Rewatched the entire episode for the first time yesterday and keep noticing new things, like how much Pat's confession to Ink highlights that his heart has moved on, and the significance of Pran's song. Not to mention Pat's hesitancy to actually tell Pran about his feelings.
Pat's the type of person who acts on his feelings and impulses immediately, and Pran even pointed out in High School that Pat always seems to end up with the one he likes. Pat then tells him that it's not really that difficult, basically he just goes for it. That's why Pat can't really grasp the mening of the lyrics of Pran's song about the two of them. He hasn't ever had to struggle and agonise over love. Hell, he's probably never even been in love for real, besides Ink and (subconsciously) Pran.
Hearing Pran sing THEIR song on the day of the competition is clearly the first time Pat gets that the song is about him, that it truly is their song in every possible interpretation. And he can't even be there to share it on stage.
The confession to Ink really underlined all of this. In Pat's mind, it should have been this big moment, but somehow his confession just slipped out with no weight behind it whatsoever. Like Ink pointed out, it just felt like he was getting something off his chest, clearing the air and cleaning out old feelings before letting the new love come inside.
Ink also rightfully pointed out that while Pat had been afraid to lose her friendship in High School by confessing, he wasn't afraid this time around. The one that he is afraid to lose now is Pran.
Pat's confession to Pran on the rooftop was such a turning moment for him. You could feel how he wanted to clear things up between them, especially as he now realises that he has feelings for Pran. But he's never been in that situation before – after all, he never confessed to Ink when he was still in love with her – so suddenly the suave guy who always gets the girl can't even find the right words.
I love how Pran during the High School flashback described the feeling that he wanted to write about as hesitancy, being afraid of jumping in. And that's exactly what Pat finally realises up there on the rooftop, how utterly frightening it is to take the plunge, to put yourself out there and expose yourself to possible heartbreak and loss of friendship.
I fully believe that if Pran hadn't challenged Pat by asking him if it really was "friends" that he wanted them to be, Pat just wouldn't have said the words. He felt scared to confess, scared to lose Pran for good, and you can see how he struggles to answer the question, how the words just won't come out for the longest time.
I love the way Ohm uttered Pat's "no", almost like a sigh or a whisper. It was perfect.
Ever bought something and then start “seeing it everywhere” ? It’s that same phenomenon with Pat. It’s…
You said it perfectly. Once Pat could put his feelings into words, they became so real to him that he couldn't just let things slide anymore. And his tendency to act on his instincts made him start to increasingly act out. Once he calms down and starts thinking clearly, we'll see another side of Pat, I think.
I understand that some people want to wait until the series is over to binge it but wow they are missing out on…
I agree, sharing the experience with the whole community – especially since everybody have been so positive about the drama – has made experiencing Bad Buddy even better!
I think Pat Jealousy toward Pran and Wai is deeper than the normal one. Wai represent the things he want to do…
This. You could see how deep it cut Pat when Pran talked about his mom loving Wai. I loved how Pat confessed by talking about how conflicted he'd felt when Pran was sent to boarding school. Happy because he was tired of pretending, but crushed because he couldn't see Pran anymore. Those freaking parents have been tearing their children's happiness to pieces for their entire lives because of their personal vendettas and childish rivalry.
I also felt that Pat confessing so quickly was perfectly in character. He's been shown acting on instinct, and once he decides to do something, he doesn't hold back. So he was like, "I kissed him! I did it!" afterwards, while Pran seemed more like, "I can't believe I kissed him. I messed up." 😭
Ink has got to be interested in Pa. I really got that vibe when she asked Pa to feed her cake. She was clearly drawing the line at friendship with Pat as well as Pran, but she's been acting way warmer towards Pa both times they met. I wonder if Pa is as oblivious to other people's romantic interest as Pat... 🤔I mean, she was so into the whole idea of Pat confessing to Ink, I figured she probably likes Ink and wants to be around her more so to her mind it'd be great if Ink and Pat were a couple. Might be that she has a realisation of her own that has yet to occur to her...
If you don't watch it right now, the earth will stop spinning on its axis and hurl us all into outer space. If…
I just posted almost the same thing before reading your comment! I'm glad I can't binge the whole series, because I just want to keep thinking about this episode for a while.
Ho Lee Fuk. That was easily the best BL scene I've ever watched. Could anyone breathe during that? I don't even…
Ohm was so good, it was truly his time to shine. But you're right, it was Nanon at the end too, so good! They're magnetic together! I've been thinking that it's ok if they only do this series together, but after watching that rooftop scene I want the two of them to continue to act together in well-written dramas like this until they have white hair and long beards.
I feel like as long as P'Aof gets to do his thing, this series can't be ruined. He's going from strength to strength. I already thought he was good after watching some of his previous series, but now I'm 100% a fan of his.
For once I'm glad the next episode isn't available yet. If it was, I would have immediately rushed to watch the continuation, but honestly, I want to just sit with episode 5 for a little more and just...digest it. There's so many meaningful moments, so many emotions tumbling throughout this episode. I want to savour the story before moving on.
(But a few days from now, I'll probably be as anxious waiting for the next episode as after watching previous episodes.)
The way Pat softy said "No" after Pran asked him "do you want us to be friends" was just so legendary I can't…
And the way it took him so long just to get those words out! Pran had asked him before if he'd ever had a hidden crush, something that was hard to express. And in that moment, Pat knew that yes, he had.
I liked it how Pran said "You've got to stop doing that to me. We are not a thing." They played it in the first…
I think Pat's been in love with Pran since they were children, but he never really understood it completely. Now that we've seen him realise it in the current timeline of the story, we'll probably get more scenes from their childhood. Pat's still only in the beginning of understanding himself.
I almost had to lie down for a while after watching this episode... Btw, I love how Ohm live tweeted this entire episode. He's so enthusiastic about what they all created together, and it's easy to see why. This is just so well-written, casted, acted, everything. What a rollercoaster of emotions it has been, and continues to be. I'll write more once I've had time to digest the episode a bit more.
Hey guys I just re-watched the 4th episode yesterday and I noticed something, in the 3/4 part of the episode when…
I'm pretty sure that Pat was standing far enough away not to hear what they were talking about. If he'd already heard Pran tell Ink that he wasn't interested in her, why would he get so relieved after Pran said "no" later that evening? That makes no sense story-wise if all he did was make Pran repeat something Pat already knows.
To me, that scene as well as the one in the bedroom later was about establishing this sort of dynamic:
1. Showing that Pat realised all of a sudden that Pran might be interested in Ink, and that made him anxious.
2. Pat then figures that he's probably nervous because he likes Ink and doesn't want to lose Pran, who he only just reconnected with and _really_ wants to hang out with for ~some reason~ to a romantic rivalry.
3. He then asks Pran, who says no, while Pat says "yes" because _at this moment in time_ he thinks that he's interested in Ink.
4. Pat then starts asking Pran in a really convoluted way if he'd like Pat if he was Ink, but when doing so he only uses examples from their previous interactions. I think this is Pat subconsciously trying to find out if Pran likes him. His heart wants Pran, but his brain hasn't completely figured that out yet.
5. Pran just gets annoyed and shuts the question down with "I hate you". Pran right at that moment thinks that he's lost Pat to Ink, and he hurts too much to realise that Pat's second question was really about figuring out if he likes Pat.
What do you think of this analysis? Makes sense, right? :)
"I thought you said you liked someone in Architecture" Some fans are speculating that Korn said this because he's…
That's the only reasonable explanation for that line, yeah. It truly came out of nowhere, though it's possible that the writers will add context for it later. But at the moment I've made that same conclusion – Korn's fishing for information. Pat's acting very differently all of a sudden, and his friends noticed.
I must say that I've rarely seen previews so deliberately misleading as Bad Buddy, at least outside of the infamous Neon Genesis Evangelion previews (which always promised fanservice and only delivered pain and misery, ha ha).
I always skip the previews when watching tv shows. With Bad Buddy, I check them out after watching the episode that was previewed. The preview for episode 4 is the current king of misleading imo. It singled out all the most romantic and insinuating lines from their context, and made no mention of the arrival of a potential rival. When watching the preview directly after the intensely flirty and romantic episode 3, the natural conclusion would be that Pat and Pran were about to realise their mutual love. But when you watch the preview within its true context, every single line became completely devastating.
I'm not saying that it's bad! It's actually quite funny. And it strengthens my resolve not to watch the upcoming previews either. I want to go into each episode with no preconceived notions about what I'm about to watch. :)
Was I the only one who found it interesting that when Pat was asking Pran about Ink and said "wouldn't you like…
I think you understand that scene perfectly. Pat's on the verge of realising his own feelings for Pran, so he's subconsciously trying to test the waters.
Idk maybe im thinking too much. Watching last ep of safehouse felt like nanon was constantly ignoring ohm. I hope…
I had the same feeling, but after thinking about it way too much, I've come to the conclusion that it's a "cat personality" vs "dog personality" sort of thing. Ohm's a typical dog personality, as in very affection-seeking, can get very loud and has explosive energy. He always seems let down when Nanon gives him the cold shoulder (Nanon was VERY hot and cold/on and off during that last day).
Nanon is 100% a cat personality. He wants to chose himself when to go to Ohm. Ohm seeking contact only makes him push back. He seemed to become that way immediately whenever Ohm tried to be over friendly. But you could see in that last sofa talk how Ohm started deliberately giving Nanon more space, even leaning away a bit, and suddenly Nanon made a 180 and started being more warm towards Ohm. And they talked off-camera several times, so I think they're probably good.
Me and my partner actually have a similar dynamic. It's disheartening sometimes to be a dog personality with a cat personality partner (I became very affected by Ohm's situation during ep 7 because of it), but once you realise that you have to let them come to you, it works out ok for the most part. :)

I spent way to much time thinking about this... 🙈
