Yea it was very strange when I read about it as well. But I guess different times and different leadership.

Very warranted though. How long will that last though? Having someone to take care of them? They are 2 people that need someone to take care of them or help them. YGH has only been able to help HHL because of his family - but what if one day his family is no longer there - he won't be able to do anything. HHL - well lets not even talk about her. She can't help anyone - only bat her eyes and say sweet things to whomever so they never leave her and help her whenever she asks but helping them? NO WAY!

The things they did to XCS not even an enemy would do that. And being selfless & bright is only problematic to jealous people - Qi Tian does not see it as an issue and respects XCS. Some people are just unworthy of people's love & friendship. And they are 2 of them. From the trailer I noticed XCS saying "longtime" and they show YGH. I feel they lose contact with each for a very long time - and I hope in the reunion we find out YGH suffered for everything he did along with HHL.

XCS has to learn life lessons. Its like how most people are in the beginning we think the world is pure and just. But as we meet more people and experience things we find that not everyone has the same mindset as us. When we want to be just there are others that could care less and prefer to be immoral. It isn't the fault of XCS but more the fault of society that u have to live like that.

I am going to be honest I am HOPING that HHL loses her career and all her shortcuts in the end just get her back to the beginning. I want her to regret her decisions - I feel evil saying it but I need that to happen. Same with YGH - I want him to lose his job. He can marry HHL but I want them to get divorced lol. I am hoping for the wrose for these 2 - after all they put XCS through - they don't deserve a happy ending one bit. No resemblance of a happy ending should happen for these 2. I need them 2 to start hating each other the moment they get married lol. Very evil of me to say but they deserve!

I don't think that at all. I actually like where the story is going - I think everyone has their opinion and analyze things differently. I personally think knowing details of YGH & HHL adds substance to the story and helps me understand what happened to the relationship between XCS and YGH & HHL. Others might not think so because they just don't care for the characters at all & prefer to have minimal screentime. Which I can understand as well since those characters are like villains. But even villains need to be explained - like in Harry Potter we didn't just have Harry's story but also Rons, Hermione & a lot of other people. (I used Harry Potter as an example since I feel most people know about it lol). But again people have different perspectives so while some might like it others might not.

But we will see what happens in the upcoming episodes but I am interested to see how XCS reacts to everything.

I think the next 4 episodes from 19 - 22 are also going to be .. . just INTENSE. I am feeling for XCS. This man really thought YGH & HHL were the closest people to him and they betraying him like its nothing. It feels like they don't even have any guilt at this point. They are so meant for each other & I really hope XCS makes it big and he rubs it in their face. What YGH did in 18 and probably going to do in 19 is just going to make me hate him SO MUCH.

Back in the 70's college exams were banned - so no one could go to college and find a job as a doctor, lawyer, architect pretty much anything that requires a degree. And doing anything for profit was seen as BAD so being a business person was a big NO. Only jobs a person could really do are small jobs like working at a store, factory, or military. But those that worked in the military it was like the high class jobs and u were seen as well off. Ye Guahua is actually from a military family where his parents have high positions and u can tell how well off he is and has a lot of money to spend compared to everyone else in the story. XCS even though he has a father in the military his situation is different because at that time there was a rift between parties.

The rift in parties is the reason why not everyone could enlist - they had a background check to make sure that u followed the party that they wanted and not the other side. So, pretty much have loyal soldiers that only follow their commands and not someone else. That is why it took so long for XCS to be able to enlist because of his fathers situation and his background check just not getting approved in a snese.

I feel that is the gist of it but I might be wrong in some details. The time period was interesting - there were a lot of restrictions from the government where they looked down upon anyone that was educated and smart. I think they wanted people who would mindlessly follow and didn't like the idea of anyone having their own ideas.

I think the last 2 episodes might have dealt more with YGH & HHL compared to the previous episodes but I think it is to showcase the turning point of them no longer seeing XCS as that man from Beijing who was able to offer them everything they wanted. Instead saw them as someone they could exploit.

I rewatched the episodes and majority of the scenes are XCS related - YGH didn't have that many scenes like he did in 17 & 18. Previous episodes was him being a background character where I was confused if he was even the 2nd ML because even CHJ was getting more screentime. But lets see what happens. Sometimes it is harder to see what the scriptwriter wants because we are watching 2 episodes/day besides for binge watching it. So we have more time to analyze each episode and because we don't have the next episodes we question where it is going. But lets see. I am excited to see XCS's journey after the army. And hope he succeeds and rubs it in to all those that hurt him.

Xiao Zhan's acting in episode 18 was just incredible. When he was getting his foot on that explosive - the fear his face showed. Absoluetly amazing. I feel he immersed himself so deep into that role he really thought it was an actual explosive.

Lol, that is fine we have different views of how we depict what the scriptwriter is telling. Which is what makes dramas interesting - when people have different views.

I can see ur point but I think the story still revolves mostly around XCS and his life and the people around him. I just think, sadly, that the 2 people we don't like are a major part of his life growing up so therefore we have to get their story as well and see how they betray XCS after all the stuff XCS did for them. I think once they exit his life - their scenes will probably decrease by a lot. But I think their betrayal probably will mold him and change him in the future. And I think the scriptwriters want to show what kind of man he was and the people that he deemed friends before and after the army. But lets see lol. Even a few minutes of HHL & YGH get under my skin at this point lol. Hoping they leave ASAP. Rather see Qiang Tian & Duan Lei.

Good riddance indeed lol. He can have her - please TAKE HER. They deserve one another.

I have a bad feeling that he will steal the credit from XCS - from the trailer I remember he says "long time" & he is aged considerably & YGH looks surprised to see him. I feel that they lost contact and I feel there probably was a reason for that to happen. He must have done him dirty - I just don't trust YGH and wouldn't put it past him to do it as well. I hope he prooves me wrong and does the right thing. But we know HHL would applaud him for taking the shortcut.

I understand HHL for picking YGH - but where I dislike her is that she didn't pick him right away. She knew XCS situation from the start - he never hid it from her. But because she loved him she didn't want to give him up and made it harder for him as the drama progressed. She could have just told him - NO. And he could have moved on and tried to get past her. Instead she wanted to have both mens affection which is disgusting in my opinion. I really hope XCS makes it big and she can see all the things she missed out on. Hope her mother survives that long as well to see it happen.

The only thing I am glad about is that she at least gave the money back - I was afraid she would keep all that money for herself. At least he didn't spend all that money on her. She doesn't deserve him 1 bit. Unlike YGH & HHL he actually is progressing through hard work and not some shortcuts that eventually they will have to pay the price for (hoping that happens soon as well). --- I think the medical fee scene was a turning point for even her. She realized that YGH could support her a lot more than XCS and I think they were bound to break up even if XCS didn't get injured. However, I do think it is interesting - what would happen if YGH was injured? He still has money from his parents but can't really support her. Idk it's just an interesting "what if" situation lol.

I feel for XCS as well. It hurts to know that he really cared for 2 people with all his heart with no disdain at all. That even though he knew his best friend was still trying to get his gf he thought of him with no ill will. He defended him even against his comrades no matter what he did. But knowing that they both are going to betray him - it hurts to know that.

I think ur right - XCS will feel bad that HHL has to be with a disabled person and he will initiate the break up. ANd besides for saying "no I will stay with u". She will say some stupid stuff to make herself feel better about walking away and never look back. Next 2 episodes are going to make me want to throw something at my tv lol.

If this drama had breaks I would lose it lol. At this point I am watching the previews before the episode because I NEED to know what happens. It got me hooked lol.

But I think that is what the scriptwriter wanted. If u think about it - its the story of XCS. Yes the injury happened to him but at that moment he cares about his friendship and HHL. So, when the viewers are watching we of course see from his perspective. To him, the injury wasn't a big impact (YET) but the fact that YGH was fine and HHL knows he is safe. Even with that injury he was still joking around and being the old XCS without skipping a beat. So, of course, to the viewers we wouldn't talk about the injury but about his relationship with YGH & HHL - since that is what he deems important at that point as well & what he is mentioning.

The injury was important but I think the story as always been about how people change as u move forward & how XCS deals with it. Even Qian Amao kept foreshadowing it - that childhood friends aren't forever and they can betray u. And I think this ordeal sets up for that circumstance. What would happen to the people around XCS when HE is the one that needs help and it's not the other way around? Who will be by his side? Who will betray him? Will his loyalty that he gave all those years be repaid or will he be abandoned by those people that he gave everything to? And who are his true friends? I think that is what the scriptwriter wants to show. That HHL & YGH were the people he knew the most & cared for but abandoned him when he needed them the most. Injury is nothing more than a cause but the effect is the relationship he has with the people around him. XCS when he was in Beijing was this big shot that everyone wanted to be around because they could get something from him - but now he is disabled, no longer in the army and can't give what he used to. So, will those same people be there? The loyal ones like Qiang Tian will be but we know YGH & HHL will not & that is what is most disappointing. YGH was the closest but instead he was the first to betray.

I think we saw this coming though. Qian Amao kept telling XCS that YGH would betray him and that childhood friends don't always stay with u but tend to drift apart because of different paths u take. And sadly it is becoming the truth. YGH was always jealous of XCS and he even admitted to it while XCS always saw their friendship through rose colored glasses and would never think anything negative about YGH.

In the end XCS was wrong and Amao was right. His friendship with YGH was never supposed to last because they are 2 different people. Honestly, YGH & HHL deserve each other because they are very similar. They both are willing to take shortcuts to get to a higher level without caring about others around them. I used to think YGH wasn't as bad as HHL but clearly that was wrong of me entirely - he is just as bad or maybe even worse. Funny too because YGH's sister even told her to her face that she has a tendency to use people and the only reason she didn't let go of YGH is because of the things he can give her.

I am just hoping he doesn't steal XCS's merits because YGH did nothing to get them - it was all XCS. His stupid ass stepped on a land mine and was so anxious that XCS had to tell him to be calm and pretty much baby him the entire time. Him being the platoon leader of an elite squad is probably the biggest joke of this entire show (I guess that is why people with connections shouldn't always get the job). He better not disappoint me any further by stealing the merits or I will be SOOO MAD! I already hate him regardless but that will just cement it for me.

I think the center is still XCS - it's just that people feel what has happened to him is unfair and that he deserves better from HHL & YGH. At least I do. I think after all that he has done he should get the recognition he deserves for his heroic deeds. For someone else to snatch it from him while his dream was also taken from him is just cruel especially from someone he called a friend. No matter how jealous I was of a friend I would never do that to them especially knowing that it could have been me laying on that hospital bed & they saved me.

If it wasn't for XCS - YGH would be dead. The man was completely frozen when he landed on the mine and it was XCS that told him to breathe and calm down. He was unable to think during that moment - don't know how he became a leader (well I do its because of his connections). XCS was calm and collected and was able to free him while also making sure his mission was secured. So, I really hope YGH sets things right and tells everyone the truth because XCS deserves that after everything he has been through & he is the one that did THEM. His dreams lost and the people he cared for the most without hesitation are the same people who are adding salt to the already open injury.

After seeing the upcoming episodes and what Ye Fang said about HHL - I agree with her a lot. HHL just seems to not want to make a decision and just has both boys on a fishing line and unable to throw the other one back. She doesn't make a firm decision because she wants to keep XCS for love but keep YGH for his money and power and prestige. The fact she complained to XCS about how he should think about his actions could cost YGH his prestige - u could tell she took way too much care for that than she should. It isn't even about caring for oneself - she is just making both boys lose their minds and friendship because she can't make a decision. If she just made a deicison it would be so much easier but she is selfish to the bone.

I better not see her after they break up anywhere around him. She doesn't deserve him and I am hoping he makes it big so she regrets it FOREVER!!!

During a lockdown it is impossible for people to leave - so for them to do a solo scene they would have to send in film & equipment and someon to direct. If they did that - those people would also be in lockdown which would hinder the WHOLE project and cost them more money than their budget would allow. And this is mainly a male centric drama as well so probably thought it best to cut her scenes and work around it. It just sucks that she was filming another drama as well and was caught in the lockdown in the process of it - but can't blame the screenwriters for that.

I might not agree with Ye Fang with everything but someone finally told HHL what most of the viewers were thinking about her. It is the main reason why she never really shot down YGH's affection for her because she loved the support she got from him too much. Yes, before she entered the army she was able to tell him once in a while but the moment she entered the army it never happened again. She loved the shortcuts she was getting by having YGH's affection. That is also the reason why YGH never stopped caring for her - if she was firm with her decision he would never think he still had a chance with her and continue doing all those things for her. She wanted both love and riches - XCS being love and YGH being the riches. However Ye Fang is right and eventually she will have to pick one - but I don't think they will be unhappy with their marriage since I believe YGH and HHL are both selfish people and share the same ideas.

I understand where ur coming from but since u watched upto episode 3 in the later episodes u will find that XCS actually backed off. He liked her because when he saw her in person he thought her backside reminded him of the girl in the library (he only saw her from the back). But even then he didn't go for it which made HHL mad because she already started to like him. Even YGH's sister told XCS not to back off and just give YGH the win because that will ruin his friendship more than him dating her. Pretty much everyone was telling him to go for the girl so I don't see it as betrayal when he was doign his best to be loyal to his friend. But everyone around him was saying its okay. At the end, u cant change who the girl likes and she was the one who gets to choose who she wants to end up with.

Ahh that is fine lol. I can understand that this drama might not be for everyone - hope u enjoy Gone with the Rain though 😊

So, some people answered this but the lockdowns at that time lasted way longer than needed to be. Lasting for almost half the filming time and I believe she also was filming another drama as well at that time (Miles to Go). They couldn't really do anything about the lockdown since it was government approved and they can't change it. Only thing they could do is try to work around it - the filming was already longer than expected because a lot of the sites they wanted to film were under lockdown as well. It was just crazy at that time - so many places were just under lockdown.

XCS fell in love - and at the time he thought it was the girl he met at the library. It was never betrayal because he got permission from his friend. YGH told him that they should both try and see who wins. The girl chose XCS - not really XCS's fault since he can't force someone to like him. He never crossed the line before that and even gave in by leaving them alone. So, I dont think XCS would betray his friends & tries a little too hard, in my opinion, to help them. Which I feel is his biggest fault - its good to be nice to ur friends but to constantly hurt urself or make urself unhappy for that to happen is just strange to me. But that is just my opinion - u have a different take which is fine but YGH still going for HHL is also a betrayal to his friendship. The fact he still cares for her and clearly shows his feelings have never changed for her in my opinion is also a form of betrayal but I dont fault him since its just being human.

Everytime QA mentions that childhood friends drift apart and they could betray u - gets me afraid that maybe YGH will betry XCS. I hope that doesn't happen and that they stay close but I feel like something will happen to drift them apart. Too much foreshadowing at this point.
