Unfortunately wuxia's written in China these days are all high fantasy with almost god level powers bc of the gaming influence. I think its ridiculous I prefer the old school classic wuxias as well where the fighting scenes are more grounded in reality.

I think from the start SMY didn't want to leave bc he swore an oath to protect the Patriarch. Like Su Zhe he was bound by his oath until freed. SCH on the other hand is ambitious and sees Anhe as a means to be influential in the martial world and not just a bunch of assassins that simply do other people's dirty business for payment. Whereas SMY just wants to free himself and everyone else. I think they are controlled by some kind of medication bc the Patriarch was surprised to learn that SMY (and likely SCH also) long ago figured out how to free himself from it yet remained loyal. But I guess everyone else is probably still under its control. As for the ending, I think its possible that in the end SMY doesn't kill SCH, he just knocks him out. And then takes him far away from jianghu to begin again with new identities. There is room for them to end Blood River like that.

Yes exactly. My folks and my bro also have over 80 inch screens the 4K is excellent on them when you watch live sports but for filmmaker mode which is what I like it’s barely perceptible the difference. My Youku app is a beta testing one it’s not that stable sometimes I change down back to 1080p it looks identical to me unless it’s a really really really dark scene.

Yeah that producer/ director Ma Tao was pretty special. Yin Tao is just garbage as in he doesn’t really care and it shows.

I watched LLTG it was alright, went on a tad bit too long and I just didn't like the FL's character. I only really enjoyed it for the emperor and his tragic love triangle. Tiger and Rose I didn't like and dropped. The humor just didn't land for me.

To each their own - any day of the week I'd much rather watch Western modern dramas. I do think Chinese modern suspense dramas are good. I don't read subtitles so I don't watch k-dramas at all.

Oh Gawd -Love's Ambition and Hidden Love are the types of shows you can't pay me to watch no matter who is in it. I did watched both WRTW and LLTG they were ok but not memorable. I think the only drama of hers I did remember was Love of A Thousand Years even though her acting in it was quite green, the story stayed with me.

I pick dramas based on plot I don't really care who the actors are as long as the storyline sounds interesting. I know Lusi has many dramas to her name but I didn't particularly enjoy the ones I did watch and the rest just didn't appeal. I don't like watching romances and modern romances are a giant no for me, I only like dark xianxias and period dramas with little or no romance. I like this for the fact there is practically no romance.

Don't know, I don't watch her that much. Most of her role choices don't resonate with me.

One day, c-drama will shock me by really killing someone dead after shoving them off a cliff. But so far... not yet...

I think like most actors, GJ excels at roles he can relate to. And WKX was the kind of character he personally connects with the most - mischievous and kind of a rogue. So he was just being himself in WOH. Had he not landed a hit of that stature, today he'd still be in support roles. He is not the only one - Yang Mi for example was the perfect Bai Qian - imperious, unforgiving and badass. She basked in the role but after that crashed and burned in everything else. LYT is technically a very good actor but she is a quiet personality. Whenever she takes on overly animated roles, even though she does it well, its clear she is trying very hard but it is not her. It is very hard to get into a character that is not you. Very few actors can really do it. To my knowledge, I have only seen DiCaprio and a few others pull off all kinds of different roles very well. I think GJ should stick to grey roles. But I also don't think he is terrible here - or at least its not his fault he is playing a boring character.

As I was just mentioning to someone else, 4k only makes a difference with 1080p if your screen is bigger than 55 inches. And tbh its not really noticeable until you go up to 80 inches, especially if you have a TV that already does upscaling on 1080p like mine does. My Youku app has 4k but its a beta version not available to everyone. On my 65 inch TV 4k is not that noticeably different than 1080p.

Unless you are watching on a bigger than 55 inch TV, you won't be able to tell the difference between 1080p and 4k. And even on my 65 inch, its not a huge difference. But when I watch on my bros 80 inch I can see the difference. So unless you have such a giant screen, its not worth the trouble to get 4k if its not easily available. On a small device like an ipad or a phone, sometimes the lower resolution looks better. That is why the pirate sites may be giving you better picture - they are at most 720k.

I haven't seen the split tower in this drama yet but it is possible that the plot-lines between BR and TBOY will converge.
