It doesn't really surprise me that his agency hasn't been giving him the breakdown of his earnings, to be honest.…
Corruption is an issue in all career fields in Korea. I taught English there for a year, and Korean teachers (including the vice principal and the principal) are only allowed to work at the same school for a certain number of years before they have to go to a new school. In bigger cities, it's 2 years, in more rural areas, it's 5. This is because bribery is very common in Korean education.

Title Love Is for Suckers Spoiler
I was expecting more from the cake scene as well. I was very sad for So Yeon, and I think that part made sense,…
I think they didn't choose each other, because they're both unsure of the other persons feelings and probably a little insecure about their own. But I still hoped they would take the plunge anyway. Now I'm just hoping they are able to work things out with each other after the show is finished.

I meant to pay close attention to the fall when they replayed it in 14 and see just how high the railing was compared to her, but I forgot. But if the railing hits her waist or higher, then the way she fell is completely improbable, lol.

How could you work for more than a decade and not be paid? Shouldn't he have demanded the payment a lot earlier?…
Koreans have a strange way of handling matters like this. Because of saving face and the hierarchical setup of the culture, talking about money has an uncomfortable connotation, even if it's your money. Companies, employers, etc. will take advantage of this to say 'You don't need to worry about it. Leave it to us.' And if you ask questions, they accuse you of not trusting them or of trying to...usurp their authority? I can't think of the right terminology to explain it, but just think about all the Kdramas set in an office or business, etc. and the way the higher ups always act. Even when it's very much your business, they try to make you feel like you're being demanding and unreasonable. This culture ends up encouraging Koreans to just not deal with it and let the company, the employer, etc. handle it.

I have no idea how the income tax system in South Korea works, but it's probably not very much like the system…
It doesn't really surprise me that his agency hasn't been giving him the breakdown of his earnings, to be honest. Korean culture is very weird on how they handle stuff like this. As for his taxes, I would imagine he pays someone to take care of that for him.

I just had a thought, possibly an epiphany (I'll have to see the final two eps to be sure), but back towards the beginning of the drama, Ji Yeon (I think it was Ji Yeon) was discussing the artist Gustav Klimt and his rocky romance with a woman named Emilie. Supposedly, he deeply loved Emilie, but he also couldn't stop cheating on her with other women. (I would say it's pretty debatable that he deeply loved her (or loved her at all), but whatever.) Ji Yeon (or whoever) talks about how he was intimidated by Emilie's beauty, etc. and felt inferior to her, but every time he cheated, he would beg Emilie to stay. Eventually though, she left and didn't come back. (To which I say, you go girl.) When we saw that scene, I thought Klimt was meant to represent Yeo Reum's ex and how he keeps hurting her even though he really loves her, and she eventually leaves him for the male lead. I haven't really though much about it since then. But it's just hit me.

Klimt...might represent Yeo Reum.

And Jae Hoon...is Emilie.

Which would mean...Jae Hoon eventually leaves Yeo Reum and doesn't come back.

Having seen the way this drama has played out so far, it fits. Of course, the whole bit about Klimt could have been a one-off and that's not what the writers are going for, but.......*insert disgruntled duck lips here*

At this point, I just want my Writer-nim and my Chef-nim to find their happy ever after together.

I don't understand why they dressed webtoon artist for the last date in such a way? Miniskirt and high boots,…
I'm not sure that the outfit choice really has a reason behind it. I did think the skirt was uncharacteristically short though. And then they paired it with boots??? The boots made it feel more like something Yeo Reum has worn, not something in line with Ji Wan's personality.

The weird baggy pants tucked into those tall white boots?! 😖
I was so distracted by that! I just kept thinking 'Those pants do not fit into those boots.'

Just a sidenote: all of the outfits of the FL have been so ugly and uncool. ML, likewise. But FL is so uncomfortable…
I've actually liked most of her wardrobe, but she also has some outfits that make me scratch my head, lol.

I'm seeing comments saying Amazon Prime has an unedited version of ep 14 while Viki has the official edited one (I watched on Viki), and my response to that is one question. Why was Amazon sent an unedited version of the episode in the first place???

I really don’t know what to say after watching ep 14… so many unexpected things happened such as the sleeping…
I said somewhere last week that the leads getting together in ep 12 made me worried, because it felt very early for that to happen given how this drama has been edited and paced so far. I'm definitely going into next week unsure of the OTP.

Their scandal is hardly a scandal. It's not even real dating so it's not like taking advantage or cheating It's…
I was expecting more from the cake scene as well. I was very sad for So Yeon, and I think that part made sense, because that's literally what Chae Ri drove her to do (then she acted like she was worried and felt bad after driving So Yeon to it). But Yeo Reum falling off the balcony was unnecessary to me (not to mention it looked fake/poorly choreographed). Apart from Ji Yeon putting the cake in Jae Hoon's face, which I kind of liked, the rest of the cake scene was boring. And Ji Wan and Chef didn't pick each other!!! This drama seems to have the gift of passing up really great story moments for reasons none of us know, lol.

Episode 13 was really enjoyable and pulled me back in to this series, but 14 was another let down. This drama has just had a strange pacing and frustrating character choices for our leads. I'm gonna watch the last week of eps, but I'm not super hopeful about them.

All I really want right now is for Ji Wan and Chef to work things out and be together, because they are the cutest and sweetest and are giving me, and this drama, life.

Who was representing Lee Seung Gi with Hook Entertainment all these years? Surely he had a manager or someone…
Unfortunately, if the artist isn't able to get this sort of information just by asking, then a manager is not likely going to be able to do much about it either, seeing as they are even lower on the totem pole.
lo_ve Nov 25, 2022
I'm not surprised to learn that the agency doesn't apparently automatically send their artists a breakdown of what they've earned each year or quarter or whatever (even though it's business 101 to give your talent that information). I am, however, somewhat surprised that Lee Seung Gi has apparently never asked for it in all the years he's been with the agency. It does sort of make sense in relation to the way Korean culture works, because they have weird ways of dealing with things like this, but still. Korean artists really need to start saying 'I'm making you money, and I deserve to know how much.' And that's not even to mention, the fact that they deserve to actually be PAID.

(I'm not suggesting Seung Gi is at all responsible for what's happening, so don't misunderstand.)

Gosh, what a pickle of a situation. He was only 17 when he apparently signed with this agency and probably had…
I don't foresee Lee Seung Gi losing work if he decides to get out of his contract. He's too beloved, and the situation surrounding Hook is too public. People know that Hook has clearly done something very wrong, and they are going to look at this situation and think Seung Gi is well within his rights to leave. There's also been a lot more awareness in recent years of just how these companies treat their talent, so I think Koreans are less inclined to be angry with a singer or actor or other talent leaving their agency due to a dispute/shady dealings. It's actually seen as a very big issue in Korea right now.
