Wow! Thank you very much for posting the article here.🙏🏻 So much effort and money was put into by Wang to get the Brits to write the screenplay. Such irony that a Chinese character to be written by Westerners.
This reminded me of another movie by Crystal Liu, remake of Mulan by Disney, which was also a huge disappointment as the story lost its original essence.

I see, I didnt know that it’s originated from British screenwriters. Maybe that explained the ‘Sherlock Holmes’ flavor.;) I can’t open the link, but thanks, now I know. I will adjust my expectation for future viewing.

I see you finally decided to pen this review;) As usual well written review, esp. on “visually stunning….and lackluster supporting performance.” I felt its also partly due to the perspectives of the author who is non Chinese. Hence the Strange Tales of Tang is definitely so much better written compare to this drama, because it’s written based on a Chinese perspectives on how history of Judge Dee should be understood. I will still catch S2, see how they intend to carry forward the story.

TJC and ZJY, the unusual match, but I am excited to see how this two CP chemistry will be, just saw their premiere interview on YouTube.

Hahhaha…agreed., I have seen smarter, more sensible 5yrs old.

For me it’s always the Ending scene. I always felt this drama can give a better and clearer pix on the ending scene and not gave us ambiguity to guess upon.

Some of us think she is only 5years old. lol!

All ep dropped today.

So at last two ep., we see FL won over the scheming crown prince with the help of an ally (who is also from future), the third princess and ML. FL was crowned Empress and she abolished some rigid rules of the country and change policy for women and marriage. Then she was told she has to return or she will die in three days and she started to cough blood. ML found out and at the last moment send her to the gateway, he jumped off and committed suicide (I didn’t expect that). The third princess took over the crown and continue to enforce FL’s vision of a gender equality country. And next moment we see FL woke up from coma, her attending Dr came in wearing a mask, she unmasked him and guess who, of course ML smiling at her. Happy ending.

So it’s complete, didn’t expect the script to give the last bit of tear jerking moments.
Overall for a mini series, I will give it a 7/10 which is a high rating compare to other mini series I watched. Hope it get subs so more viewers get to see this drama. Will post some spoilers for ending at following post, so open at own risk;).

I understand. I like season 1, this second season, thought the director changed, expected different style for S2. Somehow this storyline and pacing just didn’t feel as good as S1.

This is a drama is not for everyone. Those who watch on till the end, do enjoyed it even though the ending is not the most satisfactory. This drama was suppose to be longer but due to censorship, a lot editing happened and some scenes may be missed. If you want, I have reply your comments below. hope that helps a little and you would want to continue;)

I totally understand the frustration and for this drama, the resolution come very late. This is one of the common topic that most of us debated on when we first watch the drama. Just sharing some perspectives, firstly not communicating is a common theme in c drama conflicts and in this drama, there is quite a lot of this moments. It’s actually quite hard for FL to trust ML(TTJ) because before she time travelled, she saw her whole sect being slaughtered by him. Even a small part of her wants to believe in him, she can’t forget her mission and can’t take that risk. It’s the process of TTJ meeting LSS, did he change and wanted to not be just a born vessel for DG. You mentioned ML forgiving her? I am wondering which part or ep are you?, maybe I can clarify some thoughts. hope this helps a little.

Ah…thanks for the explanation. That’s clarifies why CX is assured to let Xiu go to YZ. I must go reviewed that dialogue, I hear the part about Xiu not taking revenge for Ge, but miss the double meaning about YZ. Yes, pretty much like the GOT situation, the Walls cannot fall. ZiChuan keeps the peace and balance among the races. Let’s hope CX won’t attempt to get rid of Xiu because of Ning’s behaviour.
