Really happy that Gao Liang is finally helping Gu Yiye. I think now that the love triangle is gone they can actually try to help one another and be friends. I think it was great of GL to actually help GYY with his situation with A Xiu because clearly GYY is no romantic (can't read between the lines lol). I hope it stays this way because I think I prefer it when they can just get along rather than GL constantly attacking GYY because of JNZ.

Lol, I totally get it. Like I said it just this feeling I can't get past that I don't want them to end up together. I think its a ME thing lol. A Xiu is a great character and definitely someone that is likeable and would probably be a great emotional foothold for GYY. But I feel that could also be done as friends and he can still help her u know. I just would have preferred him to have his own love story and not one connected by his squad leader who he clearly feels an immense amount of guilt towards.

Oh, trust me. I don't think GYY should end up with JNZ either lol. I think they aren't compatible with each other especially when GYY was down and just filled with grief - JNZ wasn't really able to help. And her words, if anything, made things worse for him. I think he wanted someone to be understanding of his situation rather than telling him to move on. I mean, JNZ was patient & waited for him. So, I don't want to blame her too much its just the compatibility was not right between them. I guess for me I feel someone like Hu Young would have been a good option. She seemed to understand hsi situation and was mature. Like I said, I just think I just wanted him to have his own love story void of any grief or guilt. Just something of his own. But I also know that I might be unreasonable lol.

I don't understand why people think that if someone hates a fictional character that it means we hate the actor. That just isn't true. No one has mentioned the actor even once just mentioned the fictional character. This idea that we have to love every main lead or every character is just strange to me. Like when u watch movies or tv shows there will always be a list of characters u like, dislike & are neutral towards. Nothing wrong with that.

When people watched Game of Thrones - I think like 99% of people probably hated Cersei Lannister but the actress who portrayed her did a REMARKABLE job playing her. Probably one of the best acting jobs from the entire show - but I still hated Cersei Lannister but LOVE Lena Headey (the actress). So, u can differentiate between the actor and the role they play - theres nothing wrong with that and thats what all viewers do.

Same with Leonardo DiCaprio. I LOVE Leo. But I am not going to say that I loved the character he played in Wolf on Wall Street. Because that character was just. . . .not a nice person. But Leo, like always, did an amazing job portraying the character. But, Jordan Belfort, the character he played, was just ughhhhh - like I won't love him just because he is the main character or played by my favorite actor when he clearly has so many flaws in his personality. So, please, don't think that because we dislike Gao Liang that means we are hating on the actor. It just means we dislike a fictional character that he is portraying - if we watched another one of his tv dramas we probably would like the character he played. Has nothing to do with the actor and all to do with how Gao Liang is written.

And same with Xiao Zhan. If the roles were reversed and he played Gao Liang, I would still dislike Gao Liang because he just isn't written well. And I think all Xiao Zhan fans would agree. If one day he decides to play a villain or something I don't think everyone is going to love the character - they might love the way he acted him out but the fictional character itself will probably be disliked. So, please don't think that we are hating him or disrespecting your idol. But u have to understand we are viewers and we are allowed to have some say in how we feel towards a fictional character and his actions especially if it doesn't appeal to our standards. There is a differentiaton between actor & the characters they portray. So, don't take it to heart if people don't like GL it has nothing to do with ur idol. and just the writing for the drama.

I agree with ur comment. I think GYY breaks up with JNZ because he doesn't want to burden her while knowing that she already moved on. And he knows him having to take care of another woman would hurt her even though she might not say it.

But, I am still not a fan of GYY marrying A Xiu to be honest (when they do). I know people want them together and I can honestly see why. BUT, I still wished it was someone else, u know? Like someone he slowly falls in love with; without guilt being the starting point of it all. I understand that it happened in his life and it can't be changed but idk knowing that he has to sacrifice so much because of it just hurts. And I feel if he marries A Xiu its just going to be a constant reminder to me, the audience, that he could never get true love because of all the guilt he had.

Idk maybe I am just being a romantic or something lol.

Yea, I mean it kind of was similiar to the doctors but they only got used to it because of how many cases they had. Her, on the other hand, it was her first time and she kind of just was cool about it. Like the guy came in all distraught and she was still eating like it was nothing. Definitely strange to me - but maybe there are some people like that who just don't care about those things. And are strong mentally that they can just overlook it and get past it.

YUP. It was one of the many dresses GL gave JNZ. I was a bit disappointed when I saw a post on it showing how it was the same. And that too when GYY told her to wear the dress he gave her. Why would she go on a date with GYY wearing another man's dress -_-? So disappointed!

Lol. idk something about the fact that he always has to constantly lie just bothers me. Like bro, must u ALWAYS lie lol. Can't u just tell the truth once & always a lie making him out to be the strongest but than starts running away scared and hiding behind someone so they can save him. Luffy is my #1 and than Zoro is #2. But my #3 is hard to say lol - its like between Law & Sanji. Law just seems so bad ass u know - I just love his character lol. And his back story hurt me so badly. Oda really hurts people with those tragic back stories. Always outdoing the next.

Hu Yang, just wait for dumb GYY to get his head on straight. He will come to u once he figures his end out. If she has kids I am just going to crawl into a corner and cry (JK lol). But I will definitely be disappointed because I sitll have some hope that maybe he does end up with her - that he never really marries A Xiu and just takes care of her lol. Got to hold on u know lol.

Yea, I thought maybe he would get into the academy on his own. But nope, it ended up that he got help from the division commander again. I feel tehy should have let him take the test like JNZ - at least allowed it to seem like he wasn't getting carried u know. But, of course, it came down to him getting favors frm the higher ups and just getting all the benefits. SMH!

To be honest, I know people say there is a brotherhood between Gao Liang & Gu Yiye or that they are great friends. But I just don't see it. I feel they kind of tolerate each other but aren't really that close. I feel the love triangel kind of prevented them from ever being true friends. So definitely agree with u that maybe the romance should have been separate. Like give them 2 different people that they fell in love with from the beginning. Maybe it would have been better for the overall dynamic.

I think before the war there wasn't much romance. It was just hints here and there. And people who just had an unrequited love. But I think once the war ended that is when u see more people like go for their crush - could be because they experienced so much loss that thhey kind of wanted someone to be with & share their pain or just not feel lonely.

Trust me I wished I didn't hate him - its very weird to me when I hate a main character in a drama/anime because it just so rare in general (and because he has so much screentime). And before I watch a new episode I try my best to find something I like about GL. But something comes up and I just have to smash my keyboard and write something about how much I loathe the character. I just feel whoever wrote his character just did him dirty where its hard to like him.

Idk if u ever watched Star Wars but it just reminds me of when so many people hated Jar Jar Binks because he was just annoying. It wasn't because people wanted to hate the character but because of how he was written (and voiced) - very poorly that it became like one of the worse films in the franchise. And thats just how GL feels to me. Someone that wasn't written well - not the fault of the actor but the directors instead or whoever wrote him to be honest.

And YES I completely agree! I wished Bai Lu was actually the Second FL at least for this drama - give her more screen time!

Wow, that is actually a really good correlation to be honest. The fact that there are so many things that got in between GYY & JNZ that it prevented them from actually being together.

Yea. I think that GYY probably tries to help A Xiu but doesn't really marry her. I don't think she would want it that way anyways because she would feel guilty because she knows his reasons for marrying him. But I feel eventually she will grow to love him and care for him and decides to marry him after all. And I think GYY will do the same - once he figures things out in the acaedemy and realizes that A Xiu helped him through it. He probably will think she is the one for him to get far in his career and in his private life.

It is interesting to see how fast they expect people to get over war though. Like it was maybe a few months and stome people weren't even affected by it. I mean I understood the doctors since they probably have seen death so much in just 1 hour that they had to get used to it. But I did think it was weird how JNZ wasn't affected by all the death around her at all. Like when the guy came into the tent and asked if there was a radio that never died - she just kept eating and thought nothing of it. So, that part was strange to me.

His father really gave him that emotional support he needed. I feel he kind of felt better once he talked to him and knew what he needed to do to be able to move on from this grief.

JNZ, I feel, does love GYY. Even when GYY was distancing himself from her she constantly wrote him letters and try to stay in touch with him and even went looking for him - so I don't think she really drifted away from him. I think that was GYY entirely. I think he just couldn't do it anymore - be with her when she had already moved on. And he probably still loves her too and probably why its so hard for him to leave her. But he knows that his grief will only pull her back and he feels obligated to take care of A Xiu at this point. He knows that everyone that was at war has slowly started to smile again and be able to enjoy their lives while he can't move past it. And I think he just can't hear people just tell him to move on when that just isn't something he can do. It's like hearing someone tell u to smile when ur just not in the mood. Its kind of showing how there are different ways of how people can grieve: some can move on pretty quick (JNZ), some go through some form of PTSD but eventually move on (Nu Manceng), some just fall in love (the guy who came back after getting shot in the chest), and than those that just can't move past it (GYY). And I feel GYY's case is very normal hence why so many soldiers have PTSD and have difficulty adjusting to civilian life.

Completely agree. I think that is what GYY needed the most. Just someone to tell him that what he is feeling is understandable and not out of the ordinary. He didn't need someone to constantly tell him to move on or that he needed to live his life. And he definitely didn't GL to constantly guilt trip him about JNZ when he already has so many issues. I think no one really just went to GYY and gave him the help he needed or at least the emotional support he needed. Like when he met JNZ at the waterside & she mentioned how GYY wasn't there for him while GL was - he had to correct her and say that he was the one that told GL about the admission information after he asked his father. And he was helping her but because of his circumstances he couldn't do it directly. But the fact she just saw GL has the good guy and even said how it was her bf's job. U can see from GYY's face that he was bothered by that statement. He was not very happy about it. But he just held it back and told her the truth.

It just feels like everyone wants to be consoled by GYY but when he needed the same in return - he is sort of just standing alone on an island.

I had to come back to this post because I just saw that JNZ wore the dress that GL gave her on their date. When she promised him to wear the red dress that GYY bought her. WTFlip.

Ahhh okay. Well, I mean at the end of the day its about interpretation u know. If u don't think he is bad than thats fine - just means we see things differently. I, personally, just can't deal with the character but I can understand if someone else does - because I know my opinion is just my own lol. People are going to differ from me.

I have watched plenty of anime where I have disliked a character soo much just to find out that they are the most popular character in the entire anime lol. Like won popularity awards and ranked #1 lol. So, it is just about preference in the end and what kind of annoys u & what doesn't.

Yup. I mean I feel Gao Liang just tries to act like he is helping GYY but in reality he doesn't. He wants GYY to fail so he can surpass him. I know some people might think we are really hating GL and jsut being unfair. But, if this was a villain and not a ML than it wouldn't be seen as strange. But because GL is a ML, people think we are just unfairly claiming that he is a really bad character. But we can't just forgive him for everything he has done jsut because he is a ML - like he needs to act like a decent person or at least just a decent friend.

Well he is probably going to be very angry with GYY about the break up but we know inside he is doing back flips lol. I think he even knows that JNZ was never going to stop loving GYY if he still loved her. And that she would have never left him either - she tried once but still couldn't forget him and went back to him. So, its clear that she just loves and won't see GL as anything more than a friend as long she is with GYY.

I don't think he will give up his career because I don't think A Xiu would ever let that happen to be honest. She would probably leave and run away than let him ruin his life like that for her. So, I think he will remain in the army and get ahead but also be there for A Xiu like Zhang Fei was supposed to be there.

I agree. I would have preferred that they already had someone they loved back home - like GYY had Hu Yang and those were the people they married. I feel them having a relationship in the military does sort of ruin it because it really ruined GL's entire character. Just made him look like a self centered romantic.

I am lost. What do u mean? I think the story is more on Gao Liang or maybe equally about GL & GYY - I don't really see what u mean by how the director focuses on GYY more. There have been episodes where GYY had minimal scenes while Gao Liang had a lot more.

Well, we are just discussing about what we like or dislike about the drama. If u like GL more than GYY that is perfectly fine. We are all entitled to our own opinions & free to express them. But ur right if everyone did the same thing than there wouldn't be much to differentiate the characters from one another. But those differences is what entails us to determine which character we prefer and which ones we don't.
