Ning is coming of age and she is being groomed to take over from Canxing. Raising money to repair Wanyu was her first big task. She has to prove her ability. So she was also using Ma Wei. And she does know him since childhood - he is from one of the influential merchant families. Like all merchants families once they have money, they aspire to nobility and power. As for Ma Wei he is already part of the administrative bureaucracy that Ning/the court officials have to manage.

I don't think Ma Wei and Canxing are on the same side. Ma Wei in his own words is frightfully ambitious. He means to ascend to power using Ning. He may love her as well but it doesn't hurt she is the heir. He is ultimately Canxing's enemy, not his ally. I think Ning is on to him though and I don't think she was ever into him. Maybe she was just lonely and flattered by his attention. But ultimately she still loves Xiu AND she is both her father's daughter and Canxing's niece. There is a lot of cunning behind her ditzy act.

Right now he is chaotic good. He is out numbered and out classed so he can only fight a guerrilla war where his chaotic-ness makes him difficult to predict.

He is no different from all the other choices in that matter. No one has the time or luxury of putting their loved one first in this chaotic world. The only person who seems to have time to sit around and water plants is Canxing but I am quite sure no one wants to pick him.

And it’s the same analysis - Si Yilin is loyal to Zichuan Canxing so I don’t think he has to be “turned”. This loyalty even Xiu does not want to test and thus he doesn’t contact him on his latest trip. I know Canxing trusts Li Qing as much as that old troll can trust anyone but idk yet about the extent of Li Qing’s loyalty to
him.

That's awesome. I will take Xiu any day of the week. Bc he's the only one that is almost certain to come out of this alive. In this super dangerous world, the rest are huge question marks. And I like my men to have life in them.

Who is him? You mean Si Yilin? I don't think Ning manipulates him at all, she doesn't need to. He is already unwaveringly loyal to Canxing. He does not need to be pushed to be made more loyal. If Di Lin rebels, it is bc Canxing has been pushing him to every step of the way. He feels threatened by him.
