Haha, yes! I completely agree. Pacing, characters & suspense are what make the show! This is the exact argument I just made to a friend who dropped it & is now considering giving it another go. And omo omo omo, what you say about Doc! Jesus, best character EVER!!! So wickedly charismatic, it's insane! He makes fighting look so effortless! Even my bf seems to have developed a boy crush on him!Hahaa He saw 1 fight scene with Doc & decided he was in for the long haul! Now he's hooked!

I'm suppose to be working as well (& I'm supposing to be watching with bf), but urghhh! I can't wait to find out what happens next so I've been going it alone. I have more opportunity to work from home than BF & it's been hell waiting for him so I just don't!

As for stalking LSJ, girl, if I manage it don't you worry. I'll be getting lots of footage! That would be a life event I'd defo want to document! :)

Moreover, if you watched Shark until ep 17 before dropping (ok, I know this was largely due in part to your wife, Son Ye Jin, but still ...), you have to give Cruel City the same chance. Since you're easily bored you may end up dropping it again anyway, but I think it's worth you giving it a chance to lock you in with more than 1 or 2 eps. To judge a show as boring or bad after just 1 ep ain't right, Knight. Come on, now, bro! :)
You know Asian dramas take time to pick up the pace! And CC is better than most in this regard.

Dude, all I can say is give it another go. The story is very intricate & there's a new development at every corner. The story isn't perfect overall, but what I feel this series excels at is pace, something Asian dramas are generally not good at. So far I have not been able to stop watching. The lead character is also a very attractive character (for us girls, that would be sexually attractive haha!), but also attractive in the sense that he's smart as a whip. Not even the police can outwit him. He's a very likeable character, totally badass, complex and layered. This is the first time I've experienced my favourite chingu (that is, my bf) watch an Asian series from start to finish. We're meant to be watching together, but since I can work from home (he can't) I've been watching without him bcuz I literally can't wait until he gets home to watch the next ep. Give it another chance!

Let me know again why you decided to drop it? That way I can best give you my opinion.

But another thing, if you're going to resume it anyway whether I give the green light or not, why is my opinion even necessary? :)

What a very cryptic thing to say! Now I know for sure Doc's gonna be dead! Sigh ...

I know it's coming, but damn I can't reconcile myself to the thought. I do NOT like when characters I invest so much in die, regardless of how necessary their deaths may seem to the plot! lol

Will come back and discuss later. I have 4 eps to go. I should be working, but I can't stop watching! At a time like this it's not bad running your own gig! :)

ETA: My Ahjussi Central, yes! I couldn't go another day without looking at Lee Seo-jin's sexy body so I decided to put him up! OMG this guy is really driving me crazy! hehe

Rosie, loved your review of The Berlin File! I would have watched this movie for Ha Jeong Woo alone, but it also reminded me of the Jason Bourne films so that made me want to see it even more. Glad to hear it lived up to expectation! Whereabouts did you watch it? So far I have not seen it on any streaming sites.

Also see that you have the amazing Doctor's Son as your profile pic. Damn, I love that guy in CC, which I'm watching now! Great, action packed drama. The story is a little crazy, but I'm loving it anyway. If it had just a tad bit more romance it would have been perfect! But it's great nonetheless. Only thing I'm fearing now is that one or more of the characters I love are going to be killed off. Isn't that always the case in dramas/films like these?

How you're well, unnie! :)

Hehe, thx, chingu! :)
Thought it's about time to introduce a lil testosterone to my profile. I swear to God, Lee Seo-jin is so damn sexy, it's criminal. I love his abs, omo ... and that 'come hither' look he has in his eyes. Man, I'm so gonna stalk this man when I go to Soeul! LOL I work in film so I might be able to meet him some way, somehow. OMG if that happens I swear I'd just faint dead away! LOL I'm crazy. Good thing, BF isn't on MDL to see me going ape sh-- over another dude! hehehe

As for CC, yeah, loving it, but I think the story is a little crazy! I mean so much resources wasted to track a man that's actually one of them while the real baddies have a field day. Kinda disappointing, tbh. But, Doc is just ... wow! I love the guy. Like you, I wish there were more scenes with him & Soo Min. More tender, loving scenes! And Hyung Min is distracting with his hot body!

hehe Thanks Lumi. Glad to have provided you & mom with some entertainment & a word of caution about LYATT! Omo, as might have been apparent in my review I almost had a coronary watching that godawful show! Normally when I don't like a show I'll leave it up to the reader to decide for themselves whether to watch or not, afterall everyone has different tastes, right? But, in the case of LYATT I saw it as my civic duty to warn people off. My conscience wouldn't allow me to say 'decide for yourself', I just had to come straight out & say 'do yourself a favour & SKIP THIS SH--!!!'. I'm glad at least 1 person listened! :-)

As for OD, what a show! WHAT A SHOW. Now that's how it's done! Love both Sæ & Kai. They're a very good match. Tortured heroines don't normally win me over as fast as their male counterparts, but I felt such deep sympathy for Sæ. And Kai ... sigh. Dream guy!

Thx for the hugs! Sending them right back at you, my chingu friend! :)

By the way, I don't think I can add anything more to what you've already said so eloquently re Itazura Na Kiss. When I first heard about this show I read the synopsis and the reviews and all I could think to myself was what's so fun about a little girl throwing herself at some guy who treats her with indifference & contempt? A guy who in the future will likely abuse & cheat on her because he loves her way less than she loves him? Ugh. I can't watch shows like that. They mess up the escapism effect. Give me a show like Lovers any day! Granted, I'm not saying that's a perfect relationship either. But at least the characters are adults who know what they're getting themselves into. Anyway, I guess this is one of those cases when we have to say to each their own & leave it at that.

Well, I've only seen him at length in Smile, You, but having seen him in the first 2 eps of CC I almost didn't recognize him at first! He looks totally different from the wholesome, sweet character he is in SY! I think it's fair enough to say that he is indeed quite talented if he's able to transform so completely from one show to the next. Can't wait to see more of him in Cruel City!

I'm glad you said that, that you like more mature themes bcuz so do I. May I recommend you try Lovers. It's an older drama from 2006, but it isn't dated in any way. It's amazing, my favourite k-drama ever! A wonderful, mature crime/romance drama, it features one of the sexiest heroes I've ever had the pleasure to watch! Check out my review of it & see if it's something for you! :)

Smile, You is a funny, light hearted family drama, usually just what I need to relax and destress. But I've only seen 8/45 eps so I'm not 100% invested in the characters yet. A few weeks ago I saw Lovers & absolutely loved it. Since then I've been wanting to watch something edgier & grittier. That's why I started Cruel City. I watched the 1st 2 eps & loved what I saw! And now my boyfriend is also interested in watching with me. He usually NEVER interested in anything I watch, but I won him over with the amazing fight scenes featured in the show.

Interestingly the male lead in Smile, You is also one of the male leads in Cruel City & the characters couldn't have been more different! It's amazing how he's totally transformed in each show.

I've never heard of Crime Squad. How is that for you so far? IHYV seems to have garnered a lot of hype, but I'm not interested in watching it.

Awesome! Trying not to have high expectations, but gotta admit I'm looking forward to the show. I hope I won't be disappointed. I saw the first 2 eps a few weeks ago while it was still airing & I was pretty impressed. I loved the atmosphere, the acting and the fight scenes were very well choreographed. Doctor's Son really blew me away with his suave intensity. I can't believe this is the same wholesome kid I'm watching in Smile, You! And Hyung Min, good grief it should be illegal for one man to be that HOT! LOL

So yes, there seems to be a lot of incentive to watch this show! :)

What are you watching now then? Are there any particular genres that you like more than others?

Morning, Edinaa, yes I'm fine thank you! How are you? It's been a minute since we last caught up. What have you been up? Watching anything good these days?

I'm about to start back up with Cruel City, but I'm also well on my way with Smile, You. I like the drama (SY), but I'm not in the mood for a family drama right now so that's why I'm also watching CC.

Hope you're doing well, Chingu! :)

Hello Reise, just had to stop by and say I love your review of Cruel City. I'm about to start back up with it now (after watching the first 2 eps) & I'm exciting about what's in store for me. I love your reviews in general, always so eloquently written. Cheers :)

Ritasan, my mom told me long ago when I started liking boys: never love a man more than he loves you and or more than you love yourself!

I shall not be watching Itazura Na Kiss anytime soon, thx in part to you. Was never planning to watch it anyway (bcuz I don't do high school stuff), but now I feel even more confident in my choice.

When I first came on MDL someone rec'ed me Playful Kiss & I watched the 1st ep and decided it was not for me. Then months later a trusted friend suggested I watch the Taiwanese version - as it is, to her, the better of the 2. Well, I watched the 1st ep of that & couldn't continue. The friend tells me to keep watching bcuz apparently the sequel is even better. I doubt it, but I'm too nice to say NO.

Ironically, your review reminded me of my review of Loving You A Thousand Times, which was just as scathing for pretty much the same reasons. #smdh

Oh by the way, to answer your question about Kim Sam Soon. Well, I can't really put my finger on it. I just read the reviews and listened in on some conversations & the impression of it I got didn't seem persuasive enough for me to watch it. I thought the female lead would annoy the daylights out of me so I decided to pass. Moreover, I'm tired of all the hoopla around ow/ym dramas. I prefer when both the actors and characters are around the same age, give or take a couple of yrs.

Haha, I know right! When I saw ep 1 & 2 I had the same reaction! It didn't look or feel like your typical run of the mill Korean series at all. I loved the action & the characters. Hyung Min is smacking hot & Doctor's Son, omo, what a smooth, cool operator! Can't believe he's the same wholesome kid I've been watching in Smile, You!
I'm definitely going to continue watching today even though work has picked up again after the holidays & I have a lot to do!
