Do you all think they'll release a movie version of this (like every other BL lately) and give us a few extra scenes with a Director's Cut version (like they very successfully did with Life-Love on the Line and the We Best Love special editions?) Because that would be awesome.
"I don't think it hits Where Your Eyes Linger level." There was one very short, very awkward, sort-of kiss during…
You're certainly free to disagree, but as far as originality goes, I feel like I've seen the themes of cruel family, gangster/gangster-like family, etc, in not only HIStory:Trapped first but other Thai and Japanese BL before WYEL came along. (I feel like I've also seen bodyguard falling in love BL before but I'm not coming up with the exact title right at the moment.)
It's also been a bit since I've seen WYEL so I should go back and rewatch it, but I don't remember thinking then that it had as high of video production and quality as you're saying. But all that to say, we all have our different opinions about what we like best, and that's fine, of course. And I make the argument all the time that there aren't actually that many truly original stories left to tell in the world. Humans have been telling stories for a long long time and we're just recycling certain themes over and over again with differences made for context and setting and personal experiences. And I'm ok with that because it's the contextual and situational differences that make it interesting, and it's how a certain story lands for us personally that ultimately determines how we feel about it. So for me, SE landed with a bigger impact than WYEL because of SE's specific production choices, acting, and writing, and for you it was the opposite and that's perfectly fine. (And now I really should go back and rewatch WYEL...)
Haha, my comment was late, I guess, but I'm glad you found it. (I've been requesting J-dramas on Viki and Netflix like crazy lately so hopefully we can start seeing more there and not have to go on these treasure hunts just to find dramas!)
I liked it, but I don't think it's as perfect as everyone seems to feel. First of all, it's time for Korea to…
"I don't think it hits Where Your Eyes Linger level." There was one very short, very awkward, sort-of kiss during the very last seconds of Where Your Eyes Linger, (after a forced absence and a time jump) whereas this had all sorts of intimacy and affection. Don't get me wrong, I liked WYEL as well, but this was way better, imo.
I subscribe to the Weather Channel Premium irl, so I already know how interesting weather and weather-related issues and challenges can be. But so far this is on another level! First of all, it's just beautifully filmed - the weather graphics, the natural landscapes, the neighborhoods. It's Netflix money being put to its best use. But it's not just that - it portrays the human element of weather really well and why it's actually crucial to get this stuff right, down to the overtime and extra staffing and various groups getting put on full alert for the possibility of events like hail, heavy rain, etc. And the characters are actually interesting as well! They're not total caricatures, they're humans who are all over the map with their emotions and motives. We don't have to like them, but they're definitely not flat and boring. If this drama continues to crank out episodes that are as well-produced as the first few, this could end up being a favorite. We'll see!
Funny thing is some people comparing these two different showns when they are completely different genre. I really…
I just want to say that your comment that ends with "Plus no diversity, no non beautiful people, no disabled people. That’s not how school works I remember my own school life and we had people from all walks of life." is SPOT. ON! Also, this is why I watch a lot of J-dramas, which actually more often show the realities of life and love rather than the very eloquent sentence you wrote: "Just a way of showing cookie cutter heteronormative people with zero sex like ken and Barbie." (Just a great comment all around.)
Japan has actually made some of the best BL/LGBTQ+ films/dramas so I'm not sure what you're watching. (And actually,…
Sorry for my late reply - have you made it to the UK safely? I wanted to thank you for your earlier comment and how you explained your time in Japan. I hope you settle in well in your new place!
For me Utsukushii Kare has left such an impression. It’s one of my favourite dramas and lead actors over the…
Thanks again for your great compliments! Is there a list that I’m missing and should add? I watch dramas from other countries too but I don’t have as many lists for them….

Preach that sh!t louder! Absolutely agree.
