Seriously putting rollers in a man's hair a la Lee Min Ho in Boys Before Flower should be a crime. That hairstylist…
"I must disagree with you...mostly producers go for sure kill if adapted original is very popular and has wide fanbase."
Feel free to disagree, Rain, but since this is what I do for a living I feel pretty safe in saying you're wrong.
Like I said you try to stick as closely as possible to the original, but again not at any cost.
Look at all those superhero movies & how many creative liberties are taken; some for commercial reasons, some for artistic reasons. The fans whined, but that didn't keep any butts off seats. Most of 'em go on to make gazillions at US & international box offices.
In many cases a fanbase alone won't sell tickets or result in high ratings unless it's seriously HUGE. Thus, you have to create & package the product in such a way that appeals to BOTH the fanbase AND non-fans (potential new fans/wom fans). The best eg. the Game of Thrones series. It has had an amazing run. The fans made S1 a hit, old & new fans made S2 a megahit, so much so the network renewed the show for s3 after only 2 eps of S2 was aired.
Not many people outside the core fanbase knew or cared about GoT. Now GRRM has locked in millions of new fans for his books bcuz of the success of the show. Of course this success is not a result of changing something as trivial as a character's hair, but there were MANY changes, esp character changes, from the books & many omissions for practical reasons.
Aesthetic standards are pretty simple. Is the actor/actress gorgeous from head to toe? Yes, then they'll do! Sometimes they don't even have to know how to act. The more I watch Asian cinema the more I experience this as true.
You have fangirl passion about the adaptations of your favs so your reaction is understandable. From a pure business pov that hair ain't cuttin' it! ;p
Seriously putting rollers in a man's hair a la Lee Min Ho in Boys Before Flower should be a crime. That hairstylist…
I'd also like to add that while fans of a certain adaptation may want everything adapted exactly as it is in the original work, producers are thinking about (or should be thinking about) what will have a broad appeal beyond the core fanbase. And that's the heart of my beef with the hairstyle! hehehe
For a person like me, who is neither a fan of the manga nor this genre, putting such a lame hairstyle on your lead character is just giving me one more reason not to watch your show.
It's bad business. That's why the movie industry is populated with pretty things ... no one pays to go see ugly.
Seriously putting rollers in a man's hair a la Lee Min Ho in Boys Before Flower should be a crime. That hairstylist…
Ugh ... rain, no! Have to disagree with you on this one. That's not how the film business work as far as I know. While it's every producer/director's aim to see adaptations as closely as possible to the original works, it's not to be done at any cost! And certainly not if certain aspects of the adaptation will cause an important character to be butt of jokes & snarky comments when you want to inspire the opposite reaction in an audience.
That's why adaptations are adjusted all the time to meet certain aesthetic criteria. They could've left his hair alone without those horrible looking curls, even if it's a supposed trademark. I'm sure very few fans of the show & or the original manga would have complained if they had.
As for Pippi Longstockings, you're comparing apples & oranges. Her hair colour & funny pigtails are the cutest ever, those bloody curls make LMH look like a drag queen! :)
If I was producing this show, there's no way I'd authorize that hairstyle. Sorry.
This is one of the most weirdly pedophilic dramas I have ever seen. First off, if the father's spirit is trapped…
You shouldn't be tagging me. Tag Panda-san, it was she who made the comment & she who's watching the show. I personally have no interest in seeing this series. I was just responding to what Panda-san said about the weird nature of the show! :)

Edinaa, Happy Christmas & Merry New Year. In 2014 may you have good health and happiness! :)
Seriously putting rollers in a man's hair a la Lee Min Ho in Boys Before Flower should be a crime. That hairstylist should never work again!
The bowl hairstyle in Can You Hear My Heart is absolutely one of the WORSE, ever! As if I didn't have enough reasons to hate that drama! :/ (apologies to the fans)
I think bad do ups are a staple in dramaland, esp when it comes to the guys. Lee Junki's flip (more like flop) hairstyle - where a wad of hair covers half his forehead - in the last episode of Time Between Dog & Wolf comes to mind.
They also have a tendency to ruin the beautiful manes of female leads as per the example given of Can We Get the Married. Another drama in which they committed a similar crime is My Precious You ... and many others that I've deliberately chosen to forget!

Merry Christmas to you, Mary Katherine, and all the best for the New Year! :)
I haven't seen Shut Up Flower Boy Band. Somehow I got the impression it wouldn't be to my taste since it's about a boy band, BOY being the operative word. I don't care for youth dramas as I figure it would have all the childishness & frozen fish kisses as most dramas of this kind. But are you saying it doesn't? Does Kim Woo Bin have a lead role here? I might look into it since I do like music & bromance.
What are you watching these days, if anything? I've completed My Precious You & I'm tempted to start Nine: Nine Times Travel, but I can't because I need to finish up all the work I neglected in favour of marathoning MPY. Sigh ... I wish someone would just pay me to watch dramas & be done with it already! :p
Hey I just noticed that you haven't rated any of the entries on your Completed list. Why is that?
