And there you just destroyed my last remaining shred of hope for this story! I hear the remaining episodes dropped with bad subs. I think its fine to just watch them - there is usually no useful information in the text beyond the pretty pictures.

A terrible book written by someone who loathes their own identity.
Easily - it’s an atrocity. The writer thinks they are Chinese but they are Western and they mock Mao without even understanding Chinese culture and history. Only white people praise it it’s disdained everywhere else. One of the worst books ever to win biased awards - the writing itself is barely literate. A total disgrace.

Yeah I couldn’t get back into the story after that. Seems like the plot just keeps getting more and more absurd. Even the villains are killing for the sake of being irredeemable.

I am only onto Ep 2 but so far it’s about Xiaoming - which literally means little name. You can see she doesn’t love the name bc it’s so invisible or insignificant but it’s still her name anyway so she refuses to change it but it’s a sensitive point for her. So imagine how incensed she is when her husband steals the story of her life and puts it under his name, only dedicating it to her, thereby not taking her little name seriously at all. It takes her back to revisit her childhood and a mystery from long ago of a nameless corpse which I am sure she must have something to do with. That’s what I can tell so far.

Well her name Xiaoming literally means "little name" - she doesn't love it yet sees it as proof of her existence and individuality. So imagine how mad she is when her hubby plagiarizes her work, stealing her name and making it vanish.
