I think the person we saw in episode 1 was already him, having returned for her (after everything they'd been through together), but she hadn't yet entered the book at that point, which is why she didn't know him. Then she returns to her real world a few days earlier than that moment in Episode 1, so he's still not there. These time paradoxes always mess with my head a bit πŸ˜….

Surprisingly, it's quite good. I liked the actors, especially the ML, and none of them are dubbed (or so it seemed to me). You can watch it in one sitting as a very long movie, and it's never boring.
