Yeah I think it is clear the intent was to adapt the whole series. Unfortunately the drama never got popular bc it was cut into 2 parts. So it is doubtful they will go ahead and make S3. But maybe they expect people to just watch the donghua to complete it. I personally would rather just read the books/listen to the audiobook when the weather gets cool enough for me to hike again.

What Sairong meant when he said that is he is going to have his hands full with internal strife BUT still he is happy bc his old enemy the Zichuan family may end up falling bc of the KOL.

It seems to me there is a lot of new arcs that were opened that is unnecessary if they don't make more seasons - i.e,. Ka Dan and the birth of Si Yilin's son, ZX's origins and how he became orphaned, Luo Si's ascent, the Liufeng Shuang's story, even Ning's story is incomplete.. But I suspect if there are more books in the series adapted, there would almost certainly be quite a few changes in the main cast.

Lu Di is there by design, he is not just comic relief. ZX spares him repeatedly bc he knows if Beizu sends a real smart general like YQX, he and his ragtag army are doomed. But as long as Lu Di is there to "conquer Yanzhou", Beizu won't send a more competent army.
