Episode 10 was adorable and highly redeeming. Episode 11 was two steps back again. FL was cute initially, then got on my nerves again after the restaurant meal. Come on already!!
I think FL is still not prepared for French kissing with ML ... u know ... the kind of kiss you still not too…
You just made me laugh. Yes, he's incredible. Yes, it's probably the director's decision. I don't think it's due to censorship because we've gotten steamy kisses in the past. For some reason that I legitimately can not understand they decided to do this. I'm hoping it gets better as the show progresses. If you fall asleep, Miles will visit you ❤️
Yeah, the tropes can be really frustrating. I hope that eventually we'll see more of the novel in the show. And I hope that they stay true enough to the novel not to make them break up but I don't know. With the personality they gave the FL I don't even want to imagine how she'll react to the SFL.
I'm continuing to watch, despite being disappointed. My disappointment, first and foremost, is that they changed…
There is no breakup in the novel. I also hope they follow that.
This is pure speculation, but I think they'll get married earlier in the show bc his mom will demand it due to her illness. Like, she'll want to see the marriage license, marriage photos, or something like that, so they'll do it for her.
I'm continuing to watch, despite being disappointed. My disappointment, first and foremost, is that they changed…
In the novel the female lead is more caring, more mature, more sensible and more communicative. Also, they get married immediately.
So, the main story of the novel revolves around the FL's growth, how she establishes her career, and how she comes to fall in love with the ML despite feeling inferior to him.
When the ML takes over as manager there is some minor friction with the exisiting team, but not the extent which the show focused on. The majority of the early chapters is the ML being nice to the FL and her slowly falling in love.
Then the middle part is her being in love with him but struggling with it, because she thinks he's too good for her and would never love her in return. The more we see her do for him, bc she can't help herself from loving him, the sweeter he is to her in return. It's really heartwarming.
The conflicts that arise between them stem from a place of legitimate pain. Once or twice in the early chapters we see her snap at him when her insecruities rise up and he says something particually loving which sets her off. But she always apologizes immediately and she knows she's in the wrong. He never has to coax her or calm her down. And her bad moods blow over fast so they're not truly "fighting" and the bad feelings don't linger. No one ever threatens to leave.
There is one period where they are separated for a few days, but it's handled very well. Before she knows he truly loves her, she discovers that she might be pregnant. In a panic she browses on her phone for abortion clinics and one of them accidentally calls her (based on her browing history) and the entire office hears the call (including the ML). They talk immediately afterwards. He aks her why she hasn't told him she's pregnant, and why she wants an abortion. She snaps it's my choice and I didn't actually sechudule anything, just looking at my options, and why should I have a baby now when I'm working so hard to build a career. He doesn't push her on it, but her heart is broken. Before they can resolve anything, her best friend calls her sobbing about a breakup with her boyfriend so the FL rushes to her friend's house. Using the friend as an excuse she stays at the friend's house for two days, mostly avoiding the ML. Eventually it comes out that the FL is not pregnant. She's at the verge of running back to the ML, apologizing, when she gets a call from her mom that her dad needs a surgery and is in the hospital. She rushes to the hospital and calls the ML immediately. He comes to her and is her rock througouut everything. They don't even end up talking the episode through. Just kind of stick to each other strong than before. This is a turning point to their relationhip and the FL decides to love the ML even if she beleives that he doesn't love her back. She really does everything she can to support him and be there for him (not that she wasn't kind to him before, but at this poinst she's showering him with attention and pulling out all the stops).
Another point in the story introduces a SFL who is the ML's college junior and comes to work at their department. The SFL comes from a rich family, has the attitude to match, and wants the ML. Since no one knows that he is married (the bank forbids colleagues dating) she assumes he is fair game. We see her flirting. We see the rest of the depatment discussing how great of a match they are. The ML does nothing to encourage her at all. But the FL is eating her heart out. Especailly since she viesws the ML as so much above her level, she easily sees how well he would match with the rich, sophisticated, and beautiful SFL. But she doesn' t behave irrationaly, or punish the ML for her own jealous feelings. She is very mature about it. The ML does nothing wrong and the FL knows it, despite her feelings, so she pushes through her emotions to treat him fairly as he deserves. No blowups.
So basically, she is sensible from the start. Doesn't throw temper tantrums. When they have issues, they talk them through. She doesn't make work-related demands of him, but respects his position as her manager. At home, they are truly equals and they communicate very well about everything. Their physical contact evolution is great too. He respects her boundries, and she slowly opens up to him when she's comfortable doing so. No deadfish kisses or false modesty. The fact they got married immediately gave their relationship a permenance and weight that is missing from the show.
All in all, I really like her. I adored him. And they were a terrific couple.
Debating if I should continue this drama? how’s the chemistry? the romance? I heard the kisses were dead fish…
I'm continuing to watch, despite being disappointed.
My disappointment, first and foremost, is that they changed the story from the novel and I hate those changes so far. If you're interested in hearing more on this topic let me know and I'll go into detail.
Novel aside, and focusing on the show as a stand-alone, the FL is getting on my nerves. She started off strong but snowballed fast. In the beginning, we see her as a confident woman, a hard worker, she stands up for herself, and won't back down when things get tough or don't go her way. She is 27 years old, striving hard to build her career, and has just broken off a long-term relationship bc her ex let her down and proved he wasn't trustworthy for a long-term commitment. This woman then decides on an arranged marriage with a man who shares her goals and pov on the future. Yet, at the first sign of trouble, she flounces off and threatens to break things off. This woman who gives her all to everything suddenly can't be bothered to work on the relationship that she literally just committed to? She pulls this stunt twice. Finally, after the ML makes the first move multiple times and calms her down, we see her behaving a bit more sensibly and willing to sit down and talk things out, and recommit again.
Then, the ML goes in for a kiss. They haven't kissed yet, as they are still getting to know each other and getting comfortable with physical contact. But they do live in the same house. And, whenever they've had accidental contact, the sparks flew. When the ML finally goes in for a kiss, after she confirms that she is committed to their relationship, she just sits there, giving no response. Not how an adult behaves at all. And not in keeping with the buildup the show had for them either.
To me, I find all of this beyond frustrating.
But I'm hoping it'll get better and that in the future I will end up seeing some aspects of the novel in the show.
I think FL is still not prepared for French kissing with ML ... u know ... the kind of kiss you still not too…
Your assessment might be true. However, there's a middle ground between between "no response" and "ardent french kiss". Full on french kisses are very rarely shown in c-dramas, yet there are shows that portray kisses that run the gamut from sweet, to romantic, to erotic-all without being explicit. All I wanted from her was some sort of response, rather than just sitting there and taking (seemingly enduring) it. Have you ever head the expression "Lie back and think of England?" If you have, then you know what I'm referring to. That's how she behaved in ep 9, especially in the car. I can respect her caution. Her need to wait before going all the way or getting intimate too fast. But she is an adult with previous dating experience who has chosen to commit to the male lead, is living with him, and has had some "charged" moments with him, too. Responding to a kiss like a proper adult would shouldn't be too much to ask for. If you don't like the kiss or want it to stop, then back away. If you like it, then respond. The level of response is up to you (her), but, as I said, she's no longer a child to be impersonating a "dead fish".
Oh no Really??? Are they saying why they hate the character?
I loved ABAY too!!! It was a masterpiece.
You are my Glory was a terrific story. The leads brought emotion, chemistry, and a blend of innocense with adulthood that I found truly charming. If you can get past your dislike of the FL, I highly recommend it.
OMG you're making me cry about dropping Only for Love. They were soooo hot!!!! And I loved them after their issues were resolved.
Oh no Really??? Are they saying why they hate the character?
If veiewship matters, then whoever is running this show should be glad that I'm still hanging on. The reason I am is becasue I want to see how this show will develop, precisely becasue I like the novel so much.
Please don't blame me for expecting a remake of the novel because that's exactly what this show is...or is supposed to be.
I've never dissuaded anyone from watching this show. I've only expressed my own opininons regarding this show, which, at this point, are overwhelmingly disappointment. Fellow watchers will make their own decisions. People who come to this page for an idea of what this show is about prior to starting to watch can see my complaints alongside the compliments of other viewers and make an informed decision regarding if they want to begin watching.
I understand that you like this show and don't wish to see it's viewership hurt. But MDL is a discussion forum and I will continue to share my views on this show, even if they happen to be frustration or critique.
Oh no Really??? Are they saying why they hate the character?
In one aspect she got better as of episode 9: she began communicating a bit better with the ML and seems to be more committed to their relationship. (We'll see how long that lasts...)
Nah, China can do kissing real well when they choose to LOL. Feel free to watch 'you are my glory', 'only for love', 'as beautiful as you', just to name a few.
Oh no Really??? Are they saying why they hate the character?
I can give you my reasons if you'd like.
1) She behaves like a child. The ML and FL chose to be in a committed relationship. He keeps up his end of the deal, being very caring and respectful toward her. Meanwhile, she does nothing for him, gets mad at him for work-related issues that sometimes don't even directly impact her, blows up at him as a result, and then just storms off to sleep at her parents' house without resolving anything. Twice she's threatened to break off their entire relationship without talking things through or even attempting to see things from the ML's pov. This character is supposed to be a 27-year-old adult, who's already had one long-term relationship, and who agreed to a marriage-like committed relationship with the ML. All the while she's acting like an insipid teenager who stomps her feet and flounces off without discussion whenever she's mad. I hate that.
2) "Dead fish" kissing. There are legitimate reasons why a character would not want to have s*x. But in an adult relationship where kissing happens, there is zero reason to make it so lackluster, especially when the ML is doing such a great job of bringing the heat. It's okay to have hot kissing that stops at just kissing. It's been done before, and very well! (You are my glory, only for love, and more!) This show brings back dead fish kisses (think Love 020, the TV version) in a way that's more appropriate for a teenager or college-age student who is experiencing her first taste of romance. Completely out of place in this show's setting.
3) The FL in the novel which this show is based on is completely different. * Mature (98% of the time) * Doesn't run off * Communicates well (mostly) * Kisses him back properly!!!! (while still waiting to go all the way) So I'm even more frustrated because they had terrific source material to work with but decided to destroy it for the show.
Episode 11 was two steps back again. FL was cute initially, then got on my nerves again after the restaurant meal. Come on already!!

Dilraba isn't a particular favorite of mine but Yang Yang is!! And he was especially fine in You are my Glory :)
He kisses her twice, gives it his all, HOT!!!, and she just...sits there.
