It is a sad but fitting ending. Nobody has a happy ending and some of them are doomed to suffer for eternity. But if you read and appreciate a lot of Chinese mythology you won't think it is bad or that callous. I still really like it but I am the minority.

I would also consider Handsome Siblings which is probably the best pure wuxia I have seen recently. If you are a die hard fan of fight scenes Sword Dynasty is great but I dropped bc it was too much for me. I just started Dark Lord which also seems very promising.

I am only at 43 so I will have to get back to you. But my personal feeling from the start has been that this is one where everyone/most of them die to save the world kind of shows. It is very mysterious in terms of the characters and what they are thinking and where their loyalties lie. And it is SLOW with like drama student production value... But I love mythology and suspenseful shows so it works for me. Many people don't like it which is obvious from the thread.

I was so annoyed I went back and watched his parts in TMOPB. His face muscles used to work way back then. WTH happened???

Yuqi is more mature, better in this role. She is great in Heaven Sword too but she wasn't the best Zhao Min I have seen. Partly the writing and partly the ML also was not up to scratch though not as bad as this one.

Me too but I think it will be quite thrilling and chilling to watch an obsessed, embittered and radicalized Su Fu that turns into a major villain that goes toe to toe with Xiao Song and Ran Yan...

At 42: Finally continuing with this. Seems like it is just me but I think it is getting quite a bit better towards the end.

Just checked the ending on both youku and iqiyi instead of youtube (where I watched it) and the "alternative ending" you describe is actually the (one and only) official ending on both of these sites. And in the ending circle picture it says 后会有期. I guess they are definitely planning season 2.

If it is an alternative ending it’s lame, unnecessary and slightly creepy. And it unambiguously turns Su Fu from a grey character to a dark one. If it’s a lead into a second season It sets up for a better twist if the survivor is actually The mastermind and not Su Fu. I have t had a chance to track it down and watch.

Well since you gals were already spot on with Xiao Song, I focused on the troublesome Ran Yan. :)

Well put. One of the best, most satisfying endings I have seen recently. I won't even bother to try to find the alternative. :)
