Title The Legend of Xiao Chuo Spoiler
I don't hate him (yet) but he is a manipulative and complex character as is Yansage...
Indeed... this is very good, everyone is layered and gives us conflicted feelings about them... I am happy Derang is not blindly trusting of him. So far he is the nicest character... and sadly too nice... I hope he stands up for himself.

I keep hearing Mingyi but I notice everyone here calling him Mingli. Heh.
Yups it Mingyi. Its wrong in the cast info. Most people like me probably don't remember all the names yet and have been referring to that.

I think she likes MingLi and she won't be that unhappy with him - she can satisfy her ambitions to do great things as his queen. But you know your first love is always special. And she has more in common with Derang in the sense they are both athletic and robust. I can't see a sickly prince satisfying someone so high spirited and active for long. He can't even hold his wine! Where is the joy of life in that?

I'm keen to know your thoughts about this trend to translate "wang" here as "duke".
You are correct, the accurate translation of duke should be gong and vice versa. But the titles of the peerage was different during different dynasties and given this one is fictional, it is hard to tell what is the correct peerage and rankings for the princes and the harem - it ultimately is what the writer intended. I have more than once seen in fictional dramas and books, wang translated as duke. Prince or wang is actually also a conferred title for many dynasties. They just make the distinction by titling them princes of different ranks. But its too messy to do that for something like this and not many would understand those distinctions anymore. If I had to guess, the translator is just trying to make the point that the emperor has not designated an heir. I think there are better, cleaner ways to do that.

Question for the Yun Xi viewers (I didn't watch it):
Is it possible that Fu Rong and Prince Su are just the reincarnations from their Yun Xi characters? Is that why there are so many shout out lines and scenes? Maybe that is why iQiyi edited out the detail in the dreams in such an odd way? To leave open the interpretation that these dreams can be either premonitions or memories of their past life?

Heheh thx that sounds fun... you mean I can change Duke An to Duke Dufus throughout? Unfortunately I am watching on IQ app for AppleTV so I am sure I won't be able to do that...

If I had to pick one I would go with prince but it seems duke is the translator preference. It annoyed me too so I switched the subs off....

Although the Chinese title doesn’t make a distinction they are both wang, my personal preference is to use Duke An and Prince Su. I think of it like that because after his father died and his brother was made emperor with sons of his own, Duke An is no longer in direct line to inherit the throne and should no longer be called prince. Whereas Prince Su and his brothers are. Similarly if Prince Cheng subsequently inherits the throne and has his own sons, I would change Prince Su to Duke Su although his his title in Chinese is still the same Wang. A translator will use the same title for them all because it is technically correct but an interpreter will make a distinction between the two regardless because it better conveys the meaning or circumstances.

Are you talking about King Taiping?
He’s not exactly a bad guy either. He has that ruthlessness you need to be the ruler and that sense of entitlement... he is a bit of a sociopath.....
