Novel readers mentioned that Ms Su and GPY actually have some attraction to each other in the book. I am glad the script didn’t focus on that, I don’t want Ms Su to be the difficult SFL.

Hi Ash, I am going to watch Vendetta of An, ML ChengYi.;) What about yourself? Still catching up on Thriving land? I couldn’t watch that, have to drop it as make me so emotional in every ep😅.

The script packed too many strong emotions for the last 6 ep. As viewers, it’s really hard to absorb the quick changing emotions. We have to first digest the parents’ reveal, the father-son dynamics, the friendship brotherhood to step siblings’ relationship then the mess created by LQ and the salt issues with Foreign pressure…just too many plot points to settle in such short timing, which became very superficial😓.

Jokes aside, thought he does it so that he wanted GPY to let go of hatred…that’s my take.

Ah, 👍🏻got it. War scenes need a lot more budget😅. As for second point, thats why a lot of dramas with historical figures tend to be vagued on the names associated or they are extremely cautious with the narratives. Probably more so for Republican era type of dramas.

True👍🏻. War scenes and historical political figure may go through stricter scrutiny by c censorship board, so I do think it’s a wise decision here that they focus on business/merchant’s perspectives.

And based on the context where GPY mentioned donating the money for great cause, and time period of nearing 1911 Revolution, I am going to guess that he is Hu HanMin, also a member of Tong Meng Hui (Chinese Revolutionary Alliance) at that time, and follower Sun Yat-Sen who later formed KuoMingTang (Chinese Nationalist Party).

I actually felt the sudden change made sense although it does feel abrupt. He was along about fair competition with GYP. Then when GYP’s identity was revealed and even everyone tells him that he can’t win as he is fighting the whole Qing govern and not just GYP. Something happened to his father made him even more self-destructive and made a bad decision but he wasn’t malicious, just impulsive and never think through the outcome of his plans. While as we all know eventually who will solve it and I still like the treatment of the relationship between GYP and LQ, esp. at the ending.
What I am dissatisfied about is still Ms Su’s role.😓 But it is what it is.

I didn’t read the novel, but read online clips on certain parts about the novel. What you said make sense that the script writer wanted to just follow GPY’s path, so the theme doesn’t get distracted by other plot line.

If I am not wrong, the novel Li Qin is much worst and did some terrible things to hurt GPY. But here, it wasn’t as bad, he made some impulsive bad decision in trying to win GPY, but ultimately he also turn over.
Btwn it’s a happy ending for all;).
