I tried, I really did try to look at Gao Liang objectively and see his side of things (yes I am that annoying…
Totally agree. I even tried to force myself to like him as the newer episodes came out because he saved his brothers so I ignored the other things that sort of annoyed me about his character. But than episode 21 came out and I, honestly, can say I can't stand him anymore.
I understand he was wronged and they gave him hope just to take it away from him in the end. But to blame it on GYY who was innocent in this matter was wrong. Like, he trained his butt off and became the quickest recruit to become a sergeant and he just threw away all his achievements to "oh people are favoring him". LIKE WHAT? Dude, he legit worked his tail off while u were being a secretary for the divisonal commander and he never complained once about ur situation. And lets not forget how many times u were favored - the only person that ever favored GYY was his squad leader who was his brother and that just died. And this man had the audacity to say how GYY had the opporunity to send off the ashes. UMMM, if I EVER. It's like GL forgot that he was the one that almost ruined Zhang Fei's chances of being promoted before he died - why would he get the opportunity than? Like what a selfish & arrogant person.
If you are upset about the academy thing than - guess what - u can blame the people who are to be blamed. The higher ups. But to lie & say people are favoring GYY when throughout the entire drama it has been GL - I just can't stand him anymore. It's like GL took 1 step forward towards character development and than 10 steps back. It's like they want us to hate his character. And to be honest, I no longer even care about his sob story - I heard it enough. To constantly use a sob story lessens the value of it and that is what he pretty much did. If u had a sob story + worked just as hard as everyone else than I could be like okay yes he deserves it just as much as GYY. But GYY has been working harder for longer - he deserved it more than him.
The scene in the movie theater was very impactful. It really depicts 2 sides of a war. The side where the soldiers are fighting to keep the peace & the side of normal citizens just enjoying their lives and not even knowing the state of the country. When GYY started telling them that his fallen brother also deserves to be able to sit there just like them and that they shouldn't do this - I felt my heart break. Because its true - all they were doign was sititng and A Xiu was just saying her goodbyes. There was absolutely no reason for that guy to go off on them like it was a crime - but it just shows how sometimes citizens aren't aware because like GYY said "only when there is peace, can we truly forget".
I thought episode 19 was emotional but 20 & 21 also hit home. Everyone finding their own ways of dealing with their fallen comrades. I understand grief kind of hits differently for people and seeing how it impacted everyones life and how they didn't know how to move on it was hard to see. A Xiu's part in the episode really showed that families from the army just want to take them home & are willing to accept any state they are in has long as they can go home with them. I know that the military has their own ways but the fact that they had to wait almost a year to find out that someone died - it must have so hard just not knowing Ahhhh. And I feel A Xiu had an idea but because they never confirmed it for her all she could do was just keep hoping that maybe he is just really hurt, or disabled or just. . . . anything but dead.
That part, about promotion was just horrible. How is he supposedly such a honorable guy, but then goes and does…
Yea, I mean maybe he will be the one with the greatest character development where he will go from somoene that was selfish and only cared about JN to someone that people can count on. I mean at least he was willing to sacrifice even his love for JN to save his brothers during that 1 moment. But, like I said, I need to see more. I can't just be like well 1 episode he is good so I guess he will be a good character now. Even Voldemort was a good student at 1 point in his life lol.
RIGHT? It was like something I wanted to say to him for the longest, so happy someone finally said it. I mean come on he isn't making him go there for a date or something but to help them -_-.
The part where GYY said there were 102 of them and then you can barely count ten people. I started crying all…
OMG, right? And when they showed the flashback with everyone smiling - I was like wow so many of them are just not there anymore. Definitely an emotional scene.
That part, about promotion was just horrible. How is he supposedly such a honorable guy, but then goes and does…
Rofl, yea I feel when he doesn't have scenes where he has to do more than just boss peope around - I get annoyed by him. Gao Liang on the other hand is like the type of person that does 1 right thing but than does a million wrong thigns lol. Like even in the new episodes - during a war he still was trying to find ways to see JN even Zhang Fei was like why u have to get invovled in other people's business. Because its true. Liek can u just stop thinking of her for 1 minute - people are dying out here and ur just thinking that this is a time to go on a date. But he than does 1 thing right where he uses himself to give his brothers some time to retreat. Now it doesn't mean I started loving his character because I still feel he did more annoying things than not. But I do appreciate that action of his and if he can continue this route than I can actually like him. I am just hoping he doesn't return to the usual love sick puppy and just doing whatever he pleases.
That part, about promotion was just horrible. How is he supposedly such a honorable guy, but then goes and does…
Agreed. Episodes 18 to 19 definitely gave GL some improvement but he still had some flaws. But the good outweighed the bad so I will say its an improvement lol. Zheng Yuan, idk how this man became a leader of anything. This man really made his daughter drop her task of gettign the phone lines up for communication just because he wanted to see her ????? UMMMMM, is that even allowed?
Idk I do remember he said he needed permission from the army or somethign associated with them getting married. So, maybe its like how some people getting married through ceremony but they still need to sign papers or something? Definitly a head scratcher though lol. I feel we might never know the answer to this question
WAIT. Is the child Zhang Fei's? or GYY? I thought it would have been GYY's son once he got married with her. I feel like the spoilery summary has gotten everyone so confused and now everyone is trying to piece it altogether lol. Its like a detective show now.
Ahhh the 6 month time skip that went so quick that I had to rewind just to verify how long it was lol. So because people think the kid is Zhang Fei's that it was actually 1 year because for 6 months she would have been showing. Idk i think it is 6 months but she never is pregnant with his kid lol.
I just noticed that when 9th division was standing they had a lot of space in between each other. I was confused why they did that and I just realized its because they wanted to make room for their fallen brothers (some of them mght be injured as well though). 😭😭😭😭😭😭
Yea, and todays 2 episodes didn't make it any less confusing lol. Because the guy again mentioned that she was his wife. I am just like HUH what is going on here? But maybe he just thinks he is wife & husband even though it isn't official.
Ep. 18 & 19Huh, a lot to take in. I love how raw and tragic these two episodes were. Gao Liang finally did something…
Agreed. Gao Liang finally had some true character development and he truly was self-sacrificng this time. He acted like a soldier and gave his company some time to retreat.
That entire scene of GYY breaking down was a true tear jerker. It felt so emotional - the portrayal of that scene by Xiao Zhan was done so well. And agreed, he did refuse to obey orders when Zhang Fei told him to go back and save those people and he shouldn't have because they are in war and he is supposed to be a leader. But at least he knew he was at fault and told his superiors about what he did.
I think the ending scene where u say Nanzheng and GL is 6 months after and he healed completely (kind of) from hsi injuries of where he fell off that cliff and stuff. So, yea I think it took about 6 months for the war to end. And yea I think no one knew he survived because he said they were going to post that he died along with the other guy & have his funeral as well. I guess tryin to show that there are so many dead bodies during war that its hard to find who is alive and who isn't.
Episode 19 was really heart wrenching. When Zhang Fei protected GYY from a booby trap - it just reminded me when he said I will take all the bullets for you but just don't die before me. AND HE REALLY DID THAT. He saved him and in the process he died 😭😭😭😭😭😭. The entire scene where GYY finds out about Zhang Fei's death was done SO WELL. Xiao Zhan's acting during that scene was just absolutely incredible - u could feel the heart break.
And when people were telling GYY that he did a great job bringing all the soldiers back safe (I think he commanded 2 separate companies) but the only thing he could remember was the people he lost. He just blamed himself for being the reason that Zhang Fei died - but its war and things like this happen it isn't anyones fault but ur enemies. But GYY didn't care and told the people in command that he was the one at fault and that he should get punished - it just feels like he doesn't want to be praised but punished because he thinks that he should have saved everyone and not left anyone to die 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭.
When they came back and the 9th division was literally less than half and they showed a flashback of how many people there were and how they just smiled not knowing the pain war was going to bring them and the losses as well 😭😭😭😭😭😭. And almost none of them could look at A Xiu directly - the guilt they all felt for loosing their squad leader.
The end of episode 19, GYY was reluctant to even go and tell A Xiu about the passing of her fiancee. And I can understand that because he still has guilt for being alive while he isn't He believes its his fault & that the reason A Xiu doesn't have a husband is because he saved his life while sacrificing his own 😭😭😭😭😭😭. But Hanyong told him that he couldn't think that way because he can't just hide from the family members and had to move on - he can't just pretend like nothing had happened. That to be a leader u need to be stronger than this. At this moment, I forgot that GYY is just 18 years old and still has a lot to learn and mature from and this was his first loss of someone close to him. Ahhhh the pain.
ROFL, I just read my post and realized I forgot to put "not" . I wrote "I think ur right they are officially married" when I meant to write "i think ur right they are not officially married LOL.
I don't think people are purposefully hating on Gao Liang though - it's like any drama that has that character…
Lol. it's completely understandable & I totally get where ur coming from. Yea sometiimes fandoms can have a certain mindset but I feel there are different people in every fandom - some people are more biased, some are more objective & than some are in the middle.
But it's cool of u to be so understanding - sometimes people who ask these questions are hell bent in just assuming the worse in a fandom and think that we are just altering perspective to make 1 person look good while another bad. But to see that ur actually reading the comments and making ur own judgements - really cool of u :D.
I am indeed a fan of Xiao Zhan but for this drama I decided to look at it from the point of view of how ARMY works.…
Exactly. I feel it has nothing to do with wanting to like Xiao Zhan's character but more to do with how poorly written Gao Liang is. I mean I can't force myself to like a character who just seems like a total jerk and gets by without even trying as much as others. And also doesn't make sense for a soldier.
Gao Liang is like the teachers pet - but without being the smartest or talented student. And we all know nobody likes the teachers pet.
