It was called the postage stamp test (also known as the nocturnal penile tumescence or NPT stamp test) that was commonly used to evaluate erectile dysfunction, particularly in the 1980s and 1990s.
Before going to sleep, a man would wrap a ring of connected postage stamps (the kind with perforations between them) loosely around the shaft of his flaccid penis, securing it like a band. In the morning:If the perforations were torn apart, it indicated that a full nocturnal erection had occurred overnight (a positive result, suggesting the issue might be psychological rather than physical).
If the ring remained intact, it suggested no sufficient erection happened (pointing toward a possible organic/physical cause).
The test relied on the fact that healthy men typically experience 3β5 involuntary erections during REM sleep, regardless of dreams or arousal.
I think LYX is an excellent actor but he can't carry a 40 episode drama all by himself. No one can, not any of the so called top actors so I am not throwing shade at him. In general long dramas that are centered around one central character male or female, usually flop. Look at Journey of Legend which was all about Cheng Yi vs MLC where there were 2 other strong male leads. It is also why I think TBOY with its 3 leads is still a better and higher rated drama than BR with 2. The most successful actors including ZRY and Hu Ge are very careful to take scripts where there are well written co-lead and/or supporting characters around them.
I am also waiting a few days before continuing with this. The airing schedule interrupts the flow of an already dense story - 1 episode a day is not a good way to watch this kind of story.
I don't think WoF is directly comparable but I think the low score is due to the fact that while the fantasy world is interesting and different, the narrative approach of just dumping the viewer into the world without establishing any of the "rules" or world building lost viewers who didn't want to work it out for themselves from the get go. Notice on this and other sites there is very limited discussion of the plot besides what novel readers are spoiling. This is usually to me a bad sign bc it means casual viewers don't understand or are not engaged enough in the plot to care. They just complain about shallow stuff from the costumes to the FL's screen time. It is also too one character/LYX- centric and tbh his TLC is quite similar in broad strokes to TTJ in TTEOTM - misunderstood, non-human with different standard of morality. Its not only been done before, this particular actor has done it before many times - very well I might add but nonetheless its nothing new from him. In a few months, I won't be able to tell you anymore how TLC is different from TTJ. At least in TTEOTM the supporting characters, in particular the FL has her own story arc and agenda. Finally, this one also looks to me like its headed in a tragic direction. Just my two cents on why I think the rating is where it is.
