I get a dad protecting his child first. But that's no reason to keep that child a secret--it's a reason to keep that child safe and to take care to only introduce her to the person he's seriously considering a future with. She's always liked CX but was willing to give him up (and did!!!!) when it seemed like he'd lose his bid for the throne, when her sticking with him could've helped him and opened his heart to her.
