Yes, it is. And to me a satisfactory one compare to the recent transmigration drama I watched.

Cheng Lei definitely showcase his versatility in acting here. From comedy to anger, madness and grief, very well captured for his character as Xia HouDan compared to his other roles. Wang ChuRan’s acting also surprised me here too, she should really do more comedy.

I finished it and absolutely enjoyed the ride. This is one of the most enjoyable drama for the start of 2026, with good humor, natural acting (both Cheng Lei and Wang ChuRan nailed their characters), absolutely love the plot, it didn’t take itself seriously yet there are some serious tone and sad moments. I am glad the villain stayed true to who he is till the end. I am glad the death toll wasn’t as high as expected. I knew the ending, and watching it bring satisfaction as something’s are best left unexplain;).

I tried very hard not to invest in any of the novel characters as I know they will not end well. I can foreshadowed YongEr and the 4 scholars’ death. It’s still heartbreaking.😓
