First I have to say this is a great article. I couldn't imagine the time and energy that you put into making these evaluations. In the areas that I focus most you are almost 100% in line with my thoughts about those dramas. Thank you so much. Have read some other surveys and several viewers seem to be stuck on ONE drama that truly did not rank or rate as the highest quality drama this year (in my opinion) You hit the nail on the head and I am thoroughly appreciative of your efforts. In answer to your questions: How many 2022 released dramas did you watch? 58
What country did you watch the most in 2022? China
What genre(s) do you usually watch? Historical/Romance (not many this year)
What is your top drama listed in this article? (Can be more than one) Love Like the Galaxy and Lighter and Princess
What is your top drama NOT listed in this article? (Can be more than one. If you don't agree with dramas rated by the majority of MDLers, this is the chance for you to convince us why you think your choice of dramas deserved to be on the top.)
Side Story Fox Valant (great maritial arts drama - more old school)
How was your drama journey in 2022?
Periods of too many dramas then a drought of new dramas (resorted to watching several older released dramas)
What is your wish or plan in dramaland in 2023? My plan: Reduce the number of Chinese dramas and expand viewing to a balance among countries.
My wish: Second: There should be a worldwide protest against the CENSORS in China that are destroying the artistic quality of great dramas resulting in editing problems and unsatisfied viewers. Consequential results have been the lower ratings of dramas that deserve to be recognized by the original content not the sliced and diced version. Dramas are no longer fluid and have become piecemeal chopped-up productions. Quality of dramas are dropping.
I don't foresee Lee Seung Gi losing work if he decides to get out of his contract. He's too beloved, and the situation…
Glad to hear and yes he is a major major star in Korea and in the International arena. Just hope it does not cause any loss on his end. His 18 years of hard work have made him a beloved international star and that is a good insulation factor and motivation for other agencies to pick him up if he leaves Hook Entertainment. Would love to see him in some American-made movies.
Gosh, what a pickle of a situation. He was only 17 when he apparently signed with this agency and probably had one of those long-term binding contracts that are signed by many artists. When the artist tries to break the contract they are publically smeared and work dries up. He has to be careful. I always remember one of my favorite actors Noh Min Woo . I loved watching his dramas. After an attempt to break one of those contracts, his career hit a downward slide and he is rarely cast in anything.
I'm enjoy You are my hero. But Remembrance of Things Past is incredible amazing cdrama. It is on my "favorite…
I remember watching Remembrance of Things Past as one of the top Chinese dramas and always wondered why it wasn't properly translated when it was released. The story had depth and as you mentioned so realistic and unique in the presentation of the story of the lives of these beautiful women facing life's challenges and relationships. I used to call it a hidden gem but after reading this article I realize any viewer that watches it will put it on their "best" list.
Only on ep 19 but enjoying all the detail in the retelling of a historical period. The fight scenes and costumes are so authentic. A historical drama that is watched slowly but steady because of the volume of episodes. Perseverance wins the race on this one. Not giving up.
Even my love of Zhao Lusi could not save the extreme amount of Communist propaganda being uttered continually…
We all should have pride in our native land. I have one policy in my life - I don't hate on any country or any people -- Peace, Love and unity will be the only thing that saves this world. I watch dramas from all over the world for historical content and education.
You commented quite long ago, but the situation in entertainment industry is still the same... I only want to…
Just happened to be looking for a drama and found your response to a comment I made 3 years ago. As my pastor says - if nothing changes -- nothing changes. In my biased opinion - nothing has changed. The price of earning fame is so high I always wonder whether it is worth it. the material things you earn are useless if happiness is sacrificed. With the new CANCEL CULTURE it is more unforgiving of human error. Gosh - I would have been canceled by Junior high school with all of my mistakes.
Even my love of Zhao Lusi could not save the extreme amount of Communist propaganda being uttered continually…
I usually don't mind the propaganda dramas -- that is par for the course and every country takes pride in its history. That is how we all learn about different countries. Just studying the history of most dramas is enough for me to enjoy -- and with outstanding actors or actresses with a halfway good story it is acceptable. I just reached my propaganda limit of hating on America in this one. Tolerance level fell to zero.
This compilation chapters these mods have set up is pure genius....By the ratings, it just shows the impact &…
Even my love of Zhao Lusi could not save the extreme amount of Communist propaganda being uttered continually as "anti-American" and if you know your history "anti' South Korean as well. I finally got fed up with the insistence that it was American aggression that was being fought by the Communist party and decided to drop the blatant distortion of history. Still gave it a 5.0 - for Zhao Lusi.
Had ZERO expectations.. surprised me a lot! The subtitles had me dying.. Jujube and Iron Egg.. Lesbian living…
Loved your rant - I watched because it is a "period drama" I love history and I love to see how different countries re-enact historical periods of development. Without knowing our past we will never have a clear vision of our present or even our future ambitions. Only watched 2 episodes (wish translations were better) but I am satisfied with the depiction of this period and it is definitely research worthy to learn more. Thanks for keeping drama watching in perspective for many.
Found this drama on You Tube under the name 99th Proposal. Why that title I have no idea. This drama had its highs but more lows. I continued to watch because each episode is a hook and you really want to know how it ends. Now that it has ended I am curious why the editor and director choose to conclude this drama in the way it did.?
There were a lot of disturbing things about the drama but I was especially put off by the acting of the foreign…
This is probably the case. I love finding the older dramas and attempting to watch them - until the end. It started out really well then fell short in the middle and end. I have a bad habit of "not dropping" because I have invested time in the story. I agree with you -- the creative vision was lacking.
Thanks I make more of these mistakes as I age - I depend on and appreciate my astute youngsters to make sure nothing is misinterpreted . - But I love the conversation. Why God made erasures - not perfect.
