Force and Book's chemistry in the show doesn't seem to live up to their chemistry in real life. Here in the show, maybe it's their acting or they are trying to hard to be the characters that it just kinda comes off as awkward in certain scenes. They have potential but with so many BL series coming out it's easy to see why they don't get the same level of popularity achieved by other GMMTV BL couples. Right now I'm super annoyed by all the Enchante candidates except for Saifa lol! Phupha is a goddamn stalker, Wayo is a cheat and the worse of them all so far would be Natee the creep and his creepy-ass crazy sidekick Tan! Those two are so irritating and I dunno why ep 7 seems to focus so much on them, whenever they appear they just seems to drag down the energy of the show. Their acting is just frankly terrible that it makes you dislike the actors lol! Comparing their scenes to Jimmy's performance as Wai in Bad Buddy; many ppl commented that Wai is unlikable but Jimmy acted so well that ppl can separate his character from his real-life persona! I guess it all comes down to natural charisma, Jimmy definitely has it and those two actors who acted as Natee and Tan, don't.
same happened with fish upon the sky, curse of airing a new series after a highly popular one ended, and just…
I dunno why they compared A 1000 Stars which is a melodrama to FUTS which is a cute fluffy BL romcom. Both are BL yes but they are in separate genres. I enjoyed both, A 1000 Stars for its feels and FUTS for making me laugh out loud, not to mention PondPhuwin which are such cuties!
Ep 3 is a HUGE improvement from the first two eps, Honestly when I woke up this morning I was like meh, am I going to watch Enchante which seems sooo boring and slow or am I going to play my PC game, well I chose Enchante reluctantly but man it seems like a different show now! No more jarring scenes and more background music in all the scenes certainly did help greatly improve the feel of the story. It kinda seems like GMMTV is listening to viewers' feedback and so they re-edited the episodes, I'm not sure if this is the case but if it really is then that's definitely a welcome gesture. Ep 3 also kind of subtly giving hints about the four Enchante candidates' respective motivations and this really helps to move the plot along. Force is super handsome and hot as hell and his facial expressions are super funny. Gawin has the best charisma hands down, when he appears he literally steals the scene. Anyway, I'm invested in the show again so let's see what happen next. :-)
I think it's past time we moved on from this obsession to label a person's sexuality. In many ancient Asian cultures,…
Most ppl are actually somewhere along the sexuality spectrum as defined by the Kinsey scale. I already pointed out that the vast majority of men nowadays identified as straight as it's a cultural norm in the societies they live in. However, you will see 'straight men' having lots of gay sex with each other in certain closed environments such as prisons and all-male boarding schools. Sexuality is a spectrum and just like how it was in the ancient past, most ppl can switch their attraction to the same sex but prevailing homophobic attitudes in most societies prevent this. And yes, homophobia is definitely a Western import.
A lot of things in modern society are of Western origin as you rightly pointed out and there's really no complaints about that, those things you mentioned does make modern life a lot cushier and bearable. What I'm pointing out is that Western concept of sexuality does not have to ride roughshod over traditional Asian societies' view on sexuality, which is far more liberal than so-called progressive modern Western view. I just feel we Asians have a role to play in reclaiming our heritage and pushback against the prevailing Western concept and norms in our art and fiction. If ppl identified themselves as straight and they fall in love with another person of their same sex, so be it. There's really no need to 'come to term' with themselves and 'come out of the closet' becos everyone is different, there is no need to lump all into one group over the other. Frankly speaking I find this modern Western obsession with identity politics to be suffocating and regressive and serves no purpose other than to cause conflict among people.
BL was initially created by women for women. You are correct to say that many women wouldn't bother if the main characters are gay or straight as long as they get together, well it's the same for Western media where audience also don't bother about whether the girl is a lesbian or not before she engages in sexual relations with another girl character. I honestly find BL media with its focus on the female gaze empowering for women, though I'm not a feminist lol.
This episode was fucking amazing. If I wasn't already obsessed with this show, I definitely would be now.I haven't…
Lol, I immediately knew they are showing off the features of the car as Suzuki Swift is one of the sponsors we can see during opening credits! I was in between laughing out loud and living my masochist fantasy during that scene when Dan 'manhandles' and handcuffs Yok lol!
After episode 7 I finally know why I can't connect with Not Me. I totally agree with the message conveyed but…
I actually don't think it's being preachy at all. The dialogue is mainly about anti-capitalism and corruption as this is the main plot of the entire story. These characters are anarchist and the way it's being presented happens becos we are experiencing these views in White's shoes, as he pretends to be Black to find out who is responsible for hurting his brother. So obviously we see things from White's perspective and how he slowly learn more about Black's motivations in the process. I believe the director has managed to weave these social themes perfectly in the storyline without sounding preachy. But I guess ppl have different preferences and views and so no issue with that. I mean, I dislike Bad Buddy from ep 10 onwards especially the silly and ridiculous scholarship plotline lol but many ppl are saying it's a great series.
This was a good episode, but they're trying to have it both ways. It's incongruous to have a strong statement…
I think it's past time we moved on from this obsession to label a person's sexuality. In many ancient Asian cultures, men would sleep around with other men and no one will bat an eyelid. The modern sexuality labeling practice comes from the West and though it serves a purpose then, and in many ways it still serves a purpose in many societies now, it is imo fast becoming irrelevant. Most people are actually bi-oriented. They are usually somewhere along the spectrum. Very few ppl are 100% gay or straight in actual life, and for the most part sexuality is majorly-influenced by societal norms they are part of. That is why when homophobic attitudes prevail in vast majority of modern societies, men would not openly acknowledged or actively suppress their sexual attraction towards other men. For me, learning about sexuality, especially on how it was then in ancient Japan and China, allowed me to watch BL without any apprehension. I never bothered with these characters labeling themselves as gay or straight or whatever. In fact, I've read an opinion piece by an American gay columnist a few months back online, for Elle magazine or some other magazine, I don't really remember, he mentioned that during the Covid 19 lockdown he actually falls for his girl bestie and even having sexual relations with her. Now he is dating her openly. So it went 180 degrees as he said he has always been openly gay and never having relationships with women, and now he is dating one and the best part is he no longer bothers about what to label himself. What actually annoys me however is the constant bombardment from the Western media on how all women are 'fluid' and they can just switch between loving one guy and sleeping with another girl next. You see this in so many series and movies from USA or other Western countries and these girls were never pestered to label their sexuality at all. It just seems to be an accepted fact. However, if one male character even shows an ounce of sexual attraction towards another guy, there will be a whole story arc of him eventually coming to terms with his sexuality and coming out as gay or whatever. Why the double standards??? A girl don't need to 'come out of the closet' but a guy always need to do so??? What a load of bs, lol. I realized that all these labeling practices comes from the Western view and practice, meaning things are perceived from Western-oriented pov. I believe it's about time for a more Asian-centric view of things to emerge.
I think there's a serious disconnect between people who are just watching the show and the ones who have been…
I love the director. I hv watched both of her award-winning films The Blue Hour and Malila The Farewell Flower so coming in to Not Me I knew this will hv a dark theme. This is so in line with the director's preferred style and I read an interview of the director before where she reveals she has even dated a real-life hitman in her past! I believe most BL fans only expect the normal fluffy romcom BLs so with Not Me exploring serious social topics and not focusing much on romance, these fans do not understand that so their expectations are not met. Personally, I am very interested in politics and I hv kept informed about Thai politics over the years so the issues Not Me explore here is not something that is foreign to me. I do understand though this is not something easy to grasp on especially if you are the typical young, teenage girl BL fan.
i think y'all are only calling not me boring sooooo much bc they weren't and still aren't tonsil deep in each…
hahaha lolz, those ppl are damn thirsty. But I saw a video where Gun said there will be 'hot scenes' so I am excited to see those scenes soon, and hopefully this will shut up all the haters!
First ep seems a bit off. A lot of jarring scenes and awkward silences. More background music in certain scenes would hv make it so much better. Since the four potential Enchanté suitors will show up in next ep, hopefully the story will pick up soon.
I read a youtube comment about the interesting parallel made between Enchanté's main characters and the classic French fairy tale The Little Prince. Here in Enchanté, Theo is the Prince, those four potential suitors are the roses and Akk is the tamed fox. This show already references the fairytale in the scene where as children Theo would always play dress up as the prince whereas Akk the child is holding a fox-shaped pillow. I am excited to see where all this leads to!
There is only one review that was honest and correct, I was hoping for more reviews that are honest, but I could…
I think you are taking this too seriously. Is this series the kind of Emmy-worthy mature series that are scooping up awards left, right and center? Absolutely not. This is just a simple romcom BL series and we watch it for what it is, a romantic comedy. Obviously if you haven't already noticed, Thai guys in BL series absolutely love to throw fistfights with each other lol! If you have seen others you would hv known. The product placements are quite annoying, I will agreed with you there. This seems to be a common feature of the Asian tv series industry, as you will see this in Kdramas, C-dramas, Taiwanese dramas, etc. I guess this is because these sponsors foot a huge chunk of the production costs, so there's always this tie-in between the sponsors and film company. In the West, this is a lot less common as the studios themselves are wealthy enough to dump millions of dollars in series with high-end production value. Look at GoT for example. You are also right about the targeted audience which are mostly teen girls. The new generation Z that always find everything offensive and toxic so this show is designed to cater to them. There will not be a lot of heavy drama involved, cos these kids couldn't take it or understand it, and honestly I was also disappointed as the novel this show was adapted from has a huge heavy drama plot that started after the parents discover PatPran's relationship. They lessen this greatly in the show so it don't trigger those teens lol. Anyway, if you want a more mature BL series, then ATOTS or Manner of Death would be more right up your lane.
Finished the show. It seems to set up for a potential season 2 or at least some special eps if the producers were ever interested to do so. This is a great romcom series but I do feel like it has ended in a very jarring manner, perhaps the last scenes where it seems PatPran broke the fourth wall kinda felt off. Great chemistry from OhmNanon as always but I was more interested in the resolution of their parents' opposition to their relationship, it just shows they are slowly coming to terms with it but still not fully accepting yet. I guess this might be the season 2 or special eps plot then. As expected, there is no kiss scene for the girl couple InkPa. I already mentioned before their romantic plot is just pandering and when you include a new character like Ink that is not from the novel itself, it almost always ruin the plot when the scriptwriters do not manage to incorporate the new character smoothly into the storyline. Disappointed but not really lol since I never was a fan of their couple. Here's hoping for a potential season 2 or some special eps! :-)
Nope, in the novel it's more about the misunderstanding both sides have about each other's businesses though it…
But it's so unrealistic. Having great actors like OhmNanon and not getting them do the heavy drama seems like a waste of potential. Homophobia is rising in the world right now so having a BL show addresses that issue would not hv been jarring, if it was done in a mature way that would hv been great to see. Anyway, that is just my opinion, since I lived in a very homophobic society. BL is a form of escape, and maybe it's just my preference that I love shows that incorporate a touch of realism in their storyline.
Beautiful and heartbreaking at the same time. I watched this on Netflix and it shows mostly from Jia Han's pov and I heard there was a Director's Cut version that show more of Birdy's pov. I would love to watch that version as well. But no matter, even with the Netflix version, I can feel Birdy's love and affection for Jia Han is super overwhelming and this is shown in many hints throughout the plot. Not sure why many ppl commented here they don't understand Birdy's intentions but I can see through his intentions in those scenes hinting of his deep affection for Jia Han. Masterful portrayal by the young actor playing him, same goes with the actor playing Jia Han as well. I usually dislike silly tearjerker romance films but this really made me cried. Absolutely love it!
GramBlack ship is sailing omg!!! Dan and Yok's scenes are always my favourite even though they are so short! The part where Yok silently went up behind Dan and then whispered 'Gotcha' gives me stalker fantasy vibe lol! And his silly dorky smile afterwards got me squealing in bolster pillow!
Right now I'm super annoyed by all the Enchante candidates except for Saifa lol!
