HT gives up guangha shares to get back JX's shares from Tongke. This makes him primary shareholder of JX's company. But he draws up a document to give it all back to her. She refuses and quits. they break up. eventually Hanhai and JX's company merge which was HT's plan from the start. JX becomes a VP at the new company and with time she and HT get back together.
About HT’s answer, while it’s not what JX wanted to hear, he was being honest.In the novel he goes on to say…
He sacrificed for her before the breakup. He gave up Gunghua shares to get back JX’s company shares from Tongke and offered to give them back to JX, effectively setting her free from his control. She refuses and quits.

Oh you should really read the novel. It’s glorious. Her inner monologue is a thing to behold. Earlier, with that pharmaceutical company she thought about how he deals with his opponents. Then she got hella pissed and super hurt when she found out about Hanhai. She purposely chooses Tongke bc she wants to hurt him back and push him to a reaction as strong as her feelings. She thinks “let’s see how he’ll skin me” or something similar to that. It’s quite something.
Nah Han Ting her wrong. Why don't people see that? Why is he meddling so much in her career behind the scenes??…
He’s protecting her. His company which is older than JX’s is in direct competition with JX’s. Anyone else would have crushed her. He’s building her up with a view towards merging in the future. This path protects her dream while maintaining HT’s much older company which wasn’t going to disappear.

In the novel he goes on to say that love to him is living each day together wanting the same things building a future etc. then he adds that he only wants that with JX. She otoh at this point bc HT kept secrets in a way that seemed to betray her, plus ZD getting into her head, what she wants is grand declarations like I’ll die for you or cant live without you. For HT both are nonsensical and not how he sees things. He will go the extra mile for her though and risk his money to protect her. The series might show all this later on but for at least the parts it already references, something got lost in translation. The novel did a much better job explaining.
