I dont really do hype dramas but some dramas actualky live up to the attention that they receive. Though its not always a homerun somw hyped dramas are intriguing and engaging. Then there are some that is a complete flop but it still pumped up to be the best thing since sliced bread.
You lasted longer with DOTS than I did, within ten minutes I dropped that drama. Never looked back. Forest is hard to sum up as I like watching Park Hae Jin dramas (discovered him in You Who Came from the Stars) but its a drama that i find it hard to take too seriously. I do like Park Hae Jin's character as he is showing some slow character development and the female lead's interaction with him makes me laugh but the story is not compelling enough. Eternal Love of Dream was never my cup of tea and the sadness of Pinocchio was just too much for me. However, I would suggest Pinocchio, personally, as it seems as the one with the stronger story and plot that might keep you interested. I would say to take breaks in between with a show that is more light hearted if the sadness is too much to take in one sitting.
Aoran and Qingfeng are both really good. But one thing that should be remembered is that Qiao En was a evil supporting…
Dang, that's a good theory about he tian xing. Im finding his personality in the real world more interesting than in the story/book world. But the way you put it where in reality Aoran is just a layer/true personality of he tian xing is more intriguing and hope they explore that once everyone is in the real world.
Ahaha, I love your commentary! I had almost the exact same thoughts watching episode 8. IMO, QingFeng and Xiao…
I like your commentary and the fact that qingfeng might just be a character in the book will make this a very sad and depressing drama as the female lead returns to the real world.
Its really strong. I rarely get SLS as logic tells me they are not ending up together. But i cannot help it with qingfeng. He is so caring, compassionate, and always believed in the female lead from day one. She never had to prove herself to him. She was just being herself and although she was weird and strange to him, he still trusted her and encouraged her. I dont know if i will be able to handle his heartbreak. He even started picking up her phrases although he doesmt know what it might mean.
The kdrama is better. I think the actress in this one isn’t that great. Maybe she’ll get better but the kdrama…
The actress is not the problem, it's the directing and writing. I cannot connect with her character and the flow of the show feels weird at certain scenes. Even the first meeting between the leads felt forced. It was if the director realized its the ending of the first episode and they were forced to have met. I can deal with cliche but this felt so forced.
Maybe its just me but this made no sense to me. I didnt watch the kdrama version but after watching this i feel compelled in trying to watch the kdrama. I cannot really root for the female lead but I feel like the male lead is intriguing enough for me to hang in for another episode.
Thank you for the hilarious article Kate and I have to say that your process of dropping dramas is a bit similar to mine, except for the Google randomized system of restarting dropped dramas. I started watching dramas in my sophmore year of high school which has been 10 years since then. I started with the BOF, Playful Kiss, You're Beautiful, and all the standard dramas most people started with. I was faithful and would watch till the end. I was tired of American TV shows so Kdramas were like a new ground where plot lines I didn't know existed. It was a shiny ground of romantic dramas and love that reminded me of most Bollywood movies that I was used to watching.
However, as the years passed and more dramas from different countries were added on (Jdramas, Cdramas, Taiwanese dramas, Lakorns, and etc) and as my personal life became more demanding the dropping of dramas became merciless. I would be more courteous and wait until the first episode but afterwards it was dropped. I would sometimes revisit the dramas and it would be evident as to why it was dropped and would redrop it again. Maybe 1 or 2 dramas that were dropped did I successfully finish but it was more so forcing myself to power through. I do fast forward through dramas especially when the villains has been overpowering the main leads excessively or the stupidity of the characters has been too much. I do find myself dropping dramas immediately if racism or any stereotypical approach about black people are brought up. It's one thing to deal with it day-to-day but I won't entertain it in the dramas that I'm watching.
Nevertheless, the one thing that never changed for me has been my affinity for romance drama (I'm a romantic at heart). However, I am more selective and picky in starting a drama.

I have no words for this.....i really dont. The manga in itself was messed up but it made sense and it had a plot. There was character growth from some of the characters within the manga but I cannot say the same for this live action. I have never face palm so much in my life and never questioned so much as to why I was watching a show so much. It made no sense. Zero. Zulch. None. Nada. Worse was the dialogue. The only slight....slight....slight redeeming feature was the chemistry with Hatsumi and Ryoki.
i love the villains in this drama. they are so smart, specially the Second Sister and the consort
The second sister reminds me more so of a witch so the intellect level to me is not that high, just very conniving and knows how to manipulate with people weakness. If that is a form of intelligence idk but i think more so using ppl naiveity and vulberability. The person im impressed (not impressed just marveling at how his character is written) with is lu yuan. They way he can manipulate and adapt to changes in his situation is really interesting. The actor was in cruel romance and he has a way of playing nutcases, its really impressive indeed.
I was following more so the characters that are villians/irritating to watch as of now. But usually in most dramas (sadly real life as well) it will usually be ppl close to the prince or someone he trusts.
I find myself skipping the real world scenes of the bitchy CEO's sister..... hahaha...
I'm just waiting for everything to implode on her. Even when they "try" to have scenes to make people feel sympathetic towards her, I cannot feel the sympathy for homicidal psychopaths. I still think the Uncle is using her and the brother to just go off at one another so he can take over the company.
Daaaayaaam Princess Consort gave me goosebumps -- even LiGe was shocked by the princess consort's steadfast decision…
It's not more so just of evil doing, it's more so WHO was affected by the evil doing. Princess Consort is truly in love with Prince Peng Cheng, even going out of the way to match her shadow with his shadow in episode 17 (or was it 18?). If the female lead was not in the picture (heck at times in the beginning i was rooting for her character and her love for the Prince) there would have been a growing and tighter relationship with the Princess Consort and Prince Peng Cheng. I don't think he would have fallen in love with her (I don't know how to put it exactly but her personality is not strong enough to fight against the enemies that is around her and the Prince) but he would have eventually leaned upon her, to a point. At this point, Princess Consort's actions are going to be based on her love for the Prince and eventually it will go down to jealousy and contempt. Jealousy at Li Ge for easily gaining the affection of Prince Cheng and then contempt (on the Prince end) as he sees him protect and defend Li Ge and she spent endless and countless of years "silently" protecting and shielding him from Consort Mother. Princess Consort's personality change will increase in the latter episodes.
This is a crack drama at the moment. It has been a really long time since a cdrama more or less an asian drama has me addicted. I was able to catch up in less than two days and waiting for new episodes seems like a long exagerrated. Yes I like the interaction and the chemistry between the leads, but I'm more into this for the female lead and the true story behind her childhood.
At this point its not hard to guess. It has to be Second Sister, Lu Yuan, and the mother of Prince Jing Ling. I'm pretty sure at this point that the consort to Prince Peng Cheng is going to eventually be part of the list as well.
When it comes to the remakes its always hard for any version to the original any justice but sometimes with a great cast, directing, and writing it can be done. However, with Taiwanese dramas, remakes are even harder. In my opinion T-dramas have a different area of humor and comedy that just cannot be replicated. The Prince Turns into a Frog was already done in China in 2011 called "Waking Love Up" and the only reason I really liked that drama was because of the main and second leads. But with most C-dramas, if the story is good, they ruin it with the prolonged episodes. Only 16-24 episodes should be enough to tell a story and anything else is making it more likely that the story is going to drag.
