Over sexualisation and K-dramas are galaxies apart. On the contrary, most are so sanitised they are ridiculous. I personally am sick of 28 year old virgins having their first kiss .

Almost 36000 comments 🎉 clearly, this drama has captivated a lot of people! Anyone claiming it's not good or…
"Anyone claiming it's not good or popular is probably just envious " I think you are confusing things. A drama can be popular, but it doesn't mean 1) that it is really a good piece of work. A ton of crappy stuff is popular. Popularity is not a gauge of quality, it is a gauge of the viewership. 2) if a drama is good some will still find it uninteresting . People have different tastes , nothing ever works for everybody, 3) those who find faults with this particular drama are not envious, - what would they envy exactly? do they work for movie industry and envy the success of a competitor? Some here find the drama lacking, that is what they feel. It is not nice to diss people for having an opinion that is different from yours.
I’m writing this because some of the criticism aimed at this drama is simply unfounded. Let’s set the record…
Absolutely! AND it has a sense of humor which does not depend on grotesque overacting and buffo. It is absolutely brilliant , but as you pointed out it cannot be for everyone.
Does anyone else think those white glued on fake pearl thingys on the faces look ridiculous besides me? We already…
That was the style during the Song dynasty, just google it. Historical costumes and make up don't require us to tolerate them - nobody is forcing us to wear them, but they are indicative of an era. Pearl makeup is no more weird than, lets say, 17 century mouche, or Viking tattoos, or African tribal markings, or current vouge of wearing a ring through the nose.
Eu resolvi dar uma conferida nesse Dorama meio que por impulso, sabe quando a gente vê um recorte por aí e resolve…
100%. This is hands down my favorite period drama. It is clever, fantastically acted, perfectly produced. My one and only grype it went overboard in. the last 4-5 eps, I thought, and the ending was a bit of a blah. But it is still my favorite.
I expected her to get killed but yeah, not that way. Both she and the object of her affections are two disgusting insane psychopaths, but she was pitiful he was not.
That was fun. Granted, the plot has more holes than a moth eaten sweater, most of the dialog could have been written by AI, FML wears jaundiced eye make up, and the ML slumbers more than a koala bear, but it was fun! It had some of my favorite actors in it. There was high drama, there were smug villains, there was justice. The chemistry between the two main leads was good, they are fun to watch together, though age wise casting was a bit mismatched. It is an enjoyable drama, the same way hot and spicy cotton candy is enjoyable, brightly colored, sweet, hot, sticky, and artificial. I enjoyed it, though like many C-dramas it was padded with nonsense, and nonessentials. But what’s up with c-dramas dropping the ball on endings? They either make main leads die, or go all moralistic and patriotic, or they deliver some disappointing crap like the last scenes in LLTG, or “I am back” schtick. What's up with that?
Does the Duke of Su suffer from trypanosomiasis? When he is not feigning being asleep, he is slumping in chairs impersonating a wilting flower. The rest of the time he is fanning himself. Male menopause? 😜 He looks only 20 years old, FML and her ’sisters’ who are supposed to be very young 15 to 20, look 30.

I agree with your analysis of the differences, Only I don't think it is jarring as such. Maybe to my Western eyes it is - I am trying to find a good word - not jarring, maybe flat and illogical? I think in the West we rely on a very different set of visual clues to make sense of things, so something that looks pretty may not make the same sort of sense to me as to someone who is well versed in symbolism. So as a viewer of a very stylised storytelling and acting with voices being dubbed! I struggle to make emotional connection with the characters. It is interesting to understand a very different culture though, so I appreciate the explanations.

In theater the audience is a part of the show, during Shakespeare time much more than now. It started with Greeks afaik. I agree, there was and still is a lot of of stylized things in theater and so on, but the experience was emercive and collective. With a modern drama where each in staring at a screen you basically can't get the same effect.

I agree, exactly, it is theatrical the way Chinese Opera is. For my taste maybe a bit too much, but again that is just my taste. But to my mind it is a bit choppy, it lacks flow and cohesion. - something that LLTG was brilliant at. I don't know enough about Chinese opera, maybe it is a part of the style as well?

Yes, but breaking the 4rth wall was about piano ets music. I found it to be mismatched with the Chinese Opera styling. Also theater doesn't break the wall, it simply includes the audiences into the inclosed space with it. It is the same as what you would have in a church - something that a movie would have a hard time doing.
The Double has a dynamic and entertaining script. We cannot compare the plot and the editing with Love Like the…
I agree ! I started watching because of the rating, and now I am perplexed by comparison with LLTG. In LLTG every detail makes sense, the storytelling has a rhythm to it, there are extremely beautiful scenes but the beauty is not artificial for beauty sake, it tells the story. Its plot does become a bit overboard in the last 5 eps, but it is an absolutely brilliantly made drama in every detail, character, relationships, camera work, acting , you name it. This one feels like a AI generated pretty picture with things not making much sense, kabuki like acting, so so dialog, and very lame music, that breaks the 4th wall it is so out of place. I mean it is fun, and they borrowed some stuff from LLTG, but LLTG it is not.
