I agree with all BUT the taking stuff without paying, coz the friends actually paid for them. He had the bill…
I fast-forward some scenes of ep 2 because i was getting restless haha yes, I wish the leads picked a better project to work together because they’re very talented. I would had prefer a historical drama with them both in it, something similar to love in the moonlight haha
She drinks on her job with her friends? She sure hasn’t improved much in the past three years. Her friends are so annoying. They accuse him of overworking FL? WTF
So FL is basically stalking ML for the past three years. She fell in love with him ever since that moment they met. And that’s why she decided to work there. Romance is the only worthy goal for a girl to live for? LOL
UGH while he’s drunk and asleep, she starts invading his space and feeling him all over. Sexual harassment in EP 2 as well?!? WTF
He has a girlfriend and FL is pursuing him?!? How can anyone accept this? And she physically assaulted him when he called out his girlfriend name while sleeping. Are you kidding me!?! I’m only 10 minutes into episode 2, and I’m feeling MAD.
The dreadlock guy isn’t funny.
UGH I had to fast-forward some scenes, it got so annoying.
I nominated the FL as one of the worst of 2020. •she drinks on the job •hits on her boss who has a girlfriend (doesn’t matter if his gf is shady or bad) •she physically touched him all over while he was drunk •physically assaulted him while drunk. •falls in love with ML in three minutes, she kept the stuff animal.
Now it’s time for me to check out Its Okay not to be okay. I hope that drama is good to wash away my sour taste of this week episodes of Backstreet Rookie. So disappointed.
Some of the users here are being really insensitive, there might even be some victims of sexual harassment here and for those to gloss it over as small and insignificant, that’s not meshing well with me. And we wonder why victims hide the incidents from their life because of judgmental people like yourselves.
The oh Goblin did this as well and GOT did that, and the argument of how come people didn’t get upset long time ago? —The fact is people did get upset and there are articles on it. Second if certain people didn’t get upset in the past, but now they are, it’s called they grew up and realized their mistakes. Lastly, it shouldn’t be acceptable just because other shows have done it before.
The director promised the audience when the project was first announced that it would be family-friendly. It received backlash even then, so no one should be surprised and should had taken care of removing controversial elements when making the show, clearly they didn’t do a good job of it, not completely. Ask yourself, was it necessary to adapt a drama from an adult webtoon when there are so many webtoons out there? Every year the number of webtoon to drama adaption is increasing dramatically, still confounded why the leads and the production team chose this raunchy webtoon specifically. They are not lacking good webtoon.
This is not a hate post. Gosh people can’t differentiate between hate and constructive criticism.
I’m really disheartened when I see some people online like in twitter glorifying that kissing scene. They squeal…
“ To be fair, I am not even sure why I am arguing with you. I do not consider the behavior of the ML and FL particularly normal, but I still try to defend it. Perhaps I look too much like my dad and mom who are lawyers... And I take a challenge in justifying the unjustifiable... Haha” —beats me, according to you, I have inference bias because I can’t mind-read LOL
—That’s not true, there were backlash for goblin as well.https://www.straitstimes.com/lifestyle/entertainment/k-drama-goblin-is-very-popular-but-very-controversial-in-south-korea—Two…
“ So even if two people witness the killing and they think it is murder, it does not mean that it is murder. ” —the example I made up is to indicate that it is 100 percent murder. It’s a fact but the judge rule it not so, just because for a “blank” number of reasons including corruption.
—in the eyes of the law it may not be murder, doesn’t mean it’s not the case. We know the truth.
“ but do not be surprised that there are cases where it actually worked. Do not bluntly disregard it as if I am making a joke.” —obviously nothing is impossible. Strange things happen all the time, but it’s super rare. There is no point in toying with potential scenarios that is a rare occurrence. It’s probably easier to lasso down the moon lol
“ For example, the scene where JCW gave her his number. Was he really gobsmacked or did he retract because he realized that he should not give it to her as it is not right to hook up with a high schooler (age gap)?” —any imagined scenario could happened, but this is when we start dabbling into fantasy and the world of imagination. —his flustered reaction in giving out his number in the first place is a clear sign he would answer any question she ask of him, like “what’s your favorite color, when’s your birthday?”
“ Even if there is even a slight bit of ambiguity, a lawyer can make it work. Because in the West (I'll assume you are from the West), you are not guilty until proven. But even in countries such as Japan, where you need to prove your own innocence, cases only go to court when there is direct evidence (not circumstantial evidence).” —any lawyer would always try to find ambiguity in any situation even evidence that is 100 percent fool proof. It’s not a surprise. Don’t make any assumption about my origins. Once again, we as viewers are the judge, and the evidence is right in front of us.
“ I am just saying that you make your judgment very easily. But your view is always prone to an inference bias, because you cannot directly look into their heads. Our law systems are not perfect, but if we follow your way of thinking, there would be no order” —Yes I made my judgment easily because it’s obvious. Black & white evidence. —We might as well say every human have inference bias because no one can read people minds lol —your concluding sentence about my thinking process is melodramatic and hard to support lol
I’m really disheartened when I see some people online like in twitter glorifying that kissing scene. They squeal…
You right, I should just ignore them. A person can criticize, it doesn’t make them less of a fan. I don’t understand the justifications of some fans ugh lol
I’m really disheartened when I see some people online like in twitter glorifying that kissing scene. They squeal…
“ I used the legal definition and you used a more emotional argument.“ — Your legal definition applied to a specific country. And it is a broad blanket. Second of all, the example you used is not in the same context as portrayed on the show.
“But now you are stretching it. What is wrong with sketching sexual things? No offence, but you are a bit of a snowflake.” Nothing is wrong with that if the show wasn’t advertised as family-friendly lol
“Exodus 21:7 "When a man sells his daughter as a slave, she will not be freed at the end of six years as the men are." —not sure why you are bringing this up but yes that law is archaic and wrong.
“ You know what the funny thing about my example is? If you have ever met a Christian, you will understand that they do not follow these passages. They are able to judge what is right from wrong. Same with this drama. Unless a person lack any sense of judgment, they will not follow the example of JCW and KYJ” —not sure why we are discussing Christianity. Everything is about context. No one can fully understand the Bible or context or the actual meaning and intent of every passage and verse. It’s better to judge the people actions in our life because we can understand it better.
—not sure why we are jumping into topic of viewers emulating the actions of the leads. We can call out on the actions of the leads. Not sure what the ordeal is lol
—That’s not true, there were backlash for goblin as well.https://www.straitstimes.com/lifestyle/entertainment/k-drama-goblin-is-very-popular-but-very-controversial-in-south-korea—Two…
—I read the article, like you said, it’s a completely different circumstance.
“But even this is actually debatable. They had a conversation, so they knew each other (sort of...). It is not like she drugged him, dragged him home and kissed him.“
—thats not a real, “I know you” kind of conversation. That’s stretching thin that they knew each other even with your caveat of “sort of...” —if she was to drug him and done other consequent actions, that would be more than just sexual harassment. An entire list of extra offenses can be thrown at her lol
“ The second is consent. What is consent? Signing a contract, giving verbal permission or (mis)reading social cues? Clearly KYJ felt special, because she said that no one has ever treated her like that before. A good lawyer can play the consent-card and the judge might even follow him in this reasoning. ” —“I feel like he liked me because he’s nice to me so I gave him a kiss because he is leading me on with his niceness although I met him three minutes prior” is not going to hold ground anywhere lol —that’s just your imagination that a judge would follow that reasoning.
“ If JCW clearly shouted that she must stop, ran away or pushed her away, then there is no consent. So this is a legal grey area.” —according to other users here, and I agree with their perspective is that he was stunned to the point of stupidity and didn’t know how to react, so he didn’t push her away. Regardless, they had no familiarity, and it was not expected.
“ Finally, it is also not clear whether it was sexual in nature. I think it was (especially in a conservative country such as Korea), but it is perfectly normal to kiss each other in Southern-Europe or the Middle East. "Sexual" is not a well-defined concept.” —she made suggestive comments following her kiss. If it is considered perfectly normal over, they still have consent.
“ Having said that, I am actually playing the devil's advocate over here. I think there is actually a case for sexual harassment, but the reason why I defend them is because I dislike the overly quick judgment of many people. Sexual harassment is a criminal offence. You need to have solid and unambigious proof to qualify someone as a sexual harasser. However, even judges have difficulties with these cases, so why use this word so easily? This makes me uncomfortable. People nowadays use big words like it is nothing:” —I gave you an article what is defined a sexual harassment. People getting criminalized for it or not doesn’t detract it from being a sexual harassment. From watching the scene, I think it’s crystal clear that her actions follow under that umbrella. —I understand that people can use certain big words lightly and it can be dangerous but in this scenario, it fits.
“ You see what I am trying to say? We are not the ones to draw the line of what a criminal offence is, it is the judge who decides. That is why we - the people - gave them the power to rule over these kind of situations. As normal citizens, we can only dislike an action or call an action inappropriate, but not accuse someone of a criminal offence without proof. We can however say that we THINK that it is sexual harassment.” —I see what you are saying but there’s flaws in that. Just because a judge deemed it something, doesn’t make it correct. Mr. A kills Mr. B. Mr. C & Mr. D sees the murder in front of them Judge: declares Mr. A is not a murderer despite strong evidence and testimony.
So would Mr. C and Mr. D only “think” Mr. A is a murderer just because judge says he’s not one?
If we are putting it in a drama perspective, we as a viewer have the evidence right in front of us. We are the judge. It’s clear that she committed a sexual offense. I don’t think, I know.
I’m really disheartened when I see some people online like in twitter glorifying that kissing scene. They squeal…
—thank you for being kinder with your words unlike the person above you. —I did watch the drama. —I admit I made a mistake with the candy inside the bag instead of cigarettes. Not everyone is going to catch every scene. —there were other inappropriate scenes in the drama like male lead friend sketching shady things. —the director lied when he promised to make the show family-friendly. I would not show this drama to my 10 year old cousin. —I’m still planning to check out at least a few more episodes due to my fondness of the leads. —I hope for character growth in both characters especially the FL. But so far, she’s really not a good character, even three years later.
I’m really disheartened when I see some people online like in twitter glorifying that kissing scene. They squeal…
—there is no need to attack me. —You made many assumptions —I didn’t focus on that scene where he gave them candy instead of cigarettes, so that’s my goof. Yes I remember him telling them to quit smoking. But that was when he gave them the bag before the audience seeing what’s inside the bag. Yes I made a mistake on not seeing what the content of the bag was. —No. You are wrong. That’s immortal and is sexual harassment. Period. —Just because I sinned in life, that doesn’t mean I can’t call out on other people behavior. —Sexual harassment is a real issue, not something to thread on lightly.
Woah people can be so forgiving bcz it's a drama..Wasn't it like sexual harassment? I m 27 myself and the thought…
I’m really disheartened when I see some people online like in twitter glorifying that kissing scene. They squeal at how cute the kiss is and how strong the FL character is for doing that, when she’s a scum character. Some people drop their morals because they are huge fans of the actors. I’m a fan too but I can’t wallpaper certain scenes in the drama with hearts and stars and glitter. That’s beneath me.
“ it was just one kiss and she was not even forced to do it.”
—he was forced into it.
—it’s offensive if you don’t take those things seriously.
