I should rephrase that, this script took some of old tropes, with negative ML’s behavior and wrote it onto the FL. The lack of balance in CP and I didn’t see any growth in FL’s arc, her rudeness are accepted as a norm, like some of the old school tropes where some domineering ML’s behavior are tolerated😓.

XZY does have good friends, e.g. his business partner, Mr Gong who is more than a partner but a friend, and he does seem to have a healthier perspective in relationship, eg. how his staff respects him, however I felt he intentionally stayed detached as he is focused on his goals to uncover his father’s death and he doesn’t want others to be to attach to him until he met HuXiu.
So far we can see by the characterization presented that XZY can sense HX’s needs when he is attuned to it. But yes, PZ is much more unhealthy in that aspect, see how he kept imposing onto HX and not considering her discomfort. For him, it’s what he thought he wants and not how others feel…probably learnt from his narcissistic father.

Initially I was thinking about siblings’ rivalry but what confused me is that SML doesn’t get his father’s love anyway. So to win ML, doesn’t have much of a benefit intention. Hence I felt it’s a conflictual emotions. He wants ML to be his best buddy brother and suffer together with such a father, but yet ML didn’t and yet able to shine well even without needing their family resources…So he wanted to used Hu Xiu but without realizing how HX is such a great character that he was also attracted to…hahahah. A petty immature state, which hopefully in his redemption arc, he will grow.

I do not quite understand Pei Zhen’s hostility towards Xiao Zhi Yu. It’s kind of felt forced and inconsistent.
Let’s examine what we seen so far: XZY is better as an architect designer, who won awards and won over some business competitions from ZhuLing, but that only means that XZY is good in his area of work. Why does it creates such personal anger that PZ had on him?
PZ is not an architect, he only manages the company, so if any other good small architectural company won your projects, one should be wondering about his team of architects and not a personal grudge.
So if you say it’s from a step siblings’ relationship, XZY has always manage his studies on his own, independent and also choose to distant himself from his mom. So PZ has love from stepmom and resources from father, so why is he angry at XZY? He blames XZY for keeping the name Qin Xiao Yi in VR game, but what’s that got to do with him. It’s not like XZY has a choice, his name was changed by his own mom, and can’t he even keep it to remember his own father? Why is PZ so fixated over this matter?
My only explanation is PZ wants a brother and when his step-brother chooses to ignore him, he becomes angry, and all his behavior towards XZY is just to gain his attention.
If that is the characterization, then it’s a pathetic character who do not have a goal to live for himseld. Maybe that’s why he would fall for Hu Xiu, and be so jealous of XZY.
HX gave him new perspectives to ponder on and she is also the ‘light’ in his darkness and narrow-mind. Too bad we all know he won’t have HX, so his redemption arc will have to be something he could do in his work role.
