Jin Si to admit his part of massacre ShuiQiu’s family and for ShuiQiu to appear so respectful of Hu Jin Si…I must say it’s gave a more humane touch to the two of them.
There was a scene where Hong Chu acted “disrespectful” to the military and got sent far away and everyone…
I feel Hong Zong is pressured to take the throne too and he just knew Hu JinSi is not easy to handle so he is just too silly thinking that with power he can just removed a minister under him. Too naive…as you see to the end he was so willing to give up the throne to his brother.
