Me too. Lei Jiayin's acting is given for granted, he is always perfect in all his roles, so the real surprise…
Yeah Chinese movie actors are in an entirely different league in terms of skill and pay. Once an actor "graduates" to the big screen, you don't really find them making that many dramas anymore. At most they will only do one drama every couple of years to stay relevant to broad audiences. And they are super picky about which directors and actors they work with. Notice there are no idol actors in this cast list.

Yes of course that is how they moved litchis at least parts of the way but not to move entire litchi trees. They are big trees, a lot bigger than shown in Yanxi palace. We have one in our garden.

Lol - I read your heartfelt rant! Skimping on the villains is always the kiss of death bc the heroes are only as good as the villains.

Yes it’s certainly possible as by then the capital had moved to Beijing so you can just ship the trees from Fujian to Beijing. But I doubt they lasted in Beijing’s climate and I believe in that scene most of the fruit spoiled anyway. Chang’an was the seat of the Tang empire and it was far inland and not accessible by water.

Ep 5: The barber shop mentions the Lantern Festival, 3rd Year of Tianbao.
That of course is a clear call out to Longest Day in Chang'an. And the customer he remembers should be Cao Poyan, the Wolven Squad leader that snuck into Chang'an.

compre lichi para ver si era verdad que no duraban en pocos dias, pero puedo decir que es mentira, duran fuera…
It is widely recorded in Tang historical texts and records that during those times, litchi only lasted 2-3 days. Today, litchis last longer due to early harvesting (before they are ripe) and agricultural advances including cultivating hardier varieties and treatment with fungicides and waxes. Nowadays even without refrigeration they can easily last over a week but they don't taste as good.

Why is it so sad? But at the same time so funny? The main actor is so good and on point to make the right emotions.…
Its a very well done dark comedy.

Yeah I probably have no time to go this year and I am really torn between revisiting Xian for the new excavations or Chengdu for the Sanxingdui museum.

Lol - then you know that Yang Guifei was very... ahem... quite round! I haven't been there in years but I mean to go back soon as I heard there are many new excavations and discoveries in Xian.
