I think it is alright to be wrong... Atleast we had fun coming up with wild theories and possibilities, it was enjoyable reading so many opinions....... Suspecting so many people... I feel we have given future mystery writers new ideas with our improbable conjuctures. 😝

Yeah I agree trailers are often misleading, but I did see very clearly Lu zhi was being strangled with eyes bulging and red... So I went back to see the trailer, Lu zhi was being strangled by Captain Leng... It happened in the earlier episodes but I had forgotten about it so I thought it would happen in the future episodes.

* Lu zhi has reinvented himself as Mr. xue. .....I always thought that if Lu zhi was alive he could be no other person than Mr. xue........In the past Li zhi was hesitating in executing the final plan.. But when Lu yuanbao told his brother that he would sell Lu zhi to someone else and Lu Jinxin in a good natured manner said that if Lu zhi was loyal he could remain SERVANT and ATTENDANT in their house, he could also become a Steward... That was a decisive point for him to go ahead with his plan...... He knew he would never be SEEN AS A FAMILY MEMBER.
* After the fire if Lu buyou is really alive he would want to kill all people directly or indirectly involved.
* The paper that Sangeng gave Lu zhi had county magistrate's name as the person who is Lu Buyou.....But I still feel it would be someone else... For me county magistrate was overtly suspicious so it could not be him as a mastermind... I feel Sangeng deliberately shared WRONG name with Mr. Xue/Lu zhi
*I think sangeng is playing a game with both the killer and Mr. Xue, using one as a bait to catch the other........ Lu zhi was smart but he was easily corrupted, Lu Buyou was smarter but let vengeance lead him astray whereas Sangeng is the smartest but resilient and more upright than Lu zhi and Lu buyou.
*Now it is a battle between Lu zhi and Lu buyou where Sangeng will be the winner.

However I don't think he is involved or he is not the only one involved.. I feel county magistrate's behavior is so over the top suspicious that he may at most be just a puppet... I may be wrong only one more episode left... Lets see.

Actually there was a scene in the past where Lu zhi caught a fish but started puking after seeing it dangle from the hook... Mr. Xue throwing back the fish in water after catching it...
Now I am taking it as a symbolism that Mr. Xue who is also Lu Zhi is an accomplished fisherman to catch a fish (commit a crime, plot against someone) but is not a cold blooded killer so is throwing the fish back in the water.
* Dr. Cheng and Mr. Wang were blackmailed into helping these people take over Lu yuanbao's property... * Lu yuanbao…
After the altercation in the jungle, the four people who were conversing were Mr. Xue, Mr. Zhang, butler you'er and Mr. xue's bodyguard.
We don't know what Mr. Xue's real identity was before the fire because he, Mr. Xue said after fire all of them went away from Du county for 3 years.... They returned back with assumed identities.

Yeah, it was discussed that that Dr. Cheng was already slowly poisoning Lu Yuanbao, Lu zhi asked him to speed up the process.
Even though Lu Zhi is going around blackmailing people, I don't hate his character because the actor manages to convey that this is not something Lu zhi enjoys even if he is good at manipulating people....

Lu Zhong was the mastermind 20 years ago but I feel for him it was more about getting a family, he did not kill Lu yuanbao when they were bandits because he would be left alone... But after meeting Lu zhi and Lu zhi acknowledging him as a father his motivation was to live a good life with his family... Probably the sudden appearance of Lu jinxin and his family divided Lu zhi's loyalty and Lu zhong set the mansion on fire eliminating everyone.. Or may be Lu yuanbao in a maddening fit, set the mansion on fire, he was always paranoid.
Lu Buyou and Lu zhi would be now grown men... I still believe Mr. Xue is Lu zhi.
So that leaves, Lu Buyou... He has come back to take revenge as he believes these people, Lu zhi, Mr. Zhang, captain leng, Mr. Wang, butler you'er and chen wang were directly or indirectly responsible for his family's death.
There are atleast two people involved in current killings... One an accomplice who I think could be Mr. Song because he believes in revenge and upholding justice, even though he is a judge, legal system has its limitations.... So he may approve of killing guilty people.
Another wild thought, Lu Jinxin also had a very young daughter, if she survived she could be Chun Xing .

But I am wondering why Sangeng was staring at that picture?
And why the killing spree started 20 years after the fire? What triggered it.
One thing that we know of is that county magistrate was newly appointed (mentioned in 1 episode) ... But I seriously think he stands out so much because of his overt behaviour that he would not be the mastermind.
Lu jinxin and his family seem quite upright country folks, so they were just at the wrong place at the wrong time, they did not have anything to do with Lu yuanbao's poisoning.

Song chen and his friend who had bright future were wrongly implicated, his friend committed suicide and when Mr.Song was absolved and freed, he asked the emperor to make him a judge..
He got a tattoo of yazi which covers his chest and back, [9 sons of the dragon king. Yazi (睚眦, pinyin: Yázì), the 7th son, the dragon god of battles and victory. You will find his powerful gaze staring at you from various blades or spear carvings, possibly even war banners. Presence of Yazi brings fear to the enemy forces and ensures the triumph in military conflicts.]
Yazi is supposed to be an avenger who bellows and scares people.... When asked by the tattoo artist about his tattoo design, Mr Song informed him that it was Yazi, a cruel and vengeful fierce beast.
Also in one of the opening credit scene, Sangeng is staring at the picture hand drawn by Mr. Song when he was drunk in the brothel. Mr. Song did impy that his handwriting had changed now because he lost two fingers... He drew the whole painting with his thumb... This painting may be helpful in revealing his identity.
Someone on this board wrote a few days ago that there had to be a trigger to start the killing spree... Maybe what happened to Mr. song was his trigger to mock the justice system that punishes the innocent and guilty people enjoy.... This was a sentiment also echoed by Lu zhi in one of the episodes.

These two Episodes were quite painful to watch... Loved the 'He' family... All of them protected jiuling with…
From the closing credits of this drama, I was prepared for something horrible to happen to 'He' family but I thought it would be towards the ending of the series.... It happened very suddenly, they were laughing and getting along, happy to come back home and they were ambushed, captured, tortured and killed.
