Yes, the depth of his acting skills has already been shown in so many dramas. Playing a dual/duo role will probably be a piece of cake for him. An extremely talented actor - but the script has got to rock-solid before he accepts. Korean writers are finally regaining strength and credibility in their writing so I agree with him taking the drama -- if the writing is outstanding and meets his skills set.
it's my first time not being bored in the middle or near the end of a modern romance Chinese drama. I don't know…
I just finished in the past hour. I am in 100% agreement with you -- it was too funny (initially) and as the story developed I was getting a little annoyed with ads (but not distracted by them). Couldn't stop watching and binged this one late at night and first thing in the morning to finish. Very different and one of the most entertaining body swap story (in a story). Loved all the actors which made it more palatable
Not the best nor the worse drama but it definitely started out with a mature theme but failed to have consistent storytelling. The first flaw was the failure to cast a younger actress as FL or use an age-appropriate actress then change to the final FL. Watched all episodes and ending was unsatisfying to say the least. I completely dropped my rating after the "wedding" and immature response to her legal husband (emotional adultery). My final thought - just send EVERYONE TO JAIL and be done with it.
A worthwhile use of drama viewing time. Another MDL viewer sent this to me as a recommendation. When I saw 41 episodes _ well I hesitated. But I persevered to the end Almost an "Ode to Joy" feeling. Victoria song is an outstanding actress and she was able to emotionally draw me into her character and all of her challenges. This is almost a treatise on how to date, love, be loved, respond to parents and grow up through failed relationships and marriages. I love it.
Lots of comments but decided to wait until all episodes are out before watching further ("dropped /put a hold on"in middle of the 10th episode). Your comments will be the judge of whether I pick it up or just list this as a drop. My only concern is not the cross-dressing issues or sexuality issues -- it is the RISK issue. Considering the mindset of everyone in the past episodes the risks are stronger than any love story that can be drafted. How are the writers going to extract 10 more episodes out of this drama when emotions are heating to boiling.
I feel like this drama was a bit over rated. First, too many episodes where it cold have squeezed in to 24. Second,…
I just finished last night and wanted to write a comment but you covered it all perfectly. Still waiting for director to explain the cliff fall, Sometimes an actors facial expressions cannont change and their career is being type cast. Definitely not an award winner.
I think we will be riding a merry-go-round of similar stories since there is censorship. This was the lowest budget drama I have seen for a while and they started with the actors' clothing - although they are all in the design/fashion business - high end. It took about 8 episodes to enjoy the interaction between the ML and FL and truthfully, watching became addictive because most of us are suckers for contract marriage stories. Hopefully, there will be better-written dramas in the future. Just the fear of losing investments from the "cancel culture" will eventually suppress the quality of many dramas.
Very enjoyable and light romance with mental health themes that are often comical. Drama improved as each episode was viewed and truly a binge-worthy choice. The ML voice was so seductive. Loved him in this drama.
Ten years later this drama appeared on YouTube with English Translations. I do not regret watching daily then finally binge-watching to the end. The story was a spiritual journey with emphasis on sin and sin redemption. It has flaws but it truly was an amazing journey to watch the transformation to a spiritual being because of deep beliefs.
Not enough words to describe this modern day fight/revenge drama. This form of writing, storytelling, editing is multiple layers above and beyond any dramas that are currently available on censored television. Many fight situations were totally UNREAL or UNBELIEVABLE - but who cares - they were enjoyable. I always laughed when I bump into something and have bruises for 5 or more days and how dramas show healing and mobility within minutes of an injury. Netflix has opened doors for writers with imagination beyond tropes. Really enjoyed -- Highly recommend.
No. 1 because it is unique, it explores human nature at its rawest forms -- survival and greed. No tropes, no predictability, no WHY did he or she do this", and very few illogical actions that drag down a drama. Well written, excellent cinematography, excellent editing, and directing, great acting, and each episode became more addictive as you watched. Netflix has not met up to subscribers' expectations with many international or domestic dramas, however, they made an excellent choice by featuring this drama. Definitely a MUST SEE!!!
I am glad I read your post. I just dropped it because I got to episode 18 and no English subs. Since it is a 2006…
My all time favorite - love the historical, period dramas when they aren't fluffy. RIse of Phoenix is next, then Serenade of Joy, then, Ming Dynasty. I could not finish Qin Dynasty because I couldn't get over the actor who looked too old to play the role -- made it to about episode 40 or so before I quit.
They are slowly releasing eng subs of this show on YouTube. I think it a great series and the ML is an amazing…
I am glad I read your post. I just dropped it because I got to episode 18 and no English subs. Since it is a 2006 drama I thought I had found a hidden gem. I will check back in a couple of weeks to finish this wonderful drama.
This movie - solid 10 and should be a mandatory must for all K drama watchers. Usually, watch dramas but this movie - well -- it exceeds everything I have watched from any director, storyteller or editor. The filing and acting were over the top and since based on a true event the riveting storytelling just makes this a tearjerker. Youth of May drama took me her.
Your article - a masterpiece and a great analysis of dramaland marriage. After reading your article I am now convinced that the reason I am "addicted" to K dramas and C dramas is the prospect of marriage and relationships. As a viewer you are constantly questioning relationship goals and the odds of family interference. How boring would it be if we just watched - dating, falling in love, getting married without all the "side drama." I started this journey watching Secret Garden (not understanding family opposition to a decent person because of social status) then became more curious after watching K drama Emergency Couple. I think I've watched 90% of all the dramas you have listed. Can't wait for part 2.
