I feel your pain :). I have to keep talking myself down about this show. On the other hand, the main leads’ little noodle supper was just so sweet and it’s adorable how happy it makes the doctor to take care of her. And the mother seems so totally intimidated by her that I’m hopeful for some real character growth on the horizon.

Wow, the scene in episode 11 when he says his mother has treated his past girlfriends this way—explains so much about his character, why he’s so resigned and why he doesn’t seem to even think about acting on his attraction to Yu Qing. I was thinking he was just really cold, but he’s actually trying to protect her…
I’m really enjoying this; hope it keeps its charm. I don’t really like FL-chases-ML stories that much (I’m one of those that found big parts of GoGo Squid a really hard sell) but the FL here is so open and honorable that it’s easy to keep respecting her.
It’s also getting an added sweetness from the fact that he’s attracted to her right away—but he doesn’t initially trust her attraction to him and he has good reason not to do so. There’s a fairytale undertone to this—it’s mentioned explicitly in the Bluebeard allusion, but the other source that’s coming to mind is the Psyche/Cupid legend.
Who knows if the quality will keep up, but it’s good enough so far that I’m itching for next Thursday.

It’s definitely a different story line, with very different character types. I binged the first 8 episodes yesterday and I’m finding it compelling, though I’m not sure why. I really like the FL, who seems genuinely courageous and resourceful rather than merely spunky. The side stories are just starting to get underway, but they look promising.
I’m really enjoying their romance, if it can be called that yet. I’m a sucker for trope-y love-at-first-sight dramas, but this feels so real, the way they’re slowly learning about each other.

I seem to remember reading an article about doctors in Mainland China that suggested that the profession is less prestigious and well paid than it is in places in the West (and specifically in the US). Does anyone know if that is generally the case?
