The more you watch the more you enjoy this drama. Zhao Lu Si hits a home run in her betrayal of 4th lady Cheng. She is an outstanding actress and so young. So addictive I will dare to rate the best drama of 2022. waiting for episode 19 /20 is tortuous.
Watched the entire series and found myself asking myself why? The 2008 drama has a strange way of filming and attempting to relay memories. Except for boredom during the daytime I would have dropped. A story that requires patience to get through. Just some strange things happen that didn't sit well with me.
I exist on recommendations from friends and anonymous sources to maintain an interest in watching dramas and I am a prolific recommender of what I consider good dramas. I have found gems in the rough because of recommendations. My sis-in-law recommends dramas, and my MDL bestie I met through comments and people on Reddit make recommendations. Without them I would rely on ratings that oftentimes are only high or low based on the interest in "fluffy romances", wuxia and fantasy, teen dramas, and an aversion to historical or costume pieces. MDL has become the benchmark for finding good new dramas to watch -- the reviews are so important. I have learned to identify names of people that are usually spot-on in comment sections (so I know they are watching and I can check out the drama). Never offended by a recommendation of a drama I could not stomach and definitely would not shun friendships over this minor matter in life. The operative words are we are a people of CHOICE -- we can watch or drop (no love lost). This article is interesting and well written. Enjoyed the thesis that someone out there is constrained to recommend. I guess I am bold beyond measure.
Very entertaining initially, then midway decided to become a very serious drama, then the end well disappointing because it should have ended as a tragedy considering all the things done to the ML and FL. But overall a good drama.
The only comment I would add to your perfect analysis of the King's life is he did commit a major failure when…
I guess I never looked at him as a monster. I believe that your comment portrayed him as a "victim" royal surrounded by scheming officials. He had to scheme. But I truly believe that from day one (before she became Lady Park) he loved Lady Park and trusted her. I guess I am more of a romantic in this area - "protect and defend".
A lot of the comments claiming the King is weak or that his plan was foolish really seemed to miss all of the…
The only comment I would add to your perfect analysis of the King's life is he did commit a major failure when he did not prepare to protect Lady Park knowing her identity and vulnerability. Next week should be interesting since he true self will be revealed in full.
I am hooked. moved from the plan to watch after finishing Hot Blooded Youth. Decided to peak at it by watching episode one and omg. This is truly a well-produced drama and the acting is spot on. It took a little while to understand the interactions in episode one but this drama has taken off with a level of intrigue that is epic. Started with a 10 rating for me because I am up in the middle of the night and can't let go of this drama.
Gosh! I just finished and feel I could go another 50 episodes - it was really that good. This drama was well written and worth the time watching expenditure. At first started slow then became completely immersed in the storylines and outcome. The actors all did an extremely good job.
I am a major Shawn Dou fan but this is the second drama I have watched him in that had an unsatisfactory and rushed ending after watching 40 plus episodes. I am not going to give any spoilers you will eventually read reviews that are high and low. Low because the writers chose to make the FL the most "hated" woman in C drama and the ML the most spineless and obsessed man when dealing with romantic issues. The Republican era storyline was extremely good and would have carried this drama to higher ratings if the writers could have left out the word - LOVE. The flames of war and the intrigue of political strategy, battles, and manipulation were more than sufficient to support the acting skills of all of the males that were in the drama. The females - well - as a female I would dare not identify with anyone except the "wife of the general". I recommend watching for the military aspects - not so much "love and romance."
Just started watching (on episode 5) on Netflix. This is one beautiful drama but immediately I realized there would be a number of characters (in and out of the drama episodes) I would need to follow -- After looking for a list of characters so I could track the story properly I found a list of 122 cast members. WIthout this list, I probably would have dropped this drama because of my inability to follow the storyline. Just a tip I wanted to share.
Watching on YouTube while recuperating from surgery and dozing in and out. Hard to rate fairly after watching Winter Begonia. The translations are often odd but the gist of the story still is clear. Hard to rate because you are often in a love/hate relationship with the FL who the writer wants to be strong but mistakenly leaves the viewer with the impression she is stupid and unable to make good decisions.

immediately read the book after the first three episodes. A masterpiece of story telling plus the stories are…
love your commitment to your opinion. I guess strength is relative for me. No matter how strong you are and all the advantages you are given and the expectations of so many around you and your ongoing obligations to so many people have a "trigger" point. Historically Japan and South Korea have high suicide rates. He was denying who here really was (like a cancer patient denying they have cancer).

I call it the Korean version of an old movie called "imitation of Life" Your father is not your father; your biological father is considered "scum";your mother never tells the truth; you learn your origin from someone you now despise; -- your journey of rejecting your past and walking on egg shells finally crashed (when found) -- only one way out. I cried my eyes out on this part of the book.
It is so different from the book...It seems so obvious why the writer has left the series production..
immediately read the book after the first three episodes. A masterpiece of story telling plus the stories are told generation to generation not intertwined - why this drama is often confusing since the subs don't identify characters along with years. It is amazing they were able to produce this drama the way they did. If I were the writer I would have left as well since some important themes are "foggy."
It is beyond confusing unless you read the story because of the intertwining storytelling of 5 generations over…
NOA is the son of Sunja and Hansu ( raised by ISAK ). Lots of details about his life in book - tried not to be a spoiler - I just mentioned him in the family tree - have no idea how screenwriter will develop his character in this short drama.
The family tree is so confusing. A lot of characters in such short time. :')
It is beyond confusing unless you read the story because of the intertwining storytelling of 5 generations over 80 plus years. I had to buy the book and read book it for this very reason-- will try to type a tree for you . Not a typical K drama for certain.

Just finished - not writing a review just a short comment -- I can only imagine what my life would have been like with these parents. Not a criticism but a self-reflection of all the perils y we meet growing up in a treacherous world. Don't know why I didn't drop it but I think the acting of Yin Tao was so good I had to watch until the end.
