I'm supposed to believe this woman has been kicking ass the whole series, is helpless now? Martial arts is designed for defense as well as offense. There are PLENTY of videos demonstrating how to get out of these scenarios by Martial artists online to view. The series "Are You the One" features a scenario where dude is taken hostage, sword to neck, but he fight out of it in episode one.

I thought it was odd when it happened the the ML in the beginning. Like they can take on multiple assassins with swords, but a knife to their throat by one person is the thing that shuts them down. It's game over?

If you like that kind of thing, fine. But don't expect me to enjoy it.

She's been kicking ass throughout the whole series. But now she can't stomp a foot, bite a hand, grab jewels and twist, bang the back of her head against his chin?

Those are just basic defense moves regular ppl without martial arts knowledge have done.

I stand by my statement that I hate when powerful women are made to be weaklings unnecessarily.

Did she forget she knew martial arts in ep. 19? I hate when they have badass female martial artists and then have them become damsels in distress as soon as there is a knife to their throat.

I hope she's is someone who can be there for him like he was there for her. I'm only on ep 14, but I was suspicious of the best friend anyway. He was introduced with great fan flare and then vanished.

I'm on ep 14 now. But this poor guy, who hasn't betrayed him other than his mom. Hell, even his sister's obsession/infatuation with the prince is a betrayal because he wants her brother dead and I bet she'll still love him even if he kills her brother. She's that desperate for his approval and affection.

So, he really has to know how to judge ppl and even still, he can't fully know who are his enemies. And he has so many because they know he's smart. He has military and intellectual mastery. He's not going to be an emperor they can control or intimidate.

She is so impulsive and stubborn. I really like her character, but she is a little frustrating. The male lead is so cunning and I love that he's 10 steps ahead of his enemies, while trying to help her and himself. This series is shaping up to be one of my favorites. Up there with Luminosity behind the Palace

True. Most series like this start with the FL being spineless and betrayed. I was happy to see that she does have a spine.

Now, she was talking big game to the prince about how she could shed blood in her own way if he dared to push her. But when it came down to her needing to stand up for herself against the emperor, she was helpless and trembling. Just useless. Don't talk the talk if you can't walk the walk.

FL is the kind of woman who would raise a punk for a emperor. She coddles him too much, shields him too much. She has no idea what he will be truly facing once he sits on that throne. The scheming he'll have to be aware of. The manipulation from his ministers. She can't hold him in her bosom forever and she needs to let the uncle teach the boy a thing or two.

Her acting for me isn't the problem. It's her overall character. So typical of these types of dramas. She is stupid, talks big, but has no plan and denies her feelings out of some misguided duty.

Really? I've seen way better. It is average at best. The ML gives it flare, but the FL is nothing special. Have you seen Tower of Whispers and Gemini? Those are really good. Echo of Self, too. All short series.

Very true. This chick is delusional as hell. She reminds me of the villains in those stories where they're jealous of the heroine and her perfect life, or what they perceived to be the perfect life and so they scheme or perform magic to steal the FL life.

Here's my issues with FL... you wrote this man begging for his help and promised to give him whatever he wants in exchange. Now, he showed up, showed out and took care of your problem. You know what he wants, so stop acting like all he wanted was some tea when he got there. She made the deal, but then wants to act like she's too virtuous to fulfil it.

She know he still has feelings for her and in his eyes, she betrayed him. He's stayed away all this time, you don't think he's bitter? Why not have a conversation like adults instead of acting like you the victim. I'm actually like the ML bold approach. And I'll say that he is petty. LOL

Also, the FL's idea of emoting is trembling like a chihuahua.

Yeah, I agree, I feel like I need to clarify what I mean, because she isn't falling in love with him. She's falling in love with the fact the he's fallen in love with her. She sees herself as getting her own Prince charming.

The only thing I'm trying to figure out regarding this scenario is how this switch-a-roo will effect the business deal the mom is trying to get. If her daughter doesn't return within a month's time... the marriage will happen--as we know it does from the first ep. At that point, what does the mom do when JW isn't her real daughter? When the ML's family discovers they've been duped into signing the agreement under false pretenses. Will there be a lawsuit to turn that deal null and void since it was based on a marriage between their families? Will the mom adopt the faker just to make it legit? I mean, it's not like they can just sneak the real one into the position, they aren't identical twins, after all. Just seems risky and messy, but I guess we'll see.

This is why I see her as one of the villains of the story, because her actions aren't completely justified. She is selfish, she--like her friend who betrayed her--wants what she feels she's entitled to. And she's willing to hurt others to make her dreams come true. That is why she doesn't feel like she's wrong in pursuing the Fiancé. She's tested the waters by asking if she wasn't YJ, would he still want her and he said yes. That gives her the free pass she feels she needs to continue further. Because now, what wasn't obtainable is and she's just being herself to get it.

She's getting the relationship using her own abilities and she wants to get the job of her dreams using her own abilities. To her, she doesn't feel like she's wrong by using the fake identity to do so, because her friend 1. told her to and 2. it's the least she could do since he betrayed her 3 times. That's how she feels.

In her mind, she isn't hurting the ML, but falling in love with him and his world to become her idea of a princess. Now, I'm only on ep. 10, but that's how I see her.

And this drama is refreshing in the sense that most series start with the female being a doormat everyone walks on. A PPL pleaser until she hits rock bottom. This one already hit rock bottom because of circumstances not of her own making and she's discovering a way out of the muck.

One of the reasons I enjoy short series is because the FL usually end up with the ML faster and I can enjoy watching the couple love each other and work together. Longer series always have the fl out stubborn mules when it comes to admitting their feelings. The ML damn near is always near death before the FL is willing to admit she actually loves him.

I think that's why I love Joy of Life so much. They took a different route to forming the couple which I appreciate. Switch it up sometimes. Not every Cdrama or Kdrama or romance for that matter needs the FL to be obstinate.

Right now, they are a liability, so it's good to know they they learn from their mistakes and become more mature and less focused on in later eps.

I think that was the case too. I also wonder if the ML believes that to be true as well.
