To me it’s how the director choose to sequence this storyline that was a problem. The director immediately up front in first few ep show us their steamy scenes and sexual tension, what as viewers lack is a proper build up from how a pair of siblings with no biological relation fall in love as adults. Since beginning, this director is eager to show us their chemistry and only filled in the background through flashbacks.
A good example of such storyline, will be how it’s done in “Go Ahead”, nicely transited from family to lovers’ trope.😓

I find the English translation is too simplified and didn’t gave enough justification for the deeper meaning of the four Chinese words on Jin Zhao’s keychain. The four words are “朝思暮想” aka ‘Zhao Si Mu Xiang’, which two words have the slang sound of ML and FL’s name - Zhao and Mu in it. The other part is ‘Zhao si’ means “one’s longing and yearning”, ‘Mu Xiang’ can also mean “thinking of Mu”, so putting it together is ML, ‘Zhao is thinking, longing and yearning for Mu’ all the time.

💯 agreed! A groundbreaking timeless classic. Unlike being remembered as an iconic work of a director. This drama is the effort of a great teamwork with rightful casts. As many has mentioned, it attempts to breakthrough the traditional XianXia and aim to achieve higher standard as a XuanHuan drama.
I wanted to add the the concept of “karma” 因果being explored here. A lot of Tang LiCi’s action were also a result of seed of kindness plant from Fang Zhou and ripens TLC’s ultimate nature of compassion for humanity. One will always wonder is human nature inherently good or bad. I am definitively more into the Buddhist view that human are inherently good, but our attachment became our entanglement and probably the ultimate aim of enlightenment is to let go of attachment entanglement to find peace, hence TLC’s ending is such a symbolic portrayal. Human lives are bound by condition of attachment, however the extend of our suffering are also bound by our perception that makes our suffering worsen. So May all gain insightful perspective through watching this drama.😍

This show…at every ep. the audience will be invested in someone seemingly important and then get killed off…hmmmm. Revenge is about sacrifice, I get it, the death toll is high.

- YangZi in Flourished Poeny, 1&2, she shows her versatility in her role.
- Maggie Huang in Blemish Flaw, a veteran actress and a very good one.
