I don't think people are purposefully hating on Gao Liang though - it's like any drama that has that character that just isn't doing right by others. It's like the Evil Step Mother from Cinderella getting hate because she just isn't a nice person lol. But in the case with Gao Liang he's just a poorly written character that doesn't seem to improve much as the story progresses.

In the beginning I kind of liked him - thought he was funny even though he made some foolish mistakes. But thought that was in his playful character of being sort of like the class clown and making people smile during dark times. But the drama kept progressing and his personality started just going into the gutters. Like, I understand he has a sad backstory but we all know that in a military that doesn't mean u get favors or get forgiven. But in his case he tells his story and the divison commander starts holding back tears and tries to find a way to keep him. Okay fine - that happened once we can just let it go and move on from it.

But than GL also tries to steal Gu Yiye's gf - and yes they are dating and the girl has told him multiple times that "hey, I just don't like you". I understand some people say to fight for what u believe but ur in a military and one of ur brothers is dating this girl - do u think its fair to just steal her from him because u can't get over her? And he tried his luck and failed so why is he still being so selfish? And the way he tries to steal her just feels like a teenage girl in high school - like him trying to get GYY's crush into the middle of it and trying to create drama. It just doesn't sound like something a soldier would do - but he is doing it.

Than GL makes more mistakes and this time it's his idea. He admits his mistake - thats good of him. BUT, the division commander AGAIN shows favoritism and gets him off his punishment. So, now it's the 2nd time and trust me there will be a 3rd time where GL gets off from being punished because of a mistake he made. And the 3rd time is actually a crime but he gets a slap on the wrist and is forgiven like it was nothing. Imagine if ur working at a job where if u made even 1 mistake u could get fired or get a pay cut but Person B who made 10 mistakes has not even gotten a single pay cut or gotten fired (when he should have). Instead they get vacation time and has a nice job where there workload is less compared to ur own. U would also hate that person, right? That is basically GL - he makes mistakes and besides for getting punished he works as a secretary for the divisional commander. So, he doesn't have to work & train like the other soldiers. Who are basically killing themselves but not him because he made a mistake so of course he should get rewarded -_-. Again just doesn't make sense for a soldier and for a military whose job is to make well rounded recruits who should all be treated fairly. I mean the whole thing about Gu Yiye was that he came from a military background so they didn't want to show him favoritism but they are instead showing it to GL. Like huh?

In the end, I find nothing wrong with disliking a character because of his personality. Being a Xiao Zhan fan shouldn't mean I can't dislike a character because they are inconsistent with what the story is about. Just like if u love Gao Liang and I don't - that is also fine. After all some people like Superman while others like Batman - it is all opinions in the end and what u find likeable in characteristics might be different from my own. But I feel the reason why most people don't like Gao Liang's character has more to do with inconsistency and just poor writing and less to do with trying to like GYY's character more. After all I think a lot of people like Zhang Fei & Pingfan & the other recruits because they actually act like soldiers. While people dislike the division commander because they feel he shows nepotism and dislike GL because he is being favorited while also being very selfish and only caring about his own love story with the girl (that he still hasn't given up on after being rejected 3 times). I mean at this point, I feel people have to tell me why I should like the character because I can't even find a single trait of his that is likeable.

I agree. I feel Gao Liang is just really poorly written not because he isn't played by Xiao Zhan but because he doesn't make sense. I have seen some military movies and when a recruit or soldier does something against the rules they do get punished. But with GL case he hasn't really gotten punished and instead it seems he gets rewards in a sense. I just don't see a soldier getting that kind of treatment just because htey have a sob story to tell.

Yea, Nanzheng needs to decide if she wants to be with GYY or not - like she just hugs him at the end of 17 like ummm excuse me didn't u guys break up? And GL constant need to pressure her into dating him - like oh boy. Talk about guilt tripping much

Hahaha it seems like we became fans of Xiao Zhan's durign the same time as well lol. Because I also found out about him during the pandemic and just fell in love with him after seeing some interviews of his. He felt so down to earth and different from the typical celeb - which is funny because I was never a fan of anyones before. I mostly just loved anime (OP mainly but a couple of others lol). The OP reference where he puts his 1 arm up right. Reminds me of when the gang from OP before they left Alabasta would put up their hands to show Vivi where that X mark used to be.

RIGHT? Their smiles seem so similar - like they got that pure smile where it doesn't seem like they are planning anything but just sincerely happy. Luffy my favorite but I also love Roronoa :D! Dumb blockhead that always gets lost lol

Yea, I really liked A Xiu's character. She seemed like a type to be understanding of the soldier life and didn't demand much either. But. . . I still kind of wished GYY had his own love story u know. I feel A Xiu already had hers and I want one that is just GYY not one out of loyalty or brotherhood but just his lol. That's why I still wished it was with Hu Yang. U know he starts to care for her or something - I am a sucker lol.

The plot is picking up and I am loving it. I also really am enjoying the scenes with GYY & Zhang Fei. I feel it's going to start gettig into the deeper material so I guess get our tissue boxes ready lol

That's completely fine. Not every drama is for everyone and due to it being a military type it is probably harder to get into - not everyone might be in love with the genre. Don't force yourself too much. I know I didn't think I would love it but I am actually really into it - but I have previously liked military type movies so that might be the case lol.

That part did confuse me lol. Sometimes it felt like they were married but they do keeo saying fiance so yea lol. But yea I think ur right they are officially married - still are just engaged.

Exactly. Like this is the military that is something they should be totally against because it ruins the dynamics of the team. But nope the division commander for some strange reason loves GL. And it isn't like its a unique story - there are probably a ton of soldiers who are orphans or lost someone from the war. It just seems weird that they make it seem like he has soo much important just because of his sob story -_-.

OH, so I always have some complaints about Gao Liang in my other comments. AND this comment is no different LOL. Gao Liang stalker self just watching GYY and JN try on dresses - like ummm creepy much. And the thing that bothered me the most is that he got all the money from his fellow soldiers just to buy a ton of dresses for JN - it was like he was trying to 1 up GYY or something. Dude it isn't that serious like let it go. I honestly thought he was doing a good deed and collecting all that money for Zhang Fei because he got married. But nope find out it was for his own selfish reasons - I mean lets totally forgot how GL was about to screw him over from getting promoted because he wanted someone else to get it. But he gets all the dresses for JN (like 10) but JN doesn't want to accept it because she doesn't think of him like that (Deja Vu anyone? I know we saw this one before?). But of course not before he guilt tripped JN AGAIN - how many times must he get rejected before he gets the hint? I feel this was the 3rd time where JN told him that she was not interestd in him more than friends. But than he started being mopey and sad and she caved and finally said yes to receiving his dress -_-. So, is she going to just marry him out of pity? Because that is what it feels like at this rate.

And the division commander and his bias self lol. This dude is supposed to be in command of many soldiers but he is having a moment of how he doesn't want GL to enter because he doesn't want him to get hurt because he seems like a son -_-. Pretty much confirming that he has a bias for him and does not treat him like an actual soldier. I feel he treats him better than he treats his own daughter -_-.

Episode 16 & 17 were so good - especially the story surrounding Gu Yiye and Zhang Fei. I love the relationship they have as mentor and student - and u can tell they care about each other as friends. The way GYY went to get a dress for his future wife because he trusts GYY's judgment and thinks he will pick the best for his girl. Ahhhhh.

GYY. When he slapped himself because he knew that the prank he pulled resulted in Zhang Fei from seeing his wife longer before they headed out to war 😭😭😭😭😭😭. But Zhang Fei didn't blame him because he knew that they were just doing what recruits do when someone gets married. It wasn't like anyone knew that the war was going to begin. But GYY made it upto him and was able to let him see her 1 last time with a grand exit. It was so sweet. The relationship GYY has with Zhang Fei is a true brotherhood - I truly love them. But when Zhang Fei tells him "you have to promise me 1 thing. You must not die before me" 😭😭😭😭😭😭 (If you know you know). I am not ready for the future episodes.

Ahhh, we met A Xiu and her personality seems very sweet. Someone that knows that a soldier has its duty so doesn't seem to be immature at all. It was a great 2 episodes for GYY's story. I really liked A Xiu and Zhang Fei's relationship - it was sad to see them having to leave each other so he could go to war :(.

I still want Hu Yang!!!! Like I saw A Xiu but Hu Yang is the one! She is understanding and is also mature. I hate it here lol. I know it's not goign to happen so I can't even hope for it!

Ahhhhhh - One Piece is everything to me too. Damn how we got so many similiarities lol. I started One Piece like 15+ years ago. I think it was like 2004 when I was still elementary or something when I first watched the first episode and since fell in love with the show lol. Hahahaha, solid reason for adding me lol. Who wouldn't want to see Luffy's face lol.

Yes, we both love Xiao Zhan & One Piece - BEST TASTE :D. I thought that was pretty cool too that he knew about One Piece especially since it is soo long (it's at like 1000+ episodes & forgot how many chapters in the manga) - I don't know if he is still caught up though lol. His smile sort of reminds me of Luffy's as well. They both got that infectious kind of smile!

Its liek whenever he is on screen he is an errand boy or making food or just flirting with JN. Like excuse me did he forget that he was a soldier?

I tried to like Gao Liang in the beginning because I didn't want people to think I was being biased or something because I am a Xiao Zhan fan. And even forgave his clownish behavior in the first few episodes. I just chalked it upto him trying to lighten the mood or him being the prankster. But when more episodes get released hte more I want to punch him in the throat. Especially the ways he tries to get with JN. Calling him a creepy stalker would be putting it mildly. This man follows her, gets into her business, and now has been rejected 3 times by the girl. ANd than he guilt trips afterwards . . . like oh brother. Haven't we see this already - like can he honestly just take a hint and stop bugging her.

I have no idea. I thought he would have become something but in the new episodes it just feels like he is still just a secretary that now can go back ot being a recruit because the war started. I feel JN's father is so biased this man legit called him his son lol. Like dude, tell me ur bias without telling me ur bias much? I don't understand like he does know that there are thousands of soldiers who he is commanding & him showing favoritism will not sit well.

Yea, if GL's character was written better than maybe he wouldn't be so bad but I feel as every new episode gets dropped he just gets worse. Just look at 16 & 17 -_-. I have lost faith in him to be honest.

I feel they put Gu Yiye on this pedestal that he has to be the best and have no flaws because if he does anything slightly wrong they will tear him apart. While with GL it's like the man could commit murder and he can get away with it. It's starting to really bother me. Someone said that if he didn't have the protagonist halo than everyone would hate him - and its so true. If he was a supporting role or even a villain than I doubt people would try so hard to defend his character (or lack of in his case).

Idk how they can even put GL above anyone when he is literally a secretary - like no offense to secretaries but dude is supposed to be a soldier. I don't know where his motivation went of wanting to be like his brother. It's so weird to me. And at this rate I feel everytime GL makes a mistake he just gets away with it because the commander is like in love with him. I find it so funny that the reason people disliked GYY was because they thought he was getting favors for having a military dad but it seems liek GL is getting it from the commander guy. SMH!

OH u also like One Piece?
U & ME = BESTIES than lol. One Piece is the LOML (greatest anime ever) and so is Xiao Zhan (sexiest/cutest man ever).

I feel GL is no longer who he used to be from the previous episodes. If anything he just got worse. I feel the person that was honorable but still do dumb stuff is kind of gone. I mean ur probably right and the fact that he never has gotten punished for any of his mistakes probably has given him a false sense of security where he believes he can do anything he pleases. I mean he committed a crime by getting someone else promoted and received absolutely no punishment. Dude just went and got food with Zheng Yuan & his crush. I also don't see what kind of incentive he has to even return to being a soldier anymore - dude is living his best life right now. He doesn't have to kill himself training, like the rest, & he can still go after the girl whenever he has time (which he has a lot of lol).

GL story is really BAD there is absolutely no character development - well actually sorry there is some. But not in the right direction. I don't see how he can be a good soldier or will be in the future.

I was thinking the same. I am still enjoying it because even though there are some characters that are just ehhh or don't make sense. I do really like GYY and Zhang Fei and the other guy that is teaching the "trash" company. They actually seem to be true soldiers who are trying to become better and improve. While I feel the other story of what GL is doing just makes no sense. I am guessing they are trying to show 2 sides of the military. The 1 side is the soldiers who train and make do with what they have - GYY side. And than the other side is how the commanders try to improve the means of making the training better. However, the 2nd side that has to do with the higher ups is just falling short. I feel its better for them to make that storyline a smaller portion compared to the other.

When the story was more focused on training - I thought it was great. But lets see what happens - I think they should make GL return to training and stop him from being a secretary because that storyline is just boring at this point. No one cares about him washing someones feet.

I do agree with u. I would have also liked if GL received some kind of punishment for all the things he did that were against conduct of a soldier. But, like u said, I don't think that is possible at this point. It's funny though because the reason why some people disliked GYY was because he had a strong military background and thought he was getting favors. But, truth is, it is actually GL that is gettign the favors while GYY is rising from a nobody. Just goes to show I guess.

GL is just constantly getting worse in my opinion. In the first few episodes he wasn't this bad. Yes, he was annoying and whiney at times but still he had his moments where u could kind of like him. But, than his constant need to get JN to fall in love with him - he just became a total PAIN!!! And let's not even get started at how so many people are bias towards him and they are in the army - EXCUSE ME when did a military become so impartial towards 1 recruit. A recruit that has not even shown his merit. It would be 1 thing if he was irreplaceable and was this smart tactician but he is NO ONE at this point and they constantly are trying to save him -_-.

And than there is JN. When she was with GYY she tried to become the best phone operator and actually wanted to do her best. People even said she was talented like GYY and she could go far. They were amazed at how great she was in such little time. But moment she stopped with GYY and spend even more time with GL - it feels like she no longer cares. And now is becoming an actress for the military. So, GYY was a great influence to her but GL isn't but yet she ends up with GL - how wonderful. *ROLLS EYES*
