Distance really makes the heart grow fonder... I feel that if Wei Qian is the body and Wei Lili is the heart then Wei Zhiyuan is the SOUL... Zhiyuan is the glue that binds the family together... What would Qian's life be like if he hadn't encountered a homeless boy looking for shelter back in the days? His life would be bleak and lusterless.

*Wei Qian: To tell her I can't return her feelings. something is off about Yuan. Wei Qian's focus is always on the well-being of two of his family members. He very casually tells San Pang that he told Feng Ning that he couldn't return her feelings all the while his eyes are searching for Zhiyuan who looked a little off, even in the midst of his celebration, Wei Qian notices Zhiyuan and his changed behaviour.
* Zhiyuan is very brave and steadfast. It was heartbreaking for Zhiyuan to have his feelings rejected but the combination of his sickness, wine and desperation made him confess.. I feel in the longer run it is better to have the feelings in open rather than suffer alone with unrequited love.
* Wei Qian cares for Zhiyuan more than he realises or is ready to acknowledge... For him to change gears from being a caretaker and provider to being a lover will take time.. Zhiyuan's distance from home may allow him to reflect more on his actual feelings.
* Poor Lili trying to get both Wei Qian and Zhiyuan to talk... Her knowing that going to the US may be a dream come true for other people but not so for Zhiyuan but unaware why two of her beloved family members are at odds and not communicating with each other.
* Zhiyuan gifting the expensive cufflinks to Wei Qian was so affectionate and loving.. Him saying he wouldn't give such gifts to anyone but Wei Qian when Wei Qian expressed concern over Zhiyuan spending his hard earned money on the 'person Zhiyuan liked'.
*Let's hope the absence makes Wei Qian's heart grow fonder and he is ready to break the mental shackles that isn't allowing him to think of Zhiyuan as a potential love interest because he still sees him as the child whom he took in and took care of... If Zhiyuan becomes financially independent and successful, Wei Qian may be persuaded by Zhiyuan to look at him in different light.

* My sympathies with poor would be bridegroom, Fu Rong... All the sliding across the room on bended knees in the world isn't gonna save him from a monster eating bride😝. Even his grandfather, the heavenly Emperor suggests that he should train himself better so that he would howl less when Shen Li beats him😅
Episode 9 * a difference in outlook of both is highlighted, Shen Li believes in killing anyone ONLY after they have committed any wrongs, however Xing Zhi is of the opinion to destroy the things BEFORE they have a chance to create trouble.
* Shen Li realises that Xing Zhi always has a plan, even though he appears to be indifferent and easygoing.
* Xing Zhi is a master liar who lies constantly to Shen Li to keep her compliant and amenable... The background music accompanying his small deceptions make the scene more interesting for the audience as if viewers are privy to his thoughts and can fondly laugh at flustered Shen Li along with him.
* Inspite of Shen Li trying hard not to fall in love with Xing Zhi, she can't help but be impressed by his abilities... Shen Li is very competitive, just because she is Infatuated with a man, she wouldn't concede defeat to him.....what he can do, Shen Li wants to do it better like use a leaf to produce a beautiful melody. Even though the leaf ends up being torn into two pieces at her hands. 😝
* Xing Zhi saying, the task is a little more difficult than what he had perceived then goes on to tickle the water seal awake😆😆

The Empress in this series doesn't have any supernatural abilities.. In fact the series strives to find logical explanation for all unexplained phenomenon...
So the empress is just intelligent, ruthless, manipulative and observant trying to gain foothold as a female ruler in the era where only Males were considered to be legitimate inheritors of the throne.

* I hated the story of Gu Cheng Jin. I felt he was a cowardly person. He didn't deserve the love of either his wife or the demon. He deceived Xiao He by pretending to love her while wanting her spirit to revive his dead wife, Shi Luo. Even if he ended up loving Xiao He and will miss her after she sacrificed herself, what good will it do for Xiao He? I wish both Shi Luo and Xioa He would have chosen a better man... Why do women sacrifice themselves for jerks like Gu Cheng Jin? The only happy thing about this mess of a story was that, Shen Li was royally irritated and expressed her anger at Gu Cheng Jin. ( will we get to see this couple again? From a brief recollection of Xing Yun, it seemed Gu Cheng Jin was also a deity in the divine realm)
* But loved the main love story, Shen Li willing to go to any extent to save the life of a 'Mortal' man she has fallen in love with. Her determination to speak her mind against injustice of her bestowed marriage was epic. Was there any special significance when she kissed Xing Yun? It seemed she extended his life by kissing him.
Still enjoying the banter between Xing Yun and Shen Li. Shen Li is very direct in expressing her feelings. She believes in total commitment in any romantic relationship.
*The story of Sanlang and his wife Yunniang was stirring, hope it doesn't foreshadow our protagonists fate.* The…
Oh I didn't know there was a similar story with same actress.
Some how I expected the ending to be different. I thought Yunniang wouldn't allow Sanlang to leave her even if it meant her short life span and Sanlang would choose to linger as ghost to accompany his wife even though he would remain lost in this world after her death. But surprisingly, the drama chose a path where both sacrificed their hearts' desire for the other.
I hope the drama also continues in a lighter vein, it would be a refreshing change from other Xianxia dramas filled with angst due to misunderstanding and miscommunication.
