Thanks for the recs. I have both Chilling Romance and My Rainy Days on my PTW list, but haven't gotten round to them yet. It's not my # 1 preference when it comes to sub-genres, but there are times when I do seek out romcoms, mostly when I've had a bad day & I need something to make me laugh. Usually they don't make me laugh, but like you said they're fodder for a good eye roll. So I guess they do serve a purpose. :-)
Whenever you get the chance check out those 2 flicks I rec'ed & let me know if they're along the lines of what you like. As I get to know your taste I can recommend more. I discover new flicks almost every week. Not all of them will be happy ending, but most tend to have a good message for viewers to ponder.

Oh I'm a hopeless romantic too, but I prefer a more serious type of romance. I noticed you've seen Always ... LOVE romances like that. But the romcoms with the bad comedy is what I tend to avoid, case in point Unstoppable Marriage, The Relation of Mind & Face, Seducing Mr. Perfect etc. If I may, let me suggest to you the movie 3-Iron. Beautiful film, quite romantic. Also Japanese Happily Ever After is oddly romantic despite the characters existing in a very dark world. Hope you'll check these out. Arite, I'm gonna stop bothering you for today. Have a good one! :-)

No, I don't watch mangas or animes at all. Don't have the time. And not that into cartoons at my age really. :) You have a point about knowing why the characters behave the way they do, later on when I watch TKA. Arite, I guess I'm 'stuck' with It Started with a Kiss then. :-)
Are you watching any good movies? What genres do you prefer? I prefer most genres, but I've been in a romance (NOT rom-coms) funk for months now. It's the most romance related stuff I've ever watched in my life. I guess it's because it's so difficult to find good romantic drama films with happy ending in Asian cinema. So far I've only found a couple. Literally, a couple, as in 2. All the others I've seen are tragedies or about cheating husbands, and those never end well even if no one dies. No joy.

Actually you know what I have been thinking of skipping It Started with a Kiss & hopping right over to They Kiss Again. I really don't like high school dramas and the only reason why I even added It Started With a Kiss to my list was because everyone keeps telling me its a classic & every respectable drama addict should watch it, if only as battle scar. LOL! So I added it, but when I read the synopsis of They Kiss Again it sounded a lot more interesting & mature, and thus more to my taste. What's your assessment? Would you recommend skipping it & starting TKA?
Devil beside You feels like I'm watching a manga. The overacting is crazy! lol

I'm watching Devil Beside You and I think your description saying it feels like you jumped into a manga is pretty spot on.

I'm trying to watch Taiwanese drama, Devil Beside You, but I can only take it in small doses. That drama is drama with a capital D. The characters do nothing that makes sense and the lead female is ... how to describe her? A mite ... that grates a little on the nerves.
I think I'm going to cheat and start Smile, You even though I promised myself I'd wait until I finish Devil & It Started with a Kiss.
Thanks for the compliment re my review. :)

Sorry for the late reply! Work's been kicking my ass the last days. Anyway, interesting system you have going there on your lists! :-)
I stalked your profile and noticed your convo with Akumi re 18 vs. 29. I COMPLETELY agree with the gripes you had with that show! I watched it very early in my drama watching career -- I think it was the 2nd or 3rd drama I ever watched. Needless to say, if I had the knowledge & experience I have now re k-dramas I wouldn't have wasted my time. Check out my review to get my take on it. It's pretty similar to yours.
We already share A LOT of opinions on everything from kissing to the types of dramas we like so I too am looking forward to chatting with you. Padam Padam was my first K-drama and I loved it, though with a very heavy heart (I'm sure you know why). What are you watching right now?

The plot sounds a lot like Intimate Lover.

Thanks for accepting. I see we have a few dramas and movies in common. Tell me, why are some items on your completed list rated 0? Is it that you forgot to put in a rating or is it because you really hated those shows? There are quite a few zeros so I'm thinking that can't be a coincidence. Haha :)

LOL, you can't make such a statement and NOT tell me the name of the drama. Are you talking about Stars Falling from the Sky ... or something like that? Why do the Japanese have such a pessimistic view on life? They seem to have something against romance. I'm only half joking! :)

Tell me about it, Allyson! :-)
It's only been 12 years since I was 18 so I remember all too well my irrational obsession with a host of male celebrities. :)
I also want to say that I grew to love Song Shi-won of Reply 1997. She's one of my favourite heroines. Her crazy, stalkerific fangirl habit is out of control, but she's spunky, loyal and looks like a REAL woman, not some plastic barbie doll like most other female leads in dramaland. In 2012 she had obviously grown into a more mature, ambitious & reflected woman than she was in 1997! Furthermore, who of us here was on our best behaviour at 18? :)
Let me present another side to this discussion. While I know full well the world is filled with smart, capable women, it doesn't bother me to see these type of female leads portrayed in dramaland. In fact I find it rather refreshing. Why? Bcuz these dramas aren't forced to follow a PC agenda. They dare to show human beings as we are: not always well put together & not always the sharpest knife in the drawer. Western dramas have a tendency to bastardize men as idiots, but nobody complains about that. Now don't get me wrong I'm not saying there's a problem with wanting to see smart women on TV. All I'm saying is that not every woman in the world is a brainiac. We have smart women & dumb women likewise smart men & dumb men. We see idiots of both genders in dramaland so I don't see this as sexist. There are a lot of sexism in dramaland, but to me this is the least of it.
