we're having an "issue" because the drama started off on a whole, "we're saving AFRICA (a continent) note with…
You say that you want to understand, but you say things like this last comment and it seems like you don't. Saying "maybe you should shut your mouth if you have to be so sensitive about every tiny little thing" is not a good start and not a good look. And saying "honestly there was nothing to take offense to in this" is also not a good start because if you actually read the comments here, from people actually from the region and who are actually impacted by these representations of themselves in the media, then you could learn something and start to see a new perspective. The fact that it isn't the first drama to "bring up the Africa thing" is EXACTLY one of the points here - it's brought up like this again and again and again, and folks are tired of it, for very good reasons. It has impact on people, even if you don't know why yet, or think it does.
Your profile says that you're 17 years old, and so it's understandable that you haven't had a chance yet to learn as much as you'll need to learn about the world, but this is your opportunity to start. You're allowed to have an opinion, sure, but it's an uninformed opinion, frankly, and people are going to call you on it. That's your cue to figure out more. I know a lot of folks your age, and they're all amazing - they're curious about the world and empathetic beyond what many of us were empowered to be at that age.
To the person who just blocked me because I called them out on the use of "third world" not being scientific terminology....you've proved my point pretty well. This person also tried to insult me by saying that I was being too irrational. But here's the thing - I'm not ever bothered by that. Because that's the charge that has been leveled against people protesting every single societal ill since the beginning. (And that IS gaslighting, by the way.)
@freedonuts You know what? It is not historical. Today there are still western celebrities and non celebrities helping the poor, helpless, and impoverished black people in Africa. Go ask the police to catch them and put them in prison for racism agaisnt Africa and lookng down on Africans.
That's your quote, copied and pasted here. Your words.
Silly. Not sure what you're looking for, would it actually make you happy if they named the country within Africa…
Nowhere in the world is "third world" scientific terminology. Not even close, not even in the slightest. It's not scientific, it's not even correct, and it's not ok anymore. Many researchers around the world know this and have started correcting their use of this kind of language. I'm not gaslighting at all, (not even close, but nice try), and you can do better too (which will end up "pleasing" people and not harming them with colonial language.) Also, I don't know if you've been paying any attention at all to the comments, but this issue IS personal...to a lot of people. So I don't know why you're trying to make that an insult or something, but it's not.
That's not true. There is nothing rude and no generalizations nor stereotypes in this drama. This drama never…
You really do think you're better than everyone else, don't you. First people are too young to talk to you about anything, and now I'm talking a bunch of bs for an older person. Soooo, that must mean that you're like Goldilocks and are JUST RIGHT, huh? Dang, it must be super hard for you to feel like you must be right about everything all the time. Narcissist much??
Thanks for your message. The truth is that these people are the real racists. They were triggered because the…
News flash for you: your BELIEF in the validity of something doesn't determine its actual validity. And thank god for that! No one has prove a damn thing to you. You have decided to be willfully ignorant and that's that.

Well guess what, "kiddo" I guarantee I'm older than you and I've been trying to give you advice for a few days now and you aren't listening. And I disagree wholeheartedly with your statement that somehow you have the right to know a place better than someone else who lives there or is from there. Why don't you sit down and listen to your elders for once and stop being so condescending to people? Oh, and are you actually from France like your profile says?

So you're still here spamming every comment, I see. You know, you've been given the opportunity to learn something over these past few days - to listen to another person's lived experience, and to maybe learn something that's counter to the narrative that you've obviously been taught (and that's done you a serious disservice.) But you're waking up everyday and choosing ignorance instead, doubling down on the absolute statements, and generally just being obtuse and willfully misinformed. You keep repeating the ridiculous "prove it" demands over and over again, however the "proof" has already been provided - you just refuse to accept it, or even admit that there might just maybe be some truth that runs counter to what you've been spewing all over this page lately. Your world seems small and insular, and that's sad actually.
