Another good part about this series is how well it portrayed an abusive relationship. The control was always there because the FL was clearly afraid of disappointing him from the start. His intimidation was coated in sweet features; they were borderline threatening. But this is all this drama really did well on, imo.
The drama is solid, except for the oversimplified version of OCD in Dr Go Yoon's case. It wasn't taken seriously and used to start the romance, when they could have dissected Go Yoon's case further. Compulsions just don't vanish because of a love interest.
And Jae In and Ki Suk's romance being forgotten when the corporation became focus was the worst thing. Those two were absolutely giggle inducing, ridiculously cute. The shot where Jae In is reading a book on how to win someone's heart after learning Ki Suk probably likes her was the last we see of them. Made me sad.
This was fun! And it also has its thought provoking moments. I would have personally liked that Kang Ki Suk could have had a more consistent character arc. He was a cheerful, ambitious lawyer but lost the cheerful factor somewhere around ep. 10. Yoon Park did a great job so you don't feel the switch is abrupt.
It's good so far but it does assume some knowledge of the previous season even though about 6 months have passed.…
As far as we know, the Friend was Chairman Jang's idea. So he committed suicide after the last call. The Friend on call died, but that was just the "trace," like Detective Kook said. So the actual Friend will be revealed in this season.
Four episodes in, all I have to say is that this had all the plot points to make it a compelling mystery romance, but its dramatic cuts and cartoon-ish characters, especially the antagonists, turned it into a below average drama. There were multiple elements that could have saved this: the arc of the grandfather, the slow romance, the sweet-making. But it seemed more of a set up to a soap opera. Only the food was the strongest aspect.
I should not have gotten invested in the supporting cast. I was so excited for the little bonding the junior detectives of the team were building. They even had a little moment at Ho Gyu's house. And then they killed him. For what?
So far, the strongest aspect of the drama is the politics. The detective work isn't that engaging except for the younger two detectives. I feel like Lee Yoo Young is carrying the plot.
The weakest aspect of this drama is the romance between the main leads. Hae Joon feels more of a teacher to Yoon Young at times; it's in his gaze and actions. They did not have many moments to sell the slow burn or build the chemistry. They were great as friends.
So with time I am thinking it is Go Yoo as the doctor, not Joon Hee, because the FL said "How did you read so many books?" and "How did your life become so boring?" These things were not expected of teenage Go Yoo
