Yes I also enjoyed Seal of Love ; and Deliberations of Love. These two deserve to play in a longer drama with…
I haven't watched Deliberations of Love, many people including you are saying it's a good one so I will watch it next.

I have been reading the comments on this message board and I agree with the sentiment regarding the director of this series. It's a shame what the agency and production team do to these actors... I feel they are restricted a lot.

Have fun watching LYN's EB, I may check it out later. Presently, I am in the mood to see some romance centric series.

I think it will take some time with subs. Youku might add it later, but not all mini dramas do make it to the…
Thanks for the YouTube link, hope that channel provides the subs soon. I am looking forward to watching this drama.

I think at some point, youku may also sub this because from the trailer it looks mid-budget drama. I wonder why they haven't started subbing this already...
From the trailer and synopsis it looks like a good mini series however I am unbale to find this on international youku platform or youku's youtube channel... Is anyone watching this anywhere with English subs yet?

Probably it might be released later for international viwers with the subs..

A lot of them opt to wear hair extensions instead of a wig nowadays bc its less damaging to their hairline.
That's true, extensions are less damaging...

Episode 1 and 2I don't know what made me check out this series, but I am glad I stumbled onto it. Episode 1 -The…
*The very first meeting between Wei Qian and Wei Zhi Yuan established a connection because, Wei Qian saw himself reflected in Wei Zhi Yuan. Wei Zhi Yuan brandishing a pipe to defend himself reminded Wei Qian of a similar incident in his own past when he was physically abused by his mother. Wei Qian himself a youth, already has responsibility of his younger sister, Wei Li Li. Pitying the homeless kid, Qian gives ZhiYuan some food.. Then frequently he leaves him food after that... If you feed a stray animal, it follows you home... Similarly the young child Zhi Yuan follows Qian. Qian who is not in a position to accept additional responsibility, is reluctant at first, but gradually ends up giving Zhi Yuan a home.

* Being a kid himself, Qian has to work while being a student, Qian has a half-sister and another young boy to support. The struggle Qian goes through to continue his education while providing a stable living environment for the younger two kids is heart warming. I could feel the loving care he gives to both the younger people.

* In the beginning ZhiYuan is just grateful and he slowly witnesses the effort Qian puts in making their house a safe protected place for him and Lili. He too wants to lend a helping hand, to ease Qian burden... The fact that Qian gives importance to his own education as well as the other two, touched me the most... If you want to have a better life, you have to have a solid base.

*And in this setup, it was apt when Zhi Yuan takes the first step in declaring his feelings ( much later when both are adults). The role that Qian had taken on in Zhi Yuan's life wouldn't let him acknowledge, admit or confess any romantic feelings for the other first. For their relationship to transition into something romantic, first there has to be a change in their roles from guardian/ ward to a more equal footing.

* There is also strong indication of abuse in Qian's childhood that is making him wary of any romantic relationship with girls.

Episode 1 and 2

I don't know what made me check out this series, but I am glad I stumbled onto it.

Episode 1 -The first- ever family that will never abandon you.

Episode 2 - The second kind of a family always leaves the light on for you.

Saw the first two episodes, this is quite impactful in an emotional way. Sometimes a 'decision' changes your life and you change someone's life for the better. We just saw the beginning of two people's backstory and how they formed a connection. It also depicts struggle that homeless and/or abandoned kids go through. Only if everyone was willing to lend a helping hand to one person in their life, the world would be a better place. But most of the times we are so immersed in our own struggles that we subconsciously turn a blind eye to the problems outside. It takes fortitude to extend a helping hand especially when you yourself are struggling to survive. I am loving the friendship between Wei Qian and San Pang too, that is solidarity and brotherhood.

When a love connection is formed based on years of shared experiences its more about emotions rather than mere physical attraction.

Needless to say, I will continue watching the series. I know, I am hooked when immediately after the episode ends, I want to see the next one. This series definitely has done that for me. I only wish the episodes were not weekly, it seems a long wait for the next episode.

More about the first two episodes in the spoiler tag.

Sometimes you see these kinds of wig hybrids where they incorporate the actor’s hair in the front into the wig…
I hadn't noticed that detail in A League of Nobleman, I must have become more observant lately.

"Today is a special day for me, it’s my 8th anniversary since my debut! (Time flies too fast! )

First of all, I want to thank those who have supported me, helped me, liked me, and questioned me, hated me, and slandered me. These are the things that become more and more important as I move forward. Good motivation.

I have experienced a lot in the past eight years, met a lot of people, and learned a lot of experiences from them. I am really, really grateful.

I feel that I am a very lucky person. I have many opportunities to move forward boldly, and I also have many setbacks and experiences. I have become a better version of myself and can do the things I like It’s great.
Finally, I want to thank my Yiyuan babies! ! !

We have spent 8 years together. We have grown up together and spent many meaningful moments together. I am very happy. There will be many surprises in the future waiting for us to continue walking the flower path together"

Just a random observation, the ML -Zhou Yi Wei wasn't wearing a wig, his original hairline was visible in the series.

It felt quite odd to see a ML not wearing a wig in Chinese historical drama... I haven't seen any other Chinese period dramas where the ML had grown his own hair for a role....

Thank you for this review, very detailed and well written summary. Thanks for sharing your compiled notes.
Thanks for your kind words of appreciation.

It was a quick easy watch. I feel ML, Richard Li and FL, Ming Jia Jia have good onscreen chemistry. I had also enjoyed watching 'seal of love' their prior collaboration as main leads. I feel individually they are good actors and have good screen presence.

Storywise like many other viewers, I too felt the script could have been written better because the source material was quite good. A good ending could have made this a great watch.

Bingzhou ditty: (mood of the music)episode 29Young Cao An: Is Bingzhou your hometown? Di Ying/Heiyan: There is…
I think thats such a good way, to allow the dead body to become one with nature by feeding the cycle of life.

In my opinion, Di Renjie and Di Ying's fight
is where the morally grey area comes.

1.Di Renjie was very sure that unlike people in case 6, he would choose to deal with any injustice rationally and not emotionally.

2. Di Renjie wanted to arrest his brother and let him stand trial in the court for his crimes.

3.The fight started with the intention of apprehending his brother, but Di Ying kept taunting Di Renjie that made him lose his cool. Di Ying used Cao An to drive his point home. First he threatened her safety, then he let it slip that maybe Cao An had a secret relationship with him... All this talks aroused the emotions of worry, anger and jealousy in Di Renjie... His fight changed from restraining a criminal to hurting the person who hurt his lover. There was change in the purpose of fight from restraining and self-defense to retaliation and revenge.

4.In the end, Di Renjie operated merely on instinct and stabbed his brother without noticing that Di Ying held a harmless wooden sword in his hand.

5.So legally even though it would be termed as self defense, Di Ying proved his point by giving his life that human beings aren't always rational when it is personal injustice... As I mentioned in my comment, during case 6 when Diao Xiao Guan asked him the question how Di Renjie would deal with anyone who harmed his lover, Di Renji said he would arrest the person never think of taking revenge unlike the brother who killed his superior.

6. Humans are slaves to their base nature... Human beings are inherently corrupted by their emotions, it is a constant struggle to stay on the righteous path and one small slip in their control will lead the humans down the slippery slope of crime.

This was an interesting part of the series the conflicting viewpoints.

A saying that was going around in episode 29 ( belief of Heiyan) "Men are gradually enlightened. Greed, anger,…
Bingzhou ditty: (mood of the music)episode 29
Young Cao An: Is Bingzhou your hometown?
Di Ying/Heiyan: There is a special custom in Bingzhou. The corpses are left in the suburbs for birds and beasts to eat. No need to worry in this world. Make light of life and deathdeath as well as the corporeal body. This is the mood of the music." (My hometown is just a place in my memory)

Lin Fan was the leader of Heiyan. He was also Di Renjie's elder brother Di Ying whom their father, Di Zhixun had disowned. Di Ying's ideology and beliefs clashed with his father's and then with his younger brother's. Di Ying believed in the rule of the jungle, the strongest people survived and the fact human nature couldn't be changed. Di Renjie believed in the Tang code as taught by his father Di Zhixun.

Di Renjie initially intented to arrest Di Ying and hold a trial. Ironically the Heiyan leader hadn't commited any crime as per the laws of Tang(what about smuggling, presiding over gangs? ), however he was killed by his own younger brother, Di Renjie who was the staunch believer of Tang Code and dedicated to upholding the law. In the end Di Renjie's human nature, his rage, his jealous, his worries made him kill his own brother. Also in case 6, Diao XiaoGuan had taunted Di Renjie by asking him what if someone harmed his sweetheart, would he still punish the person as per the law or kill the murderer himself. At that time Di Renjie had replied that he would still follow the legal procedure.

So who was ultimately proved correct?
On Judge Dee's Mystery Feb 24, 2024
A saying that was going around in episode 29 ( belief of Heiyan)

"Men are gradually enlightened. Greed, anger, ignorance, dislike, love, desire, hatred. Will kill you. "
Di Renjie mockingly says, if above are the reasons for killing a person then only accomplished monks would be alive, rest all deserve to be killed.

Foundation of the Tang Code and Di Zhixun's teachings, episode 29 (belief of Di Renjie)

"The Strong abide by the law, and the weak live and work happily."
Human nature can't be changed but it's the hope itself. There is good and evil in the human heart. Evil, makes people kill each other. It is goodness that allows people to coexist. The code guards the goodness in people's hearts.
