He talks is whispers to his despicable father in ep 13, he talks in whispers basically half the time. As to laryngitis, it was a joke. Personally I find this affectation a bit annoying, but for some reason several Chinese actors do this. I remember NiNi doing the same thing in The Rise of Phoenixes.

I stopped on 12 ep, because I am getting a premonission on how it is going to go... friends to foes and all that jazz. I will wait till it finished, IF they pull one of their idiotic fate/tragedy/nation, honor, family is more important than love , so let's kill main leads ending I am quitting watching C-dramas on air for good.

If they give this drama a tragic or one of them ambiguous endings, I will be so pissed off!

It really is amazing. It is brilliant visual storytelling, it doesn't have any padding; it is clever in mixing funny and dramatic, and it is absolutely perfectly acted, there is not a single miss in casting.

I think he has quite a range, and it must be boring for an actor to play the same type of 'historical' role. He was extremely good in Upcoming Summer, he is excellent in Nothing but You. ATSL to me was a waste of his talent though. Not all his work is available in English, but he is still very young. It will be fascinating to see how his talent develops.

Have been rewatching , this is one of my all time favorite dramas. But this time around I so want to kick that mother in her bony ass . Hard.

I think acting wise Esther can't hold a candle to ZLS . EY's acting is as fake as artificial sweetner; there is no real anything about her, she is a cartoon. ZLS is a strong dramatic actress with range, depth, and complexity. Regardless of the quality of a story I can't bring myself to watch much of anything with EY, she kills dramas for me , but I would watch almost anything with ZLS. As to statistics on dramas popularity in China, the more I see things like that, the more it shows how different local and global tastes and preferences are.

I hope she improved. I too skipped a lot of dramas because of her. I tolerated her in LFD but only just. Her whole 'cute' thing is so fake, so artificial, so studied! There is no real person with real emotions behind that fake sugary mask. . She is 28 years old now, I hope she will stop acting like a cartoon.

It is cute. Dated, full of tropes and cliches, but cute. Couldn't stand the second FML, disliked the character on sight. What a bitch.

I thought the opening of all doors went on too long, but it is a minor quibble. I love this drama.

But making her in her late 20ties would not fit the story arc at all! Besides, he is hundreds and hundred years older than she is. Even if the actress was 70, age difference between the characters would be astronomical, and I guess for some 'weird". :) I thought KGE was absolutely brilliant in this role: genuine, touching, innocent but smart, and capable of real love.
