I believe there is a longstanding rivalry bc Wushuang City was the top martial arts city before Xueyue City eclipsed it and Song Yanhui was out to restore the former glory of Wushuang City, challenging Xueyue City. I remember in TBOY she had a bet/boast with him that her bro Lei Wujie would become a sword deity before his disciple Wushuang and she ended up losing that bet. There is a lot of silly rankings and my sword is better than your sword stuff in this entire series. I guess that is also why Wushuang toppled Swordless City in its ascent only to be toppled by Xueyue City.
